Impressive Louis XV mahogany armoire or wardrobe. This large piece has tons of storage space behind its three doors. Mirrors with bevelled edges and ornately carved wooden panels give this piece an amazing decorative look. A gracefully curved top is capped by an intricately carved finial. Skirted fronts and short cabriole legs lift it off the ground and keep the armoire from feeling heavy despite its size. This piece can be dismantled for moving. Overall. The armoire is in good condition. The two side mirrors have some noticable silver loss. Example pictured. There are also some small dents and dings to the wood. Magnificent Antique Parisian Louis XVI Belle Epoch Era Armoire* to start a new paragraph use- Recently imported from France is this magnificent antique Parisian armoire. This armoire is in very good condition. It retains both its original finish and bronze ormolu hardware. The armoire is very structurally sound. It is made out of a beautiful satinwood. This armoire is made by a comparable high end cabinet maker of the era. It is also of the same period and quality as the Louis XVI Belle Epoch bed we have on-line. This imposing Louis Philippe Armoire is crafted in solid oak. The Armoire comes completely flat and can be assembled in about 20 minutes. The armoire stands on ogee scroll feet and a cut out plinth. To the inside there are 3 shelves. One with a full width drawer and one having 3 drawers below it. The middle drawer has a lock but no key so I can put a button knob on this one if required. All this is enclosed with a pair of panel doors complete with decorative carving and molding. The left hand door is held shut with a simple sprung catch. While the right hand door closes on to it and is held shut with original working lock and key. LOUIS XV - STYLE FRENCH ARMOIRE - 1890-1910 Found by J Peterman
I wonder what wonderful tales it could tell us if only. Where its life began. We cannot say for certain, however, this armoire was said to have come from France before finding it's way to the U.S. and being drafted into service by the legendary retailer, Peterman, as a display cabinet. When we first saw it, it had rather indecorously been filled with piles of Peterman clothing in the midst of a shopping frenzy when they closed their stores years ago. We rescued it and brought it home to become a part of our eclectic collection of furnishings. It has taken a few re-locations in its stead since, but, alas, we're streamlining and must pass it one to someone else who will add new pages to it's story. We"placed" its twin a couple of months ago and the owner was so delighted that she sent us pictures of it in its new home! ... moreIts crown bears the wonderful carving that is the hallmark of the Louis XV design. As do the drawer front and front legs. It appears to be crafted of walnut and shines beautifully with a little polish. It has no key however the lock mechanism is intact and functional. While it does evidence the wear and tear of age, as do all of us that have experienced life to the fullest, it is still a lovely addition to any room and still quite capable of doing it's job of holding other treasures. It has mountings for a shelves(the latter not included as it wasn't when we bought it. There are some areas of wear on the mirrors(see photo) but these neither detract nor interfere with the mirrors' function, in fact, depending upon one's age, this can be an advantage. The top is completely closed and serves as a great place for display things. hats, florals, etc. Previous owner added supports to crown that are not visible unless you are looking down on the piece from above. I do believe that it is original. Measurements are 96" Tall 50" wide 19 inches deep. There is a drawer at the bottom and three shelves. It is sturdy. I see no structural defects. There is some fading and the normal wear you would expect from a piece this old. The mirror glass is the original My beloved Great Aunt Ruth passed at 102. Aunt Ruth lived each year to the fullest! Offered here is a gorgeous Large Antique Louis XV Style Walnut Armoire(French) circa 1880-1910. This piece is in very nice condition. It features beautifully carved provencal style flowers with basket at center. With a serpentine shaped apron raised on cabriole legs and original hardware. It features 1 shelf, but more could be added and the original key. The only flaws to mention is a split in the floor of the piece that does not affect the armoire structurally(see picture) and repair to repair to back legs. This piece is a great decorator piece! This is a beautiful Walnut Armoire. Louis XV era, circa 1800-1899. It has a single beveled mirror door and has intricate carving on the top and on the bottom drawer. The inside has 5 shelfs measuring 3' x 13" and an inside lockable drawer measuring 27 1/2" x 19 1/2" 4" deep. The inside of the armoire is lined with birdseye maple. The armoire measures 95" to the top of the filigree. And is 40" wide. The beveled mirror measures 25 7/8" wide and is 57 5/8" high. The door is also lockable. Below the door/mirror is another drawer measuring 31 3/4" x 14" x 3 5/8" deep. It is in excellent original condition. It comes apart in 4 sections for easy shipping. A very fine antique. Circa 1900- 1940, French Louis XV style display armoire. It can be broken down for shipment: cornice, complete framed paneled back, both sides, two doors, and footed base with drawers. The case is of solid mahogany; the back boards, four shelves, the side interiors, of quartersawn oak. The bottom drawer has an oak interior also. The case surface is stripped mahogany veneers, and ormolu brass applied scroll with seashells mornaments. The doors have a simple wavy brass grill. There is an oak panel that needs to be inserted back into the framing of the back- can be done from above when armoire is reassembled, see photo. The armoire measures 8'2" 98" tall by 4'6" 54" wide 19" deep, the shelves 14" deep. Excellent condition: solid construction, includes the vertical bar lock and key. This is a beautiful Louis XIV Walnut French armoire. It stands tall and proud and is an impressive piece with rich texture to the wood finish. The motif looks like an eye at the top and an eye on the bottom- quite unusual! The armoire is 24" deep. 54" 4'5" wide, 91" 7'7" tall. We are unsure of the weight but estimate at around 175lbs.
