Kahn& Cie in Paris. Kahn was a leading cabinet maker and bronzier who worked in the last quarter of the nineteenth century, according to Sotheby's. The pediment has neoclassical guilloche, reed and tie, and foliate motifs. The frieze and side panels feature patera, rosettes, and egg and dart motifs. American Federal Cupboard or Cabinet. Southern States, Probably Kentucky or Tennessee Early 19th Century c. 1820-40 Item# 130101QIP27 This is a striking piece in every regard. First and foremost. The sheer perfection found in the tight minimalistic landscape of this undistracted and restrained surface is unrivaled. Everything about the form is harmonious, the crown being distinctly angular and sharp, deep enough to cast a formidable shadow over the case while still remaining a small part of the form as a whole. The large case is cleanly divided into six parts by a craftsman clearly averse to using graduation in any portion of the piece. Using deeply chamfered panels set into rabbets in the through-tenon-mortise joined door frames, these opening easily over replaced brass hinges. Inside is a spacious shelved interior, again spaced at equal ... moreintervals with a large space for the bottommost shelf, avoiding the use of graduation. The effect is attractive, resulting in a stoic aesthetic so commonly associated with works of those states. On both left side doors. A tiny wooden catch is affixed to the inside of the door using a hand forged screw, allowing each of the doors to be locked shut; the opposite door has a small wooden knob external and a forged iron lock interior(absent on the lower door) the wooden knobs are likely purchased from a different shop or imported, as they appear to be of black walnut and the work of a skilled turner. They are, however, original to the piece and remain affixed with their original screws. The case is plain and devoid of embellishment. The sides single solid planks that stretch from the crest to the toe, the backboards vertically nailed in tight clean rows along both edges and the bottom. The crest is a separate piece screwed to the top of the case at equal intervals in deep wells. It is very difficult to make a well supported attribution to Tennessee; however, we feel fairly confident this piece originated in either Kentucky or Tennessee. As this style dome in Birdseye Maple came almost exclusively from there during this period. I am only selling this as it is too large for my small Victorian home. And I have too much floor settling in my home to fully accommodate its functionality, unfortunately. This gorgeous armoire has beveled original glass mirrored double doors that lock with the original key. Everything is original-nothing is reproduction or replacement. A very rare find and nearly impossible to find this exceptional quality and condition in Birdseye Maple! This piece is very large and will need a large room with tall ceilings in order to accommodate! Assembled with meticulous pegged construction. Beautiful ... morebirdseye textures and floral carvings; inside are 3 adjustable shelves with many variations available with the built in bracket racks. This is a beautiful antique Irish linen cabinet thoughtfully reconfigured for modern use as office or media armoire. With its doors closed it is stunning- the centerpiece of any room. Inside is generous amounts of space- enough to hold an office's worth of electronics. Files, and supplies. The details: Biparting doors mounted on continuous hinges allow the doors of the middle and upper compartments to fold back and slide into the armoire. There are four holes in the upper part and two holes in the lower part of the armoire to allow electronics wiring to pass through to the back to be plugged into outlets. These openings are each about 1 inch in diameter. The uppermost area has notches for shelving(see photo) and there are two sturdy removable shelves. Renaissance Oak Antique 1870 French Armoire Cabinet. Carved Angels, Lions& Frui. A spectacular Renaissance style armoire or cabinet from France was hand carved with deeply sculpted angels. Lion heads and cornucopias of fruit and flowers. This antique furniture from about 1870 is solid fine grained oak with an original finish that is very well preserved. With just enough wear at the edges for patina. Waxed and buffed, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its warm luster. Joints have carved wooden pegs. The interior is 21 1/2" deep and is fitted with a shelf that adjusts on wooden supports. More shelves or a closet pole could be added if desired. Below are two large drawers.
