And I have too much floor settling in my home to fully accommodate its functionality, unfortuately. This gorgeous armoire has beveled original glass mirrored double doors that lock with the original key. Everything is original-nothing is reproduction or replacement. A very rare find and nearly impossible to find this exceptional quality and condition in Birdseye Maple! This piece is very large and will need a large room with tall ceilings in order to accommodate! Assembled with meticulous pegged construction. Beautiful birdseye textures and floral carvings; inside are 3 adjustable shelves with many variations available with the built in bracket racks. An incredible accomplishment. The foundry work executed in this piece is above reproach- each gilt bronze mount is hand chased to the highest quality, mercury gilded and of outstanding detail. An angular and commanding work, the Armoire is surmounted by a triangular crest that is removable from the body with two dowels on either side- this is flanked by a pair of carved mahogany(replaced) finials. Beneath the projecting crown molding, an incredible gilt bronze mount of an angel riding through ocean waves in a cornucopia pulled along by swans while leaving behind a trail of shells is simply stunning. Lifting off of large steel screws inside of the armoire to allow the door to be lifted from it's hinges for easier transportation. The original finish is very well preserved with warm patina and a few mars and scratches for antique character. Wrought hardware is original. The top and base are detachable for easier moving. Original brass fittings include a closet pole and hooks. The interior was later upholstered and has a couple of tears, see photos. Interior depth is 20 1/2" and the large lower drawer has hand cut dovetail joinery. Measurements are 41" wide. 26" deep and 7' 1 1/2" tall. The old finish is in very fine condition and has warm antique patina. Waxed and buffed so all that is needed to maintain its glow is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. The 19 1/2" deep interior is empty and could be fitted with shelves or a closet pole as desired. Locks and keys work. Brass keyhole escutcheons are original on this historic European furniture. Norwegian Immigrant Hand Carved 1880 Antique Pine Armoire. Item# B-19692. Hand crafted in Wisconsin by a Norwegian immigrant about 1880. This wonderfully made country pine armoire is picturesque. Entirely hand carved with rustic folk motifs. Every surface is charmingly irregular. The finish is in excellent condition, preserving traces of old paint, see photos. Door panels are raised and hand chamfered. The interior is 16" deep and has carved wooden clothes hooks at the top. It could be fitted with a closet pole or shelves as desired.
