Old ca 1950's Randahl Sterling Silver 12in Heavy Presentation Platter, Excellent
This item is a beautiful heavy old ca. 1950 Randahl Sterling Silver 12in presentation platter. Inscribed on the front with what appears to be two initials(wedding gift, perhaps) and on the back with the date February 6, 1951, and with the platter in excellent overall slightly used condition. Platter has some surface scratches, and also one slightly deeper scratch along the border edge, but there are no really serious flaws. Platter was too heavy to weigh on our jewelry scale, so used our postal scale, where it weighed in at one pound, 5.3 oucnes, and that converts to 19.41 troy ounces. I calculate the silver value alone to be $554.79, based on today closing silver value(1/10/2013) and silver was up today, as well. In researching Randahl Silver using on-line sources, we have learned that the company was started in the early 1900's by Swedish ... moresilversmith Julius O. Randahl, and located in various Chicago area locations until 1965 when the business was sold to Reed& Barton. Early Randahl holloware pieces are very highly valued, as the firms merchandise was hand made by highly skilled craftsmen, but this platter was likely not from that era, as best we can determine. Regardless, it should carry a value considerably above the scrap silver value, or so we think. We had no problem locating a similar platter valued at a couple of thousand at an recent Eastern auction, but we will list far below that and include a Buy-It-Now. See images for more details. Long handled spoon, and would be suitable for any general serving purpose. The terminal of the handle is engraved with a crest of a griffin. The juncture of the handle to the bowl is monogrammed with'C' above'I M' The silver of the handle is very thick, and this is overall a very well-constructed piece. This piece is hallmarked on the stem with crowned harp for the city of Dublin. The Irish sterling standard mark, the date letter G for 1779 and the maker's mark for Michael Keating. Huge MUSEUM QUALiTY 1880s AUSTRiAN STERLiNG SiLVER REPOUSSE PLATTER TRAY 19x12x3
~ HOWDY! PLEASE READ the WHOLE AD& THANKS for L@KING. Shown is a wonderful last quarter of the 19th Century Repousse. Highly engraved and blown out 2 handle platter or tray from old AUSTRIA/ HUNGRY with the city mark of P for PEST as in BUDA PEST. AUSTRO-HUNGRY. This is also marked with the number 3 inside the DIANA floral stamp which means this is made from solid 800/ 1000 silver. This hallmark was used with the city code from 1872 thru 1922. But based on the decoration we would date this to the 1880's. This is highly detailed and expertly work and its marked by the maker but we cannot make it out. The maker's mark appears to be set in a TRIANGLE with some letters which I cannot make out but think the top letter is the letter A. The photos do not do this justice as we are having a hard time showing you how high the relief work ... moreis. The fruit this is decorated with comes out up to 3/4" of an inch. We have NEVER had such a high relief piece. The work is just amazing. This has some exotic fruits and vegetables which we think are grapes, pomegranate, pineapples, berries, cherries, tomatoes, garlic bulbs and a few others we cannot identify. The silversmith added ridges and beading for added beauty and strength. This has 2 applied handles. The top of the handles look like DRAGON HEADS, typical for the country. These heads attached to a neck that splits off and anchor to the underside and are attached with leaves. This is simply a WONDERFUL PIECE of ART in SILVER. This is HUGE as its about 19" long, 12" wide, and to the top of the platter's edge 2.25"high. The handles are even higher being about 3.25" high. On our postal scale it is about 940 grams or 33 ounces. So the silver scrap value is in the upper hundreds but the value here is in the age and exquisite rare workmanship in this. This is a beautiful piece in excellent condition but we do think there was probably a minor repair to one handle as the solder marks are not as well done as it is on one side. This is a fine detail e

Up for auction is an very rare antique Crichton sterling silver claw-footed platter. Made in England in 1929. I am selling this for a family member who inherited this from my mother's estate, and now has given me permission to sell it for her via an Ebay auction We would both like to see this very rare, special and valuable piece go to a new home where it will be appreciated by a true collector. DIMENSIONS: The plate is approximately 10 inches wide and about 1 inches tall due to the claw feet. It is very heavy. I weighed this plate and it came out to approx. 1.4 pounds. Which is approx. 635 grams or 22.4 ounces. HISTORY AND MARKINGS: I believe the plate to have been my great grandmother's plate. It has some decorative scrollwork and engravings of what looks to be"EL" monogrammed on the serving surface. I have included this ... morein the pictures and also the important maker's hallmarks on the underside of the plate for your reference. The hallmarks state"Crichton Ltd. Made in England" and the makers hallmarks state"LAC" Then a"O" then a lion, and then what looks like a lion's or leopard's face. I encourage you to do your own research. But according to my own research of leading antique silver hallmark sites on the internet, I have found this to be a British sterling silver(925) piece based on the proof marks. First, I found the"LAC" and other marks correlate to the word famous silversmith/manufacturer Lionel Alfred Crichton, of Crichton Brothers/Crichton& Company in London England. Lionel Alfred Crichton's pieces are found from the late 1890's(when he was registered as a silversmith) through the earlier 1930's as far as I can tell. I believe this piece to have been crafted by him in 1929 due to the gothic script"O" proof mark which I understand to be a London hallmark for that particular year. HI! PLEASE READ the WHOLE AD& THANKS for L@KING. Please note only* 1* PIECE is listed here in the above GALLERY PHOTO. NOT BOTH. The smaller waiter's tray is listed in a sperate auction. Shown is a wonderful VERY RARE serving platter or tray that was made in FRANCE, marked with the sign of a boar's head. As early as 1796 and/ or up to 1819. The date hallmark is a bit hard to make out, hence the date range. This measures about 13.75" long x 9.25" x 1.2" and its ABOUT 700 grams on our postal scale which IS NOT a JEWELER'S SCALE so give or take a few grams. The hallmark is a vertical mark with something on the top. Perhaps a letter or a symbol, below that is the letter O and then the letter A. There also a few marks on the right side but they are hard to make out. On the top side of this is the French discharge ... moremark which is an oval with a face on it. There are 3 letters F B D stamped on the underside rim. This is very thick& heavy. This is well over 22 troy ozs. This is too beautiful and rare to scrap or melt as this is a rare piece of fine handmade French Silver from the 18th Century. From the top the side slopes gently down towards the center. I believe the edge is Chippendale in style. There is a CREST/ COAT of ARMS in the center and its expertly engraved. We have not been able to identify this. Some suggested this might be a marriage piece as there might be 2 small crest in the middle. To briefly describe the crest on the top is a crown. On the left and right are dogs. Perhaps greyhounds, with collars looking to the left and right. In the center are 2 shields. The left side has another dog standing on two legs. The right side has a bird/ eagle standing under a double pyrmid. These are flanked by stars and a cresent moon at the point. If anybody knows any of these marks please let us know. Thanks. Anchor and an old English G which is found on Gorham silver, STERLING A4439, and the symbol for a key is on the left side. An anchor on sterling silver indicates it was assayed in Birmingham, England. Silver has been assayed in Birmingham since 1773. I think that the letter A in front of the numbers indicates the year 1900. The key should indicate the year 1906. I really worked hard on trying to identify the symbols and had fun doing it.
