This piece dates to 1883. The bowl is done in a lobed oval form and is raised on a pedestal base. The rim and base feature beautifully done open pierced work. The interior of the bowl is nicely hand-chased with very stylized designs of flowering trees. The very center of the bowl is an oval cartouche surrounded by a beaded border. Perfect for a monogram or presentation. This piece is in excellent overall condition. There are no splits. No breaks, no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs. This item and several other pieces I will be listing are from the estate of a 77 year old man who actually inherited these pieces from his mother. She started collecting after her marriage in 1917. My knowledge on these items is limited but I have attempted to research to learn as much as possible to give you an accurate description to the best of my ability. This is an absolutely gorgeous sterling silver sweet meats(or CANDY) basket/bowl. The maker is Henry Wilkinson made in Sheffield. I believe the fabulous cut out design on all sides to be representative of the DECO period.but could find no definitive answer The bowl shape is square with canted corners. A beautiful intricate border of spiked leaves around rim& around bottom of pedestal ... morebase. On each side there are cut out scroll design tab handles. This piece has a removeable frosted& clear glass insert bowl. The inside of this bowl is clear, while the exterior is frosted. It is an exact fit to silver bowl. Size. bowl measures 6 1/2" from outside handle to handle( 4 3/4" long(OPENING) not including handles) x 3" high x 3 1/2" across. The glass bowl is obviously just a bit smaller to fit in. Makers mark. on one side at top of bowl is the makers mark.4 engraved boxes.first the initials"HW" Also a crown. Lion& the letter"q" The design of each mark is in a square shape with a pointed bottom. Photo is included of these markings. I tried to do extensive research on this piece and this is the info I finally found. I have included many photos of piece but. This small bowl measures 6 inches across and about 1 3/8 inches high. The bowl measures 2 7/8 inch across the bottom. The bowl comes with its brown felt storage bag marked Rank& Motteram Co.
