This is a vintage c.1980 Holton H179 double Fernch Horn from a local estate. It features brightly polished nickel plated finish. And rotary valves. No mouthpiece. Conditon: As-found/ untested, and not played in many years. All valve's strings are present, and all valves and slides move freely. Expected signs of wear and handling, with some small dings, wiggles/ irregularities to extreemly thin mirror polished bell. The only other thing we see to mention is a dent in the large bell tubing curve at the pinky finger hook(see last 2 close-up images) Case shows overall wear/ roughness, with fabric losses and surface oxidation to exterior. Antique Empire French Sterling Silver (950) Gilt (Vermeil) Drageoir Urn, C.1820
This luxurious bonbon covered cup(Urn) was made in France in the late Empire period. Between 1819-1938(Late Georgian/ Pre Victorian era in England) In the days before the electroplating was invented(before 1840) the plating of gold over silver was done in a very dangerous technique. The silver item was brushed with a paste made of mercury and gold powder and then fired in a kiln in low temperature. The deadly mercury fumes took many lives of those who were not careful enough. That is why only the very rich could afford vermeil objects… The glorious'grail' stands on four ball feet and a square base. So beautifully decorated all over with the Empire Neoclassical motifs. The rims show palmettes or gardoons. The front and back show a pair of heraldic dolphins(fish) Their tails holding sea shells. Large palmettes on the sides, and a lacy ... moreopen work palmette rim above them. The handles each show a beautiful 3D cornucopia with acanthus leaves and a pair of love birds in a nest. The cover holds a central rosette with palmette medallions and a gorgeous 3D swan. The urn is marked with the Vieillard 1 st(old man) 1819-1838 mark for.950/1000 or 95% pure silver content(higher than the standard.925 sterling) And also the lady in profile guarantee mark and the maker's mark D G(but I did not manage to find out who it is) The crystal bowl inside is original and in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The Dargeoir urn is also in excellent condition. There are only a few minor scratches and tiny dings on the lid. But really nothing serious– see pictures. Total weight: 837 grams. Up fo r auction is a fine antique Frenc h dresser jar. The jar is made of heavy gauge continental silver. It is 2 5/8" in diameter and 2 3/8" high. It is larger with the overlapping lid. This antique jar still has the vermei l on the inside. The beautiful chased cartouche on the lid was never engrave d. The jar is fully marked. It was made by J. Granvigne of Paris. He worked in the late 19th and early 20th century on 4 rue Beranger. The jar is in very good used condition. Great addition to a fine collection.
