V. CHRISTENSEN DENMARK DANISH SILVER SPOON - DECORATIVE -FIGURAL - CA. 1873
This 0.826 pure silver spoon was made by V. Christesen of Denmark in 1873. It has a figural casting of possibly a king at the top of the handle. The spoon has a slight bend in the middle of the handle. Other than that. We see no imperfections. T he spoon measures 4 3/8" long and weighs 3.0 ounces(2.73 troy ounces. Or about 85 grams) It has the three towers symbol with a 73 date indicating its purity and date of manufacture. It also has the assayer mark of Simon Groth and the mark of a Cupid flying with a torch. There is another mark that is below the cupid. This vintage serving spoon. Or ladle was hand-fashioned and marketed by Sanborns of Mexico. The maker's signature was rarely placed on items sold by Sanborns, so we can't identify the maker of this spoon. The spoon is 7 3/8 inches long, not including the portion curled under, and is in excellent condition. The bowl of the spoon is hand-hammered and it is approxomately 7/8 inches deep. There are no monograms, wrinkles, bends or breaks. The Sanborns Hallmark and"Sterling" are impressed in the back of the handle. This item weighs 2.7 ounces. This item is believed to date from the 1940s or 1950s.

Large silver serving spoon from Liner OSLOFJORD shipwreck 1940
This is a large silver plated SERVING SPOON by a Norwegian manufacturer. It is 8.5 inches or 215 mm long and in fantastic condition considering its time on the seabed- it is still useable.A bit of the pa ting has worn away where the stem meets the bowl and also on the back of the bowl- see pics. I guess these are typical of the best quality silverware used on these liners. This was recovered from the Norwegian/ American Line Liner OSLOFJORD which sunk in 1940 off Tynem outh. It comes complete with a certificate of authenticity. MV Oslofjord Sunk 1940 This was an 18.673 ton five-deck trans-Atlantic passenger liner. Able to carry 860 passengers and 310 crew, built 1938. Oil engines. 590ftx73ft. In ballast after refit as troopship, Liverpool to Newcastle. It was sunk: on the 1 December. 1940, when its back was broken by a German acoustic mine, ... moreand was subsequently beached close to Tynemouth where the salvors thought they might save her. This was all to no avail and she was smashed up in relatively shallow water. This is the largest shipwreck on the East coast. There is a huge amount of broken wreckage on sand seabed. The bow section points seaward.and the four diesel engines are laying clear of wreckage after inward collapse. Articles found include pewter. Crested pottery, silver salvers and brass portholes The wreckage of the 5317-ton Greek steamer Eugenia Chandris lies in contact near the engine room after she struck the Oslofjord wreck and sunk on 15 March, 1943 NORWEGIAN-AMERICAN LINE The Early Years(1910– 1919) Norwegian America Line(Den Norske Amerikalinje A/S) was formed in 1910. The spoons measure approximately 4 7/8" long and the round part on the spoon measures approximately 3/4" in diameter. The fork measures approximately 5" long and the tongs measure approximately 5 3/4" long. The set is not marked but it has been tested and is either 835 or 900 silver. This whole set weighs 3.74 Troy oz. It looks to be Turkish or middle eastern because of the markings and from research appears to date from the early 1900's or turn of the century. It is in good condition EXCEPT for some minor surface scratches on the piece of silver located at the top of the spoons. The handle of the spoon is topped with a man in Renaissance style dress holding an anchor or a sword. The entire spoon is covered with a nice gold wash. The spoon was made in the late 1800s or early 1900s. Probably in the Netherlands or Germany, certainly from continental Europe. The back of the bowl is stamped with three pseudo hallmarks. The spoon has been tested and is guaranteed to be at least 800 silver purity. The condition is excellent. The gold wash is completely intact. There are no dents. This is a beautiful old apostle spoon. Approximately 4 3/4" long, the bowl measures 1 3/8" x 1 1/8" Solid silver(unknown fineness) Approximately 0.6 oz. Decoratively twisted handle with high relief panels on both sides and an apostle figure at the end. The handle has a pronounced rat tail on the underside of the bowl. Age and origin unknown. As the mark appears to be by Charles Jackson. First registered in London in 1714. The date code, B, matches very closely both the 1717 date and the 1797 date. The very worn lion passant mark is present(sterling standard) but I'm not absolutely sure the city code is London. Though I expect it is. The marks on this fine marrow scoop are worn and difficult to read. It is certainly an 18th century piece. Very likely early 18th century from 1717. There is no damage to the scoop and no monograms. GENERAL INFO: All items are being sold“AS IS. some are new in boxes and some are used and it will be honestly stated as such. We have been downsizing and consolidating and have found several vintage items in our attics/garage, and things we just don’t need. These are our personal items and are not from“smoke-free, pet-free,kid-free” homes, so if you are sensitive to any, please do not bid. Payments are expected within 5 days or item will be relisted or offered to another bidder. DESCRIPTION: Very old and hard to find silver plated pattern by National Silver Company. Approximately 74 pieces of flatware that has been stored in an old Dirilyte box for safe keeping from tarnish. Most definitely silver ... moreplated. The knives in the set are light(I assume hollow) and blade marked stainless. Auction includes all the flatware, the box, and a Gerity Large Serving Spoon, as pictured. I have no idea how old it is nor the pattern name, I gave up researching. Closest I came was Pattern#1 at Replacements which dated 1925. The Gerity spoon has some pitting on the reverse but for their age, all in great shape for polishing. I tried to take pictures to show the unique markings. Please feel free to ask any additional questions. SHIPPING: All items will be shipped by best means available and well packaged. Glass will be bubble wrapped and peanuts added.
