The base is struck with the famous silversmith's stamp of"Mappin& Webb London" The top surface shows the British assay mark of Sheffield 1911. Georgian Silver on Copper Large Antique Salver Tray. Sheffield Electro Plate.
You are bidding on this large silver on copper plate(Electro Plating) salver. Which weighs 1.7 Kilo, and measures 14 inches in diameter. The slaver stands at a height of just under 1.5 inches on its three feet. Information received from a leading Edinburgh Auction House that it is late Georgian Period. In sound and very good condition, with no dents. There is some rubbing however to the centre of the salver, as my late Mother used it as a plant pot stand. The tray stands on four scroll feet. The tray is 7-1/2 inches/ 191 mm wide and it stands 1 inch/ 25 mm high. Made of very thick gauge silver. It weighs 353 grams. The underside of the tray has clear hallmarks- lion passant. London mark, letter S for 1753 and maker's mark EW below the Prince of Wales feathers for Edward Wakelin. The salver measures 10 ¼ inches or 26 cm in diameter. And weighs 17.08 troy ounces or 530.2 grams. The salver has a beautiful scalloped edge with a high relief scrolling design. The center of the tray is engraved with a fine line design. The tray sits on scrolled feet with floral design. The back of the tray is marked with the standard British hallmarks; the leopard mark for London. The sterling standard mark of the lion, the date letter“E” for 1860, and the Queen Victoria I duty mark which was used from 1838-1890. This is a very good Antique Solid Silver Small Salver. It has a wavy rim with a beaded rim interspersed with embossed plumes of feathers. It has a very pretty engraved floral border and then in the centre it has a large engraved pattern of flowers. Leaves and scrolls. It stands on 3 claw feet. Most qu ite old English pieces like this beautiful 8-1/2" diameter salver or footed tray. This piece date s to 1732. London and has a scalloped, gadroon rim with a central engraved boar's head mark. These marks were commonly taken from a part of the family shield or crest and are commonly found on sterling pieces from this era. The salver ha s 3 pad feet. There are a couple of scratches to the surface. One about 2" long and the other about 1" in length. Underneath. This salver has a very faint, nearly worn away name, M.I. Burton. It does have fairly clear maker's marks including the crowned leopard duty mark. The lion passant, date code for 1732 and partial maker's mark. H. ... morewith a dot beneath the two letter s. London and has a rope rim with a circular design in the center and three lovely feet. The tray stands 1-1/4" from the ground. The sterling silver is very substantial and heavy and as a nice result, there are no dents or dings. The surface does appear to be slightly irregular in shape; that is. It may not be perfectly level. But I've photographed it as straight on from the edge as possible and it looks fine from there. It could be that one side of the raised rim is slightly flatter. Old Sheffield Plate Salver/ Waiter with Gadrooned Border& Shell Feet C.1830 This is an early nineteenth century old Sheffield plate waiter with a gadrooned border and three shell feet. It is very pretty. This is an unusual piece of old sheffield plate as the main part is made of nickel silver rather than copper. And it is tinned on the underside rather than silver plated. the feet though are the usual thin silver pressing on a lead core backed by copper. I'd date it from the design of the feet to between about 1810 and 1830. Size: about 8 1/2 inches across( 22.5 cm) x 3/4 inch high( 2 cm) Weight: 424 grammes Condition: as stated the plating is very worn- but would look great with a bit of TLC and Nushine. English sterling silver salver or small tray made by Ebenezer Coker of London in 1767. This piece is in a round, 6-lobed form and is raised on three feet. The rim is done in a elegant gadrooning. The tray is completely hand engraved with a repeating pattern of a sprig of English flowers surrounding a central cartouche. The cartouche is monogrammed with an impressive crest or coat of arms. The crest shows two shields with stars and crescent moons tied together with a ribbon. The underside is marked with the lion passant for sterling silver. The crowned leopards head for London, a date letter M for the year 1767 and a makers mark EC for Ebenezer Coker. This piece is in good overall condition. ... moreEspecially for its age. There is surface wear to the center and edges of the tray commensurate with use. The engravings in the center are worn, but still present. There has been a repair to one of the high points on the rim of the tray. There was a hole formed in the high point of the tray, caused by wear/polishing. The hole was filled in with silver, and is quite stable. We have shown this in the photos. This repair is very minor. There are no dents, no breaks, no splits, no monogram removals and no other repairs. The salver or small tray measures about 8 1/8 inches in diameter and 1 inch tall. Description You are bidding on a fine quality silver plate(silverplate) laurel and swag salver/ tray by Hawksworth. Eyre& Co, Sheffield England. The tray has a gadrooned border that is applied to the main part of the tray. The inner border is a pierced motif with swags cascading down the sides to a laurel leaf bottom border that goes around the tray and finished with a very intricate center ring motif. Lavishly illustrated volume published in London in 1863, Masterpieces of Industrial Art& Sculpture. At the International Exhibition, 1862. This International Exhibition was sponsored by the Royal Society of Arts. Manufactures and Trade, and featured over 28,000 exhibitors from 36 countries. The expo was a tremendous popular success, attracting over six million visitors during the run of the expo in 1862. The sheet measures 11.5 x 16.5 inches in size. And is blank on the reverse side. It has a few very small bits of age spotting in its blank margins but is still in beautiful condition, with the colors bright and sharp. Above the image it is labelled in small print“ITALY— PLATE ... more245. The credit line below the image reads: London. Chromolithographed& Published by Day& Son. Lithographers to the Queen. J.B.
