One bottle seems to have original stopper. The rest are missing their toppers. The castor unit is made of silver electroplated metal. The handle seems to be missing its electroplating probably from use. Size: The entire set stands 14 inches tall 6 1/2 inches in diameter. The cruet bottle with stopper is 7" tall Castor sets were popular from the 1890s to the first world war. And were used in the center of every dining table. Condition: Very good pre-owned item. Silverplate has worn on handles and in other places on the piece. 4 bottles on missing their toppers. Every bo ttle has a different pattern. So they may not all be original t o the castor set. But from the same era- do not know. This is a rare find and can be a great piece to add to your collection. I am not an antique dealer so if you have any questions at all. This fine silver plate piece features a round base with 4 cabriole feet in the Rococo style. It has oval medallions around the base with a scrolling acanthus leaf handle that raises above the base. The glass jar is acid etched and hand painted with a large landscape scene featuring a mother and child walking on a large estate. The painting is further enhanced with heavy applied gold enameling. The silver plate is made by William ... moreRogers Manufacturing Co. the bottom is marked"WM. Rogers Mfg. Co. and then reads"Rogers" with an anchor on each side. There are also the marks"Quadruple 448" The anchors date this piece to 1865-1867. The insert is a very pretty opalescent light blue satin glass with a diamond hatch mark design. Please see photos as I am doing a terrible job of describing the beauty of this piece. The glass is slightly bluer on top and more opal on the bottom. There is wear to the rim but no chips. Cracks, or other damage to the piece. The silver plate holder is very decorative with a floral design and a ruffled edge. The lid of the pickle jar has a brighter finish than the rest of the piece and I am unsure if it is the original lid. Please make your own determination. The decoration on the tongs has floral elements but also may not be original to the piece. The pickle castor measures about 10&1/2" tall and just over 6&1/2" at its widest and the glass insert measures about 4&1/4" tall and about 3&1/2" in diameter. I cannot find the pattern for this piece and I know this glass design is rare- this is over all a stunning and unusual piece and would be a perfect addition to any collection. Victorian pickle castor, IVT cranberry glass, hand ptd insert, & tongs x2, c1890
Victorian pickle castor. Metal unmarked, IVT(inverted thumbprint) cranberry glass, hand painted insert, floral spray in raised thicker enamel, tongs x 2, c1890. The castor is about 9.75" tall and 6" wide. The castor is probably original and from a quality company. The number"24" is scratched into the base(photo 7 at about 5:00) The glass insert has a ground and gilded top. There is a small fleabite on the inner rim of the insert(photo 5) which is minor. I did polish lightly, and checked the plating. The plating is all intact with no worn spots. It could be thoroughly polished when received, however, old silver plate looks better to me with some oxide to reflect its antiqueness. My opinion. I don't see any damage to the castor other than some wear on the inside of the base. This castor has a nice intricate design and comes with the tongs. Six Original Bottle Castor Set
An antique six bottle castor set in very good condition. This set has the original bottles. There is one chip in the bottom of the horseradish bottle. The spoon in the horseradish bottle is marked Rogers and I am not sure it was original although it looks like it belongs. The holder does not have a hallmark on the bottom. The silver on the horseradish has a little bit of pitting on the side of the silverplate. I took photos of it for you to see. The three Silverplate pieces need to ha ve washers put on them as the do not stay on unless they have washers. All the tops on the bottles are in good condition and are original. A very nice piece. Quadruple Plated Silver Castor w/ Root Beer-Amber Glass Canoe Shape Insert
Here's an old fashioned metal plated(most likely quadruple plated) pickle castor with a large root beer-amber glass canoe shaped bowl. The castor measures 7 1/4" tall. About 3 3/8" in diameter and is approximately 2 1/2" deep(front to back) Very ornate, Victorian era styled with swirls, ropes and leaves. The canoe measures 9 1/2" long, 2 3/4" in diameter at the widest middle area, 2 1/2" tall at the middle and has four small knob feet. This glass canoe has shell type pattern. and set is in nice condition although the arch or top of the castor doesn't look level to me but this just may be an optical illusion or just needs to be adjusted. The canoe has multi-tiny bubble inclusions probably origination from the manufacturing process of that era. I don't have any information on the makers or if it's ... morean original set. Offered from a NJ estate is a rare and beautiful Victorian ear double castor set A silverplated stand with flower and scroll embossing around cups and handle. Flared embossed feet. Decorative scroll hook for the tongs which have 3 claw scaled grabbers and dogwood flowers applied on the handles where you'd grip. The jars are gorgeous cranberry glass in a melon rib pattern. They flare at the bases and taper to straight sides. The silverplated lids are beautifully embossed with raised scroll and have knobs with feather motif. Excellent vintage condition with no dents. Scratches or dings to the plate. The bottles are in excellent condition with the exception of a 3/8" shallow rim chip. On one that is shown in close up in the final photo. Double Castor/Cruet Frame/stand MERIDEN B COMPANY gothic design
You are bidding on an old DOUBLE PICKLE CASTOR STAND. In excellent shape, looks like it was replated! It is about 8 inches wide by 11 inches high, holds cruets about 3 1/4 inches in diameter, maybe less. There are 4 ornate feet, has a woman's head stamped on the front and back of the middle section and Roman's heads on the handle, plus It looks like it will shine up. There is a stamp MERIDEN B COMPANY, with the double ax logo, and 30 under the base, indicating that is was made in the late 1900's. The only flaw that I did see was the hook for the cruet tongs, it looks like it is missing part of the end of the original hook. Glass as their pattern#101, and dating to 1884, this BEAUTIFUL daisy and button patterned vaseline Pickle Castor canoe insert is 8.25" long by 3 1/8" wide. As you can see in the pictures. The canoe fits almost as if it were made for the holder and they match very well. The holder is 9.5" tall to the top of the curved, decorated frame handle. The underside of the frame is marked with"James Tufts Boston Mass" and the numbers 2276. If you follow the Tufts holders on ebay you know they sell for $75 or more. Tufts was known for quality! The Vaseline Canoe has what appears to be never used crystal clear glass, with no detractions that I can see or feel. There are ... moreno chips. Antique Gilded Cranberry "Threaded Swirl" PICKLE CASTOR - Rogers Smith Frame
A lovely Victorian PICKLE CASTOR- circa 1890's The silver plate frame is marked with the maker's name inside the top of a shield- Rogers Smith& Co. the rest of the shield would have read: Meriden CT- Quadruple. The pattern number'219' is off the right side. The jar or insert is a beautiful cranberry glass with a bulbous base. The surface is covered with thin ribs called threading in a swirl pattern- sprinkled with gold that appears to have been randomly applied rather than worn. It is topped off with an acorn finial lid. 12" tall overall. Jar with lid is 7" high- 4 3/4" high on its own, 7" long tongs Condition: Excellent! NO chips. NY Quadruple Plate Hard White Metal 53" Glass insert is 4 1/2 inches tall and app. 3 inches square at base and has floral motif. Tongs are 6 3/4 inches long. Sits solidly, does not rock- displays well! Condition- frame has solder separation in 2 places on feet as well as minor dings. Plating worn(almost gone) insert has minor roughness, 2 fleabites to top rim(1/8 inch, shallow) and one chip on underside at corner(shallow, 1/8 x 3/8 inch) does not detract; lid shows plating wear; plating on tongs is very worn; see pics. PICKLE CASTOR WITH FRAME VICTORIAN STYLE SPIRAL OPTIC PATTERN GREEN FENTON
This is a reproduction of an early Victorian Style Pickle Castor. The spiral optic pattern insert was made by Fenton Art Glass Co. and is stamped on the bottom as well as having a foil label. The metal frame. Tongs and lid are imported. The frame measures 10 1/2" tall and the insert measures 5 1/8" tall and 4 1/4" diameter.
