ENGLISH GEORGIAN ANTIQUE STERLING SILVER - Gilbert Collection de Lamerie Storr
The Gilbert Collection of Gold and Silver" By Timothy B. Schroder. Published by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art& Thames& Hudson in 1988. DISCUSSION: Philanthropists Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert passionately amassed what was probably the finest private collection of goldsmiths' work in the world. Early on they concentrated on Georgian silver—in particular 18th and early 19th century works by English masters Paul de Lamerie and Paul Storr— and later broadened the collection to survey English and Continental goldsmith's work from the Renaissance to the Victorian era. This 1988 volume is from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Where pieces from the Gilbert Collection were displayed before Arthur donated them to his native Britain. It catalogs 175 exquisite items, from a very rare Tudor silver-gilt casting bottle, ... morewith tiny dragons holding its chain handle, to an enormous cup with scenes and figures commemorating the life of Lafayette, presented to his son George Washington Lafayette after his father's death. Here too are a collection of elegant German tankards; a cup carved from a coconut to look like a somewhat pudgy hawk, with jewels and silver wings; and a 17th-century wager cup shaped like a maiden, which was later fitted with a clockwork mechanism under her skirt so she could roll along the table. Many are seen in color plates; all are shown in a large main view with smaller detail views of noteworthy features and the smith's marks, and their provenance and construction are thoroughly described. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 9.5”x11” 688 pages, filled with black& white and color illustrations, dust jacket. CONDITION NOTES: In fine. Clean condition. QUESTIONS about this item? Beautiful Sterling Silver English Fish Server, London, 1833, Must See !!
Welcome to our Ebay site. We are so glad that you stopped by. We are pleased to offer our Ebay customers this beautiful sterling silver Fish Server. This lot is hallmarked 1833 and was manufactured in London. England by either William King or William Knight II. This piece is designed features two fish and a bird between the fish. That leads me to believe that maybe this was both a fish server as well as a game bird server, such as a quail might be. I found one minute ping on the edge of the server. It does not detract from the piece and is not easy to see. This lot will consist of the following pieces: 1) 11 5/8" fish server. This piece weighs 3.97 ounces or 112.5 grams. This is a wonderful opportunity to add to your existing collection or a great time to start collecting something new. This lot is monogrammed. Other than that which ... moremay have been mentioned, there are no flaws. I do not polish or clean silver. Always assume that the flatware or hollowware that you are purchasing may need to be polished or cleaned. I do take all of my pictures outdoors, you may therefore see reflections from the trees, sky, or surroundings. You may also see an occasional rain drop or snow flake. These are only reflections, not flaws or discoloration. Please feel free to email us with any questions that you may have concerning this auction. We wish you all the best of luck. Remember, list us as a favorite seller, we have a great assortment of antiques that we are adding daily.

Antique ENGLISH SILVER DISHES & BOWLS -Clark Institute Sterling Tableware
Old Silver Bowls and Dishes” By Peter Guille. Published by the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute in 1964. DISCUSSION: An exhibition drawn from the museum's collection. Basically 18th century London work with a few Irish examples. The photos are still stark-silver against a black background. But not as contrasty as in the 1960 catalog, with more detail showing. Quite lovely. In 1910. After a distinguished career in the United States Army, Sterling Clark settled in Paris and began collecting works of art, an interest he inherited from his parents. When he married Francine Clary in 1919, she joined him in what quickly became a shared passion. Together they created a remarkable collection of paintings, silver, sculpture, porcelain, drawings, and prints with complete reliance on their own judgments and tastes. In 1950 the Clarks founded ... morethe Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute as a permanent home for their collection, and the museum first opened to the public in 1955. Since its conception, the Institute has had a dual mission as both a museum and a center for research and higher education. It is in this spirit that the Clark has expanded over the last five decades to become the influential institution it is today” from the Museum website) DESCRIPTION: Softcover. 6.5”x10” 8 pages of text plus 34 black& white plates. The Service is one of the most beautiful I have sold in a very long time with gorgeous Repousse Fancy Sterling Silver Handles to every piece. The Service is much nicer in real life and I am sure the new owner will be impressed. The Knife Blades and Fork Tines are early Silver Plate on Steel and are fully marked AH* JH as seen in the photos. The Sterling Handles are also fully Hallmarked for Sheffield England. Sterling Silver and the Maker's mark A.H for either Aaron Hadfield or Ashforth& Harthorn. There is also the Bust of Queen Victoria visible. The marks are very tiny, some are worn, some are obscured by the pattern and I could not find a Date Mark, but both Maker's were only working until 1865, so the Service must predate that. Overall the Service is in very fine condition with the Sterling Handles showing no dents or cracks, the Silver Plated Steel parts do show some signs of wear consistent with age but no loose handles and the set is very pract
Ornate Antique English Sterling Silver Serving Spoon * Hallmarked 1795
Silspoon Ornate Antique Sterling Silver Serving Spoon English* Hallmarked 1795 This large sterling silver serving spoon is 215 years old and was made by Thomas Northcote& George Bourne. It is stamped with their maker's mark and has the English sterling hallmarks for London 1795. It would have been a plain spoon in the Old English pattern when they made it. The chasing and engraving was added in the 19th century when the plain Georgian pieces went out of style. The engraving is especially nice and different on each side. It's in excellent condition with very little wear and no repairs or other damage. The fruit filled bowl is gilded. It measures 8 1/2" long and 1 3/4" across the bowl. It's heavy and solid(56.9 grams) and would look great with any traditional silver pattern. I stand behind everything that I offer and ... moreguarantee that it is exactly as presented. Fine Antique English Sterling Silver Card Case - 1870
A really exquisite card case and a good early example dating to 1870. Mid Victorian in era. The handsome shaped case is beautifully engraved all over including a rose to each of the four corners. The hinge is in perfect working order and when opened reveals the hallmark for Birmingham 1870 together with the highly prized Queen Victoria's head duty mark. The makers initials are slightly rubbed from the opening and closing of the case but I believe it to be HM for the renowned silversmith, Henry Matthews. Ornate Sheathed Antique English Sterling Silver Scissors * Circa 1840
Silscis3 Ornate Sheathed Antique Sterling Silver Scissors English* Circa 1840 These wonderfully ornate sterling silver(tested) handled embroidery scissors and their sterling sheath are at least 170 years old. The shanks are modeled with grape clusters and vines. Snakes go around the bows and grapes decorate the sheath. They were made in England in the early 19th century. Probably by Joseph Taylor of Birmingham. English silversmiths didn't mark small items(and have to pay duty on them) until required to by law in the early 1880s. They have tight blades. Sharp points and cut beautifully. There is no rust and t he silver on the scissors is also in excellent condition with no dents. Splits or repairs. The sheath is a nice snug fit on the scissors. The scissors measure 3 3/8" long(3 1/2" in the sheath) They were probably once part ... moreof a boxed set of tools. These scissors are shown in the set on p. 128 of Nerylla Taunton's book Antique Needlework Tools& Embroideries. I stand behind everything that I offer and guarantee that it is exactly as presented.
