ENGLISH GEORGIAN ANTIQUE STERLING SILVER - Gilbert Collection de Lamerie Storr
The Gilbert Collection of Gold and Silver" By Timothy B. Schroder. Published by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art& Thames& Hudson in 1988. DISCUSSION: Philanthropists Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert passionately amassed what was probably the finest private collection of goldsmiths' work in the world. Early on they concentrated on Georgian silver—in particular 18th and early 19th century works by English masters Paul de Lamerie and Paul Storr— and later broadened the collection to survey English and Continental goldsmith's work from the Renaissance to the Victorian era. This 1988 volume is from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Where pieces from the Gilbert Collection were displayed before Arthur donated them to his native Britain. It catalogs 175 exquisite items, from a very rare Tudor silver-gilt casting bottle, ... morewith tiny dragons holding its chain handle, to an enormous cup with scenes and figures commemorating the life of Lafayette, presented to his son George Washington Lafayette after his father's death. Here too are a collection of elegant German tankards; a cup carved from a coconut to look like a somewhat pudgy hawk, with jewels and silver wings; and a 17th-century wager cup shaped like a maiden, which was later fitted with a clockwork mechanism under her skirt so she could roll along the table. Many are seen in color plates; all are shown in a large main view with smaller detail views of noteworthy features and the smith's marks, and their provenance and construction are thoroughly described. The Mustard Pot is a classic Georgian design of the late 1700's but is actually made by the fine Silversmiths Martin Hall& Co Ltd in Birmingham in 1916. The Pot is truly an exquisite example with very fine etched and pierced designs throughout. Plus a very intricate and I am sure hard to make, drape form lid. I have tried to show all the amazing details but honestly it is so much nicer in real life. The Pot is also a larger size than most I see, measuring 3-3/4" long by 2" wide and sitting 2-3/4" tall. The Pot is in excellent condition overall with no flaws to the body, just a small crack in the lid near the hinge would could be restored I am sure. The Pot also retains it's fancy Blue Glass liner which shows one large chip to the side but is not at all noticeable unless removed from the pot. The Mustard Pot has a quality weight of 70 grams, not counting the glass liner. This would make a very fine addition to any Mustard Pot or Silver collection. BEST OF LUCK WITH ALL OF OUR ESTATE

Georgian Silver on Copper Large Antique Salver Tray. Sheffield Electro Plate.
You are bidding on this large silver on copper plate(Electro Plating) salver. Which weighs 1.7 Kilo, and measures 14 inches in diameter. The slaver stands at a height of just under 1.5 inches on its three feet. Information received from a leading Edinburgh Auction House that it is late Georgian Period. In sound and very good condition, with no dents. There is some rubbing however to the centre of the salver, as my late Mother used it as a plant pot stand. Flat chasing to main body of salver, with lovely detail to edging and the three feet, as well as the etched design to main body of the salver. There is a pronounced hallmark on the underside, but I cannot quite work it out, so cannot give you a Maker. I understand that it is Old Sheffield Plate, made before the plating process changed from the the use of copper to nickel(1820- 1840) The ... morenumber 56 underlined is also stamped on the outer underneath edge. In view of information and advice received I have updated the text as well as auction start price. Posted with

Wine. Spirit& Sauce Labels of the 18th& 19th Centuries" By Major Herbert C. Dent. Printed in Norwich by H.W. Hunt in 1933. Edition limited to 250 signed. Numbered copies. DISCUSSION: The very first book on the subject of wine labels. And because of its rarity and the important place of its author in the history of label colleting, still a much sought-after volume. The text covers the evolution and nomenclature of the wine label, Bronte’ labels, Calcavella’ labels, Methuen’ labels, home-made cordial and wine labels, condiment labels, Madeira labels, and labels decorated with crests. Major Herbert Dent. MBE, started collecting labels around 1910. A veteran of service in India, by the early decades of the 20th century he had retired and could devote much time to his new hobby, which included the sale and gifting of hundreds of duplicate labels, and a steady correspondence with fellow collectors. Several years after he published this limited edition he sold his entire label collection to fellow collector Herbert W. Hollebone, in order to help finance his granddaughters’ educations. The Jar has great early form and wonderful Figural Lion Head and Ring Handles to each side. I searched back in my records and found that I have ever sold a Authentic Sheffield Plate Tea Caddy before. I am sure being a Rare find indeed. The Jar is of excellent quality with a fine sturdy hinge and nice Cannon Ball feet. The Tea Jar is exactly as we found it in the estate showing Copper bloom throughout which is nice as you know it has never been replated, also the hinge just needs a minor resoldering. The Jar is also a great size for display or use when serving tea, measuring 4-3/4" long by 3-1/2" wide and sitting 4-1/2" tall. There are no dents, cracks or repairs and I am sure the new owner will be most pleased. BEST OF LUCK WITH ALL OF OUR ESTATE AUCTIONS! Click here to see ALL of our NO RESERVE auctions! VERY FINE 18C - 1794 GEORGIAN PERIOD SILVER ARMORIAL TEAPOT WITH BASE STAND
I am offering a beautiful Georgian period teapot with base. The Teapot has a nice octagonal period form. Along with inlaid top lid and inlaid hinge with matching octagonal design to the lid itself. The handle appears to be original wood, The lid finial seems to be ivory. The separate base and one side of the Teapot has an armorial crest design with a Falcon and three Letters. TJJ or TSS. The Armorial appears to be original and had been monogrammed. The Teapot has an interesting period armorial with Three moons? Three lemon trees? and three castle towers? The teapot is otherwise in very good original condition with no dents. Cracks, or repairs, except for the handle which has a small hairline crack. There is some slight wear consistent with age of over 200 years. The Teapot is a nice, full size example measuring 9.5 inches long, by 4 inches ... morewide, and sits 6 ½ inches tall. This would display nicely and make an excellent addition to any antique Georgian period collection. Certainly and advanced piece for any collector. I am also selling other rare and interesting antiques and vintage items this week.

Click Here to Become a Fan of Us on Facebook and Click Here to Follow Us on Twitter(Be ... moresure to scroll down past the photos for the full description of this auction) Up for auction with NO RESERVE is a Rare Large Pair of Georgian Regency Period Sheffield Plate Candlesticks. The Candlesticks would date to right around 1810 and are the largest pair I can remember selling. Standing approx 12-1/4" tall by 5-3/4" wide across the bases. The Candlesticks are in very fine all original condition with some wear to the Copper as you would expect to see on an untouched pair of the period. I have tried to show the Seam Line in my photos, which advanced collectors want to see because it shows they have never been re-plated. The Candlesticks could use a slight adjustment to sit perfectly straight and we could not remove the one wax cup. Overall this is a very fine and rare pair of impressive large candlesticks for the collector and I doubt many examples this nice come up for auction, especially with no reserve! Very Rare Solid Silver Georgian Twin Handled Cup Double Struck Duty Mark
Welcome to my listing On offer is a truly stunning piece of Georgian silver a twin handled loving cup. Beautifully embossed with floral scroll work decoration with stunning flowers and foliage. Handles are decorated with flowers also and stands on a single pedestal foot also decorated in flowers. The item is struck with the duty mark twice when the tax was doubled in 1797. Birmingham showed this by double striking the duty mark. Which also dates the piece and quite often was not then struck with date letter. Size of the cup is as follows 5 inches across the handles the diameter of the rim is 3 inches and stands 4 inches high Makers mark is indistict looks like( Co) But can't be sure. the lion for sterling silver is just visible the 2 duty marks are lightly rubbed but are clear enough. The assay office mark is indistict but is probably ... moreBirmingham or York but again can't be sure. I'm almost certain it's not London as when tax was doubled London illustrated this with a clipped punch shape. While other assay offices struck the duty mark twice. Condition: rim is very slightly misshapen but is not serious at all. There are no dings or dents just one very minor split near one handle again is not serious. This item is in overall very good condition considering the age of the piece and displays beautifully. Weighs 192g Will post worldwide all postage requires a signature. Esteemed Maker Dorothy Langlands - Two Georgian Sterling Silver Spoons 1805
Esteemed Maker Dorothy Langlands- Two Georgian Sterling Silver Spoons 1805 Description. This is a pair of 1805 hallmarked sterling silver spoons made by esteemed silversmith Dorothy Langlands. A wonderful pair of Georgian old English pattern spoons. By one of the most collectable women silversmiths, Dorothy Langlands. Dorothy Langlands was the wife of John Langlands II and she took over her husband's business when he died in 1804. She retired in 1814. Like many pieces of smaller silverware from Newcastle, this piece doesn't have a date letter. The hallmarks on this pair of spoons are well engraved and clear. The spoons are well constructed and robust. The silver is beautifully engraved and monagrammed"S" IS" Possibly betrothal initials. These 2 spoons are in excellent condition considering their age- over 200 years! ... moreThey have a nice weighty and balanced feel about them. There are some small minor pinhead spots as expected for silver of this longevity. The silver hallmarks are: Mark of Origin: Newcastle Duty Mark: Sovereigns Head Sterling Silver Mark: Lion Passant Date Letter: circa 1805(Langlands 1804-1814) Makers Mark: DL Dorothy Langlands TT Two lovely handpainted Crown Ducal'Orange Tree' servers which would be used for cucumber sandwiches. Scones or any afternoon tea/ mealtime servings. They are circa 1920's to early 30s. They are in great condition, surviving the trunk on the journey by ship to Australia- and have been cared for over many years. The orange tree design is decorated nicely around the edges and corners. There is a small amount of crazing and a small faint line that looks like pencil or pen. Please view the images. Otherwise very bright vivid colours, no chips or cracks. A gorgeous set to add to your collect The measurements are: approx 13 cms in length and approx 2.5 cms width for the bowl. Total unpackaged weight is 31 grams

Delicate Antique Victorian Georgian Shell Shape Sterling Silver Salt Sugar Spoon
Lovely Victorian small spoon for a master salt(could possibly be a sugar spoon. But appears to small) This is an early piece. The bowl of the spoon is a figural scalloped shell. The handle is a simple straight round piece with a loop at the end. The back of the bowl is faintly stamped"sterling" with no other hallmarks detected. We have not cleaned this item for fear of damaging it. The handle is attached to the back of the spoon. There is a crack running alongside the handle which is not noticeable nor does it affect the structural integrity of the piece. Really interesting old item for your collection. It measures 5" long with the spoon bowl being slightly over 1" across at the widest section. Shipping is based on the weight of 10 oz which is the weight of the item and careful packing materials to get it safely to your ... moredoor. International Buyers– Please Note: Import duties.
