This listing is for a nice set of 5 Western Style Sterling Silver Button Covers. These will fit a 5/8 inch size button. Front visible portions are Sterling Silver with the backs being Nickel. This lot weighs 16.2 grams total. They are installed by opening the button cover on the opposite side of the hinge. Then sliding the back portion behind the button you wish to cover, and finally closing the button cover. You should hear or feel the button cover snap shut. 1400 GRAMS OF STERLING SILVER SCRAP. About 45 troy ounces. All of this is scrap from broken sterling silver jewelry or from the lost wax casting process. Some of it is Sterling silver jewelry that for what ever reason came out without a bail or was flawed in some way and was not suitable for sale. In addition. After melting sterling silver and using a caster you have an additional amount of molten silver not needed or used and so the remaining molten silver is dumped into cold water creating the smaller bits and pieces. There are some sprues and other sterling remains from the jewelry making process. ALL OF THIS IS GUARANTEED TO BE STERLING SILVER. If you are a jewelry maker you know you can use some of this old scrap with new silver to make new castings. The silver/copper color of some of the scrap occurs when you pour leftover moltened ... moresterling silver into cold water. Other pieces are sprues. Sprue trees, and pieces remaining after the jewelry was cut from the sprue and polished for sale. EVERY BIT OF THIS IS STERLING SILVER. I know this because I made hundreds of sterling silver pieces of jewelry in 1990's. I bought sterling casting grain from major companies 100 ounces at a time. I melted it, I did all the castings and I retrieved the remaining sterling pieces from the cold water and reused most of it. This is the scrap I had left. If you want to test it when you receive it Nitric acid is the chemical to use to test sterling silver. If you use it be very careful as it is a hazardous chemical. All of this sterling scrap is at least 15 years old and was packed away with some left over jewelry from our hobby/business after retirement. It is a hexagonal oblong shape and every side is full of raised embossed floral.Scrolling and organic flowing lines so typical of Art Nouveau design.The cartouche is unengraved from any initialling. 1906 GORHAM ANTIQUE STERLING SILVER COMPOTE BOWL - 350 GRAMS - NOT SCRAP
Up for bid is this beautiful Antique Sterling Silver Compote. It measures roughly 8.5 inches in diameter by about 3.25 inches at its tallest. I researched the hallmark and I believe it was made by Gorham. The date hallmark places it being made in 1906. Inside has Sterling under hallmarks and the number A2806. This piece came from a nice Hamptons Estate of an old family. Monogram features' B' I am not an expert on Antique Sterling but it seems most buyers are interested in good photos and the weight. I took it to the Post Office to have it weighed and it came out to about 350 grams total weight. As far as condition. It appears to be in nice condition overall with no dents or damage on the top but the bottom being slightly out of round due to a couple of dents.
