This is a large 45mm or about 1 7/8" antique Japanese Aesthetic style mixed metal button. C1885-1900. The large disk is copper or brass, with engraved cattails and a dragonfly in the sky. There is an applied three dimentional crane in a silvertone metal(silver plate I believe) There are no damages other than some spots of discoloration from age. the back has a very old patina. You will be pleased with this beautiful and rare button.

This auction is for a magnificent large coin silver centerpiece made by Wood and Hughes. New York. It is 13" tall to the top of the Greek Goddess handles. 11" tall to the top of the bowl, and 10" in diameter across the top. This fabulous piece of coin silver is in excellent condition. The handles are perfect. The noses are not pushed in and the balls on top of the heads have not been damaged. There are no repairs to the silver. The delicate handles have not been broken nor have the delicate strands of silver that decorate the base. The base does have a monogram. An S. This piece represents the finest design of the aesthetic movement down to the bright cut design on the top of the foot. It would look totally at home on a Herter Brothers cabinet. This centerpiece was made by Wood and Hughes in New York City between 1833 and 1871. ... moreIt is marked twice W&H 900/1000. The piece weighs 34 troy ounces. Up for auction is a Victorian 1884 Aesthetic Brown Transferware Ironstone Tennyson Demitasse Cup& Saucer. This is an early English Brown Transferware demitasse cup and saucer with one circle cartouch containing a bird. Another square cartouch has the picture of a thatched roof country home. There is a sailboat in the background as well as berries and flowers. The geometric aesthetic pattern is called Tennyson circa 1884. Markings: Tennyson inside a banner Rd. No. 709. N.W.P. Co. unknown company) England. Measurements: Cup- 2 1/2" tall. 2 1/2" opening. 3 1/2" from side of rim to opposite end of handle. 2 1/2" in diameter at the base. Saucer- 5 1/4" in diameter. 3/4" deep. Up for auction is a Victorian 1800s Aesthetic Brown Transferware Ironstone 4pc Matching Shaving Set. This is an early English Brown Transferware shaving set with a small water pitcher. Shaving brush holder( holes in the bottom and one hole at the side to let the water run out) Shaving mug, and soap dish with removable top to clean out the base bowl. Each piece can be used in the bathroom for holding soap, toothbrushes and decorative pieces. Each piece has a round cartouche showing an animal(pointer dogs, bird, or swan) Cherry blossoms tie the design together. Unmarked but this intricate geometric aesthetic pattern is circa 1880s. Makes a great display for a barber shop. Markings: None but probably Staffordshire. England. Measurements: Water pitcher- 5 3/4" tall. Base is 3" in diameter. 3" opening. 4 1/2" from end of spout ... moreto end of handle. Mug- 3 1/2" tall. 4 1/2" from end of handle to end ot rim. Opening is 3 1/2" in diameter. Side hole to dain water from base is 5/8" wide X 1/4" tall. Holder is 4 3/8" tall. Opening is 2 7/8" in diameter. Base is 3 1/4" in diameter. Condition: No chips or flakes. There are factory manufacturing marks around two of the holes in the insert for the soap. There may be other factory manufacturing flaws like glaze skips. Extra pieces of pottery or grit in the glaze, picture 4(inside of pitcher) and paint in the glaze. A Pair of China Aesthetic Movement Comports or Tazzas-Bird Motif
A beautiful pair of China Comports with striking designs in the Japanese style adopted during the Aesthetic Movement. Each piece has a Turquoise band of colour across it with a foreground motif of birds and foliage. The designs are drawn out in black with added colouring and are also highlighting in gold. As well as having bands of gold around the rims and outlining the turquoise band. I do not think these are English and assume they are Continental, but have no idea of what the birds are meant to be, which would have helped. Someone has suggested that the large bird with the horizontal turquoise band might be a Kookaburra. If so, could this mean they are Australian or made for Australia? The bases, which have been attached to the top, have the same leaf pattern on them, but have a different position for the turquoise band across them. A lovely pair of items, with some rubbing to the gilt and quite considerable wear to the turquoise bands which also have some yellowed patches, see photos. Size: 22.75cms diam X 8.25cms high. Blue Room Johnson Bros Transfer Square Plates Metropolitan Museum Aesthetic 4
This listing is for a set of four( 4) dark blue and white Johnson Brothers plates that were made for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York about 30 years ago. Each plate is approximately 7 1/4" in diameter. The transfer pattern is very typical of the Aesthetic Movement period. And it should work well with other blue and white china and with pieces that are solid colors like white or pink. It is also easy to imagine them with Japanese ironware and laquerware, or with woodenware of various kinds. I would describe these plates as being in very good vintage condition. There are some rough spots on the outer rims and 4 or 5 fleabites on the undersides of the plates. But they are not visible from the top. I am happy to work with buyers in many countries.

This is an aesthetic movement plate with a brown transfer print which has been hand colored. It shows a crane. Lagoon and blossoms. It is 7& 3/4" across and marked on the base"Bamboo, H& C. I have looked in Godden's marks book and believe the mark is from Hammersley& Co. of England. the plate is in nice cndition with a tiny bit of wear to the color around the edge and a couple of shallow utensil scratches, but no chips, cracks or repairs.

AESTHETIC JAPANESQUE LIDDED SUGAR BOWL BY TAUNTON SILVERPLATE 1870'S
Up for auction a fantastic Aesthetic Movement Japanesque silverplate sugar bowl by the Taunton Silversmith Company. The company was founded in 1853 and closed sometime around 1880 although there seems to be some confusion on this point. Based on the style of the bowl and the mark. I would date this piece to the later 1870's. The sugar bowl stands on four paw feet and is 8" tall x 6.5" wide at its widest point. It features a figural finial of a stylized head of an Asian figure on the lid which fits nicely into the bowl. There is also 2 other stylized Asian heads under each of the handles of the sugar bowl. Both sides are nicely engraved with a pagoda type building, a fence and foliage. The sugar bowl is in worn condition with plate loss, tarnish and a bent foot. Antique AURORA Silver AESTHETIC Ornate Engraved Tilting Hot Water/Coffee Pot
Here is a very ornate antique silverplated hot water or coffee tilting pot with stand and matching cup. It is marked as made by the Aurora Silver Plate Mfg Co and is triple plated. The pieces are numbered 44 for the pot. 044 on the stand and 047 on the bottom of cup. It is definately from the Aesthetic movement period with multi-motif Japanese influence. It is richly engraved with a floral like swag or curtains with tassels. Below the spout has what looks to be figural ears of corn. It has bands that are decorated with flowers, wheat and running dog or fox. The cup is also engraved with a floral motif and the same band with the fox/dog on it. It also has a face on the handle. The stand too has the same dog/fox band with very ornate deocorative openwork. The base has a little deocrative stopper to keep the pot from tipping backwards. The pot ... moreis double walled and has a little metal flapper on the inside of the spout. Sadly this grouping is not perfect. The little decorative piece of scrollwork on the underside of the stand's handle has broken out. But is included as you can see it in the photo. Also the end of the little side hook to hang the cup is broken off and missing. The lower area below the spout looks a a little pushed in, not sure if this is normal and is from when it was made or not. It seems to be a pretty sturdy piece and pushing this in would be pretty hard. Below the spout in the open area it is engraved with a date of"Sept. 14, 1881" The base of the cup is a little bent so it does not sit pefectly flat. I have to say though I don't think this pot was used much at all. The plating looks really nice, hardly any scratching and it is quite clean inside and out, this goes for the cup as well. The stand measures about 16 3/4" tall to the top of handle. The pot measures about 11" tall and almost 6" wide across the base. The cup is about 3 7/8"tall. I think the winner will be overall quite impressed with the decorativeness and ornate workmandship of this piece. It's

Aesthetic Movement Creamer& Sugar Bowl Aesthetic Movement Creamer& Sugar Bowl Outstanding late Victorian silverplated creamer and sugar bowl with an aesthetic motif that includes long tailed birds. Pine cones, daisies, and geometric shapes. These two were made by Meriden Silver Plate Co. of Meriden Connecticut and dates from the 1870’s-1880’s. Both pieces are stamped with the design number 1421. This elegant pair was never engraved with a monogram or inscription. The cream pitcher has a parcel gilt interior. Creamer: height is 5 7/8" 14.8 cm) width 6 1/2" 16.5 cm) Sugar: height is 9 1/2" 24 cm) width 81/8" 20.7 cm) This lovely pair is in good condition with a brilliant shine. But both have some condition issues to note. Both pieces have some wear to the silver here and there. The worst of the wear is located on ... morethe sugar lid and around the flared outer“collar” of the cream jug. There are scratches present on both items as well. The sugar lid was dropped at one time and has sustained a bend in it, as well as a small gouge on the outer edge. When the lid is on the base there is a gap on one side because it does not sit flat. The finial is slightly crooked as well. One of the feet on the cream pitcher has been bent, but the creamer stands well with no wobble. Both pieces have scratches and a small number of pits on their inner floor, but the interiors are quite clean. The gilt interior on the creamer has thinned over the years and the gold is now a much paler yellow than it was originally. As with all of our auctions. Antique late 1800's Meriden-Brittania Co. Aesthetically decorated heavily silverplated cream pitcher and sugar bowl. Wonderful decoration includes figural women heads on the tops of the handles and Satyr like faces on all feet. Additionally. The set is engraved in a holly leaf motif along with a figural Holly berry and leaf finial on the creamer and futher leaves and berries around the figural heads. The sugar bowl measures 4 1/2" height(to the rim) x 7" wide(tip of handle to tip of handle) and the creamer is 7 1/2" height(to top of finial) x 6 1/2" wide(tip of handle to tip of spout) The set is in very good condition with no dings or dents, no silverplate loss and only modest wear. According to the book American Silver Manufacturers by Dorothy Rainwater, pg, 107, the Company of Mead and Sons was formed in or around 1846 by John O. Mead after he returned from a trip to England to learn the art of Electro silver plating in the 1840's. By 1859 Mead was considered the first successful American electro silver plater around. Mead used the Coin Mark for his business until the late 1850's when the firm name became Filey and Mead. Later still the firm name was changed to Mead and Robins. That said, this dates the tea pot to the 1850's. It is a beauty standing 11.5 inches tall to the top of the finial, 8 inches tall to the rim and 9 inches ... morewide from handle to spout. The inside is clean and usable, no dings or dents, and beautiful silver plate that needs just a little polishing. There is a monogram on one side which is impossible to make out. GUARANTEED ANTIQUE.circa 1870-85.This fine teapot measures a stately 12"H.8" from spout to end of handle.the body itself is 5"w. Structurally sound, there are no cracks,breaks, repairs or losses. The silverplate itself is in fine condition.at worst there are some minor scratches which I believe could be polished out. Note the details of crouched winged bird/griffon like animals on the finial and the pineapple top. The rim below the lid is set with classical male and female figures in grecian or roman robes 1 1/2" high.cast in fine relief. The body of the teapot is gracefully etched with realistic foliage and leaves.then offset with geometric patterns and finally styleized flowers in the aesthetic movement fashion.Also ... morenote the quality of design as the whole of the body has a slightly"frosted" otr minutely textured finish to the top and bottom panels offset with a smooth or glossy band diagonal(in center)from foot to handle. The foliage and leaves as well as parts of the styleized flowers are shiny smooth set against the frosted background. A well thought out and executed work of beauty. The handle is set at top with what looks like a tassle held down by a spring type(does not move) tab with a button top.very unusual"off the wall" style. In its short life this pottery produced some of the most exotic and vibrant ceramics of the 19th century. Henry Tooth was active in developing the innovative glazes used at Linthorpe. Mixed Metals Jar Dominick And Haff 1879 Click on the thumbnails to view more photos This is a charming small sterling silver and mixed metal condiment jar by well-known American silversmiths Dominick& Haff of New York in the Aesthetic style. The entire surface of the urn-form body has been chased with a stylized foliate motif. And with applied mixed metal decorations of various scattered leaves and branches, attended by a single crane-like bird. In particular the leaves are very artistically rendered, and the asymmetrical arrangement makes this emblematic of the Japanese taste. The jar is stamped under the base with the maker s mark of Dominick& Haff, a date stamp of 1879, pattern number 276 F, and the word Sterling. The jar measures approx. 1 3/4" high, and is in very good condition overall. Nice 19th C Aesthetic Movement wash basin in red transfer. The condition is VERY good. There are a few light scratches in the bottom which can only be seen when light in reflected across the surface. One firing crack 2" long in the bottom revealing it's age of at least 130 years old. 14 1/2" x 5" tall. The pattern in Benedick and made by G W Turner& Sons of Tunstall. Please scroll down the page to see additional photographs of this item. 1880s TALL AESTHETIC MOVEMENT BRONZE& SILVER VASE Presented is a very fine Aesthetic Movement silver and red patinated bronze vase. The vase is in the shape of an amphora and is held upright in a heavy silver plate stand with claw feet on a square base. The front of the vase is mounted with a beautifully cast relief sculpture depicting a lion emerging from a thicket of ivy or grape leaves. The shoulder of the vase is decorated with a fine silverplate collar with vertical ribbing. The rim of the vase has an elegant shell and scroll border. The inside of the vase has a removable insert. So that the vase can hold a bouquet of fresh flowers. This was likely made Pairpoint Manufacturing Company around the 1880s. The vase does disassemble. And we will definitely ship this ... moredisassembled, depending on your location. It is very easy to reassemble. Even if you are not mechanically incline. The overall condition is excellent. The vase and the mountings are in great shape. Most of the patina is still there. Let the photos be your guide. The silver plating is in good shape. There are some small dents here and there to the red portion of the vase, on the side and back. These are minor, and will not be seen if the vase is positioned against a wall. There are no breaks, no cracks, no splits, no other dents, no monograms, no monogram removals and no repairs to the vase itself. The vase measures about 6 1/2 by 6 1/2 inches square at the base.
