Limoges France(1860 to 1900) Hand Painted Open Sugar Bowl and Hand Painted Creamer(Cream Pitcher) Set with a Floral Pattern Consisting of Alternating Pink Roses& Purple Violets Sharing the same Stem and Leaf Pattern over a Gloss White Glaze Application Attributed to being Decorated in Limoges, France in"Excellent Plus" to"Near-Mint Condition" Used, Circa 1894 to 1900. I first want to explain that in the United States from the 1870s up until World War Two the biggest hobby in this country was painting on porcelain. You had amateur painters. Professional painters, professional porcelain decorating and painting studios and some American poreclain potteries had their own decorating ... moredepartments. One crucial piece of knowledege you kneed to know is that the vast majority of this porcelain artwork done by American porcelain artists was painted on blank white porcelain imported in from other countries, You had French Limoges porcelain, Bavarian porcelain(and it was its own state from 1806 to 1918) German porcelain, Austrian-Bohemian porcelain and some came from Nippon(which is Japan) and other Far East Asian countries. The reason for this was the United States was still in its infancy when it came to porcelain production and the imported porcelain blanks were much less expensive then our own American porcelain blanks in most cases. Because of this a common mistake is to attribute antique American painted porcelain as to being painted in the country on the backstamp. There was a law institued in 1891 by the United States requiring all goods imported into the U.S.A. to have the country of origin on it somewhere. Therefore we have an abundance of antique hand painted porcelain by Americans on blanks marked from another country. R S Prussia Cream Pitcher & Sugar Bowl Set Fruit & Roses Antique Porcelain
Offered is an R. S. Prussia cream pitcher and covered sugar bowl made circa 1910. The set has a flared shape with a pedestal base. Ruffled around the rim with a white medallion on the front. Arched handles and a fancy finial. Decorated with pink roses and clusters of fruit. Pears and grapes. The green background has white shadow flowers. The creamer is 5 1/4" wide(spout tip to handle edge) and 3 1/2" high. The sugar bowl is 6" wide and 4 1/2" high to top of finial. The lid to the sugar bowl may be a replacement as it does not fit snuggly but wobbles when tapped. The inner ring is smaller than the bowl opening and the shape is slightly warped. Description Pretty cream and sugar set bearing the authentic red and green R.S. Prussia trademark backstamp of Germany(1905) Beautiful and petite rosebuds are the decorative main pattern. Rare and Stunning- Creamer& Lidded Sugar Bowl- Sanssouci Germany; numbered. Absolutely gorgeous green& floral backdrop to a Victorian dressed couple. On the Creamer. They are pictured outside- he is a formal long tailed outfit with knickers and she in her long dress is seated on a bench. The rest of the vase has beautiful bunches, and some singles, of blue, pink, orange, purple flowers; accented with green leaves. It has gold accents on the handle, the edge of the spout and on different sections of the creamer highlighting the green coloring on various sections of the creamer. The sugar bowl has 2 different scences in which the couple is shown. One is standing in front of a body of water with a bridge and the other one she is seated and he is standing. There is some loss/worn of gold trim color on certain small sections of each piece. ... moreOn the bottom of the each rim there are a few tiny rough spots to the touch. They both have the older crown, crossed lines and a large R and C in dark green on either side with SANSSOUCI stamped underneath. It is numbered by hand, 2321-15, and has the word Germany stamped in Red on the bottom of each piece. The symbols on the bottom of the sugar bowl clear and are a little worn off on the bottom of the creamer. The bowl is about 4 1/2" tall and 3 1/2" wide on the bottom. The creamer is about 5 1/4" at the highest point of the handle and is 2 1/2" wide on the bottom. Beautiful, classy and old this would be a welcome addition to anyone's collection. DESCRIPTION These are two old and beautiful ENGLISH LUSTER PORCELAIN c. 1790 sugar bowl and milk jug-creamer. The idyllic two piece have marvelus and characteristic shape with luster ornaments. The sugar bowl measures 6 1/4" tall(16 cm) 8" long(20 cm) and 6 1/2" wide(16.5 cm) The creamer measures 5" tll(13 cm) 5 1/2" long(14 cm) and 4" wide(10 cm) The two pieces have a very antiquated and exquisite feel to them. The The sugar bowl has few hair line on the bottom and one small factory imperfection hair line on handle. The creamer has inside one small stain spot. 2.00. Unfortunately this antique porcelain Dogwood sugar bowl is cracked by the spoon slot as you can see in the last couple pictures. And that's why this is value priced. I know it would be quite an expensive piece if not cracked as it is a beauty with hand painted flowers and footed. Thankfully the crack does not effect the function as its still useable and still a beautiful piece of old porcelain. Spoon is included and it is very old and needs a polish badly. It was founded as a decorating company and bagan decorating porcelain afte 1890. The company was nationalized in 1960 and became Porclain Factory Rudlostadt Volkstedt. Beautiful porcelain Sadler sugar bowl. Bottom says- SADLER, in a ribbon) with a crown above it, made in England, XO- in blue and some letters and numbers in gold I can't make out. Measures approx. 3 1/2 inches high and 5 1/2 inches wide- with handles. Bowl is in great condition with no damage, there is a small indentationon on bottom inside edge of lid that appears to be an imperfection when it was made since it is smooth and shiney porcelain and not dull like I believe it would look if it were a chip.

The large sugar bowl with the lid on is approximately 6-7/8" high& from the end of one handle to the end of the other is about 6-1/4" The creamer is about 5-1/4" high at the end of the spout and from the end of the spout to the top of the handle is about 5-1/4" across. The underside of the creamer has an 8 sided green hallmark with what looks like a B 3 M and the underside of the large sugar bowl also has an 8 sided green hallmark with what I think is a B N M. This set is not perfect but it makes a great appearance and it's ready to use! The thin gold accent lines are mostly worn off and I have tried to take many close-up images to show this. The inside rim of the ... moresugar bowl has roughage& I have tried to take close-ups of that. Also. The tip of the spout on the creamer has a small nick/chip& there are closeups of that also. This set still makes a very good appearance& definitely can be used& enjoyed! The lovely floral painting adds a colorful touch too!
