Lancasters Ltd. Ye Olden Days" Cream and Sugar Set(Please scroll down for MORE photos) Here's a beautiful vintage cream and sugar set from the Lancaster's Ltd. English Ware series. This set has a scene depicting an English gentleman purchasing an apple while his coach and coachmen wait. There's a manor house in the background. This scene is labeled"The Olden Days" under the illustration. It appears on both sides of the sugar bowl. But just on one side of the creamer. Both pieces are edged in gold, and the creamer has a gold stripe on the handle. The sugar bowl is about 2-3/8" high at the rim. And the creamer is about the same height, at the tip of the spout. Both pieces are marked with an"English Ware" Lancasters mark in green. There is also an incised number- 169 on both. Both have the decorator's ... moremarks in gold also. The backstamps on each were used from 1938-1944, when Lancasters became Lancaster and Sandland. No chips. No cracks, nicks. 800x600 English Pearlware Childs Miniature Tea Set Creamer Milk Jug CALEDONIA Benjamin Godwin Staffordshire England c. 1840 This early miniature milk jug was a made in the early 19th century as part of a complete childs tea set to teach little girls proper manners at tea parties. It is decorated with a hunting scene from the Scottish highlands…hunters on horseback with a bugle and dogs. The pattern name is"Caledonia" The Roman name for northern Britain now known as the Scottish Highlands. The Caledonia pattern features a series of images of hunters, dogs and stags. The little creamer has a London shape with pedestal base and flower moulded handle. It stands 2 1/2" tall. The jug is unmarked. The maker was Benjamin Godwin(1834-1841) from Staffordshire England. The pattern in this miniature version is illustrated and discussed ... morein Doris Lechler’s book“English Toy China” fig. 67) Godwin used the same blanks in his miniature Peacock pattern and Chinese imps. The set was finely potted. Transfer printed in earthy green on earthenware, finished with light pearlware glaze. Beautifully executed naive folk art imagery, a fine example of early 19th century miniature transferware. One of the earliest wares designed to entertain children. Intended for children to play with, used to instruct them in proper table manners or for a playtime tea party or simply to decorate a dollhouse table.
