The gold embellishment is slightly worn around the top rim of the jar and also in a few small spots on the bottom edge, handles on the jar and lid, and rim of the lid. There is no wear on the floral pattern. There is light scuffing on the underside due to being moved on hard surfaces. A Haviland Limoges hallmark is incised into the underside. Limoges France(1860 to 1900) Hand Painted Open Sugar Bowl and Hand Painted Creamer(Cream Pitcher) Set with a Floral Pattern Consisting of Alternating Pink Roses& Purple Violets Sharing the same Stem and Leaf Pattern over a Gloss White Glaze Application Attributed to being Decorated in Limoges, France in"Excellent Plus" to"Near-Mint Condition" Used, Circa 1894 to 1900. I first want to explain that in the United States from the 1870s up until World War Two the biggest hobby in this country was painting on porcelain. You had amateur painters. Professional painters, professional porcelain decorating and painting studios and some American poreclain potteries had their own decorating ... moredepartments. One crucial piece of knowledege you kneed to know is that the vast majority of this porcelain artwork done by American porcelain artists was painted on blank white porcelain imported in from other countries, You had French Limoges porcelain, Bavarian porcelain(and it was its own state from 1806 to 1918) German porcelain, Austrian-Bohemian porcelain and some came from Nippon(which is Japan) and other Far East Asian countries. The reason for this was the United States was still in its infancy when it came to porcelain production and the imported porcelain blanks were much less expensive then our own American porcelain blanks in most cases. Because of this a common mistake is to attribute antique American painted porcelain as to being painted in the country on the backstamp. There was a law institued in 1891 by the United States requiring all goods imported into the U.S.A. to have the country of origin on it somewhere. Therefore we have an abundance of antique hand painted porcelain by Americans on blanks marked from another country. Unusual Heavily Gilded Limoges Creamer and Sugar Bowl Set, c1900
Offered here is a rather unusual Limoges creamer and sugar dating to about 1900. The rims and handles are darkly gilded with the sprig accents are more brightly gilded and raised off the surface. The sugar measures about 6" across the handle and is a little shy of 4 1/2" tall to the top of the finial. The creamer is 5 1/4" across handle and spout and 3 3/4" tall to the top of the handle. Both pieces are in clean perfect condition with very little to report in the way of wear to the gilding. Jean Pouyat Limoges Porcelain Cream& Sugar Bowl with Unrecorded Lithophane Mark 5"l x 3 1/4"h& 5"l x 3 3/4"h. C. 1850's-1875. Oval fluted shape with scalloped top edges& crabstock gilt handles& lid finial. Delicate leaf& flower pattern in outline transfer painted overglaze in pastel colors& gilt with paste gilt outlining. LIMOGES LUSTERWARE sugar bowl
Antique. Fairly certain around turn of last century, Limoges lusterware sugar bowl, it held a bouquet of silk flowers. The color is hard to photograph. As it's at its best in the light, as the iridescent green picks up pinks and ivories. The inside bowl is a soft peach color, iridescent beige and tan in the light. The handles are gold, I do not know if they are real gold leaf or simply glazed on. Lusterware was created in ancient times. As well as in Japan, in England, France, and later, in the United States in the 1800's and early 1900's. It is unlike any other finish on chinaware, unusual and beautiful. Lusterware is pottery or porcelain with a glaze that gives it the coloring of iridescence by the addition of metallic oxides in the over glaze finish. Vintage W. G. Co. Wm. Guerin& Co. creamer and sugar bowl set manufactured in Limoges. France in an unknown pattern. The set features beautiful colorful floral displays with gold banding and heavy sponged gold highlights on the handles. The set is in good condition for its age with no scratches, crazing, but does have a small chip on the top side of the spout to the creamer. The pattern looks good, the gold shows slight wear due to age and usage. The sugar bowl measures about 6 1/2 inches wide from handle tip to handle tip and it stands about 3 inches tall with the lid in place. American Painted Porcelain" Porcelain Artware, American Art Pottery, Open Cream Pitcher and Sugar Bowl, Hand Painted with Pink Roses, Purple Violets and Green to Brown Leaves and Stems in the United States by an Unknown-Unidentified American Artist-Decorator over a Gloss White Glaze Application on Porcelain Blanks, Marked, D. Co. R. Delinieres and Company of the La Taupiniere Porcelain Factory on Rue Albert Thomas, Limoges France) 1860 to 1900 with both Items in"Excellent Plus" Used Condition. Circa Late 1800s to Early 1900s. I first want to explain that in the United States from the Mid 1870s until World War Two the biggest hobby in this country was painting on porcelain. Besides the amateur painters you also had professional painters. Professional porcelain decorating studios and some American ... moreporeclain potteries had their own decorating departments. One crucial piece of knowledege you need to know is that the vast majority of this porcelain artwork done by American porcelain artists was painted on blank white porcelain imported in from other countries, You had French Limoges porcelain, Bavarian porcelain(and Bavaria was its own kingdom from 1806 to 1918) German porcelain, Austrian-Bohemian porcelain and some came from Nippon(which is Japan) and other Far East Asian countries. The reason for this was the United States was still in its infancy when it came to porcelain production and the imported porcelain blanks were much less expensive to buy than our own American porcelain blanks in most cases. Because of this a common mistake is to attribute antique American painted porcelain as to being painted in the country on the backstamp. There was a law institued in 1891 by the United States requiring all goods imported into the U.S.A. to have the country of origin on it somewhere. She never used it. But from the mark it appears to have been made possibly in 1895. I have had it myself for over 25 years in addition to the time my grandmother had it. It is a beautiful white porcelain with a gold accent design and a floral pattern of pink and blue flowers with some green and what appears to me as yellow and purple. All three pieces are included in this auction as a set. The coffee pot or teapot or perhaps chocolate potmeasures approximately 9.5" tall x 7" x 6" and comes with the lid.The Sugar Bowl is 5" x 5" x 5" ... moreand also comes with the lid. Antique Sugar Bowl Delinieres Limoges hand painted by White’s Art Co pre 1923 This unique and exquisite antique sugar bowl was handed down to me from my grandmother. It’s probably part of tea set but I have not found any other pieces like this to confirm that. It’s in excellent condition with no chips or cracks and only natural paint wear on the handles and at the top rim where the lid sets. What seems to be a paint blemish on the right side of the rim(see picture#6) appears to be White’s Art Co triangular stamp. It measures almost 3 inches tall. 5 inches wide from handle to handle, it has a 3 inch circumference top and a 3.5 inch circumference bottom. The porcelain blank was made by The Delinieres& Co from Limoges. France and the D&Co mark dates its manufacturing between 1894 and 1900. The intricate Gold painted roses in art deco ... morestyle were done by White’s Art Co of Chicago. The White's Studio of Chicago operated as a decorating Studio from 1914-1923 in downtown Chicago. During this era they produced hand painted wares that matched the great studios of the day including Pickard. Brauer, Donath, Osborne, and Stouffer. A number of their artists also decorated at the Pickard Studio, as well as other less known decorating studios. In fact, this piece looks very much like a Pickard piece but the famous red triangle mark of White’s Art Co proves otherwise. See Reed's Pickard Collectors Book for more information on this fine period studio(P.301-304) This beautiful piece glistens just like gold nuggets do in the sunshine though I have no proof that the paint actually contains pure gold. This listing is for a beautiful Limoges T& V creamer and sugar. The mark dates it from 1892-1907.It is a pale blue on top with light pink and ivory on the bottom. There are beautiful shades of yellow. Apricot, blue, green and a contrasting burgundy through the flowers and the leaves. The floral design is bordered on the top with a delicate raised design with curlicues. The handle and rims are gold. The creamer is 3" tall, the sugar 2 3/4" The set is in excellent condition with slight wear to the gold handle- as would be expected. One crucial piece of knowledege you need to know is that the vast majority of this porcelain artwork done by American porcelain artists was painted on blank white porcelain imported in from other countries, You had French Limoges porcelain, Bavarian porcelain(and Bavaria was its own kingdom from 1806 to 1918) German porcelain, Austrian-Bohemian porcelain and some came from Nippon(which is Japan) and other Far East Asian countries. The reason for this was the United States was still in its infancy when it came to porcelain production and the imported porcelain blanks were much less expensive to buy than our own American porcelain blanks in most cases. Because of this a common mistake is to attribute antique American painted porcelain as to being painted in the country on the backstamp. There was a law institued in 1891 by the United States requiring all goods imported into the U.S.A. to have the country of origin on it somewhere. The basket style sugar bowl suffered a break at the upper rim near one side of the handle but has been artfully repaired with only faint hairlines and a lingering chip to tell the tale. Most likely considered a sauce bowl with those gorgeous large handles but it could also be used as a large sugar bowl. The bottom is marked with Mark 6"Limoges France" Reference for this mark can be found on page 404 of The Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain. Third Edition by Mary Frank Gaston. This mark was found on most of the white ware that used by hobbyists during the Victorian era. The painting on the cover is divided into six sections with gold painted arches containing yellow cabbage roses with green leaves and vines. The painting, ... morein larger scale, is repeated in the six sections of the bowl. The cover handle is shaped to look like two leaves. This painter of this hobbyist piece left their initials and year on the bottom. T.W.D. painted in 1914. The approximate measurements are; 8 1/8 wide including the handles, 6" wide without, 3 3/4" tall to the top of bowl, 4" tall to the top of the handles and not including the cover, 4 1/2" tall with the cover. Condition: The bowl is in excellent antique condition with just minor loss of gold. This is to be expected from a 100 year old piece. The two leaves that make up the handle of the cover have small chips which were covered in gold making them quite inconspicuous. The 2-handled creamer measures 5" in length x 3 1/4" wide and the sugar measures 4 3/4" in length x 3" wide. The pieces are in very good vintage condition. The creamer seems to have been painted with a small hairline seen mainly from the inside(see second to last photo) The glaze was applied over the hairline so that is the way it came from the manufacturer. NEWLY REDUCED PRICE This sale is for a William Guerin limoges sugar and creamer set acquired from an estate. The pieces are"squat" shaped and can stack one on top of the other. The bodies of the creamer and sugar bowl and lid are white with gold trim; the handles on the sugar bowl. Lid and creamer are solid gold color. Very good condition- minor discolorations on gold handles- see last two photos. Both the sugar bowl and creamer bear a distinctive William Guerin backstamp; research indicates that this backstamp was used only between 1891 and 1930. A beautiful antique set at a great price!

I first want to explain that in the United States from the Mid 1870s until World War Two the biggest hobby in this country was painting on porcelain. Besides the amateur painters you also had professional painters. Professional porcelain decorating studios and ... moresome American poreclain potteries had their own decorating departments. One crucial piece of knowledege you need to know is that the vast majority of this porcelain artwork done by American porcelain artists was painted on blank white porcelain imported in from other countries, You had French Limoges porcelain, Bavarian porcelain(and Bavaria was its own kingdom from 1806 to 1918) German porcelain, Austrian-Bohemian porcelain and some came from Nippon(which is Japan) and other Far East Asian countries. The reason for this was the United States was still in its infancy when it came to porcelain production and the imported porcelain blanks were much less expensive to buy than our own American porcelain blanks in most cases. Because of this a common mistake is to attribute antique American painted porcelain as to being painted in the country on the backstamp. There was a law institued in 1891 by the United States requiring all goods imported into the U.S.A. to have the country of origin on it somewhere. Antique Limoges France Hd Pted IRIS Flower Porcelain Creamer & Sugar Set REDUCED
This is a beautiful hand painted porcelain creamer and sugar set with an Iris flower design. This set has gold trimmed handles and rims with gold relief around the main flower. Both pieces are artist signed on the front: A. Foix. The under glaze mark is a green coiffe-mark with Limoges in the middle of the mark and Limoges on top with France below. This mark is attributed to circa 1891-1914. The over the glaze mark is also present. The larger sugar measures 4- 6/8" from long side to long side& about the same from the base to the top of the handle. It measures 3-1/4" inside the handles. The creamer is 5-1/8" from spout to the outside of the handle. The height is 3-3/4" from base to top of the handle. The width inside the bowl from side to side is 2-1/2" I've been a collector of glass& china for 40 years ... moreand was an antique dealer for over 20 years. This set has been in my own collection& in a curio cabinet since purchased at an estate sale so many years ago. It is in very good condition.
