Limoges France(1860 to 1900) Hand Painted Open Sugar Bowl and Hand Painted Creamer(Cream Pitcher) Set with a Floral Pattern Consisting of Alternating Pink Roses& Purple Violets Sharing the same Stem and Leaf Pattern over a Gloss White Glaze Application Attributed to being Decorated in Limoges, France in"Excellent Plus" to"Near-Mint Condition" Used, Circa 1894 to 1900. I first want to explain that in the United States from the 1870s up until World War Two the biggest hobby in this country was painting on porcelain. You had amateur painters. Professional painters, professional porcelain decorating and painting studios and some American poreclain potteries had their own decorating ... moredepartments. One crucial piece of knowledege you kneed to know is that the vast majority of this porcelain artwork done by American porcelain artists was painted on blank white porcelain imported in from other countries, You had French Limoges porcelain, Bavarian porcelain(and it was its own state from 1806 to 1918) German porcelain, Austrian-Bohemian porcelain and some came from Nippon(which is Japan) and other Far East Asian countries. The reason for this was the United States was still in its infancy when it came to porcelain production and the imported porcelain blanks were much less expensive then our own American porcelain blanks in most cases. Because of this a common mistake is to attribute antique American painted porcelain as to being painted in the country on the backstamp. There was a law institued in 1891 by the United States requiring all goods imported into the U.S.A. to have the country of origin on it somewhere. Therefore we have an abundance of antique hand painted porcelain by Americans on blanks marked from another country. Two tones of purple violets on a background of a multi-tone natural golden amber colors in very good condition. Excellent condition-No cracks. Chips, fleabites or repairs. All pieces including the sugar dish lid have gold gilt which does show wear overall on all pieces. Both creamer and sugar dish are marked on the bottom in green with Hand Painted which is surrounded by a very detailed scrolling design. There is also a number on the bottoms of CY916 and an impression which is the mold marking of an underlined 1003. A 4 underneath that on the sugar dish and a 5 underneath the mold mark on the creamer. The sugar dish measures 3.75 inches tall with the lid on and is 4 inches diameter at it's widest point not including the handles. The mark on the bottom was used between 1898-1923. With the mark more prominent on the sugar bowl. Both pieces are in MINT condition with no chips, nicks, flea bites, cracks, crazing or paint loss. The colors are of peach roses done on a variegated background of mint green and darker shades of green, pale blue blending into a slate blue into a navy blue. Up for auction is this beautiful ceramic/porcelain creamer pitcher and sugar bowl. They are unusual in their shape and have finely painted detail accenting. There is no marking on the bottom. They have the look of Austria pieces and came from an estate with several other ceramic pieces that were from Austria. These are very beautiful, fine porcelain pieces with gold gilt trim. Sugar Bowl: 4 1/4" length by 3" width(base measurement) by 3 3/4" tall. Circa Late 1800s to Early 1900s. I first want to explain that in the United States from the Mid 1870s until World War Two the biggest hobby in this country was painting on porcelain. Besides the amateur painters you also had professional painters. Professional porcelain decorating studios and some American ... moreporeclain potteries had their own decorating departments. One crucial piece of knowledege you need to know is that the vast majority of this porcelain artwork done by American porcelain artists was painted on blank white porcelain imported in from other countries, You had French Limoges porcelain, Bavarian porcelain(and Bavaria was its own kingdom from 1806 to 1918) German porcelain, Austrian-Bohemian porcelain and some came from Nippon(which is Japan) and other Far East Asian countries. The reason for this was the United States was still in its infancy when it came to porcelain production and the imported porcelain blanks were much less expensive to buy than our own American porcelain blanks in most cases. Because of this a common mistake is to attribute antique American painted porcelain as to being painted in the country on the backstamp. There was a law institued in 1891 by the United States requiring all goods imported into the U.S.A. to have the country of origin on it somewhere. Possibly made around 1920-1935 right around late Victorian times. It is hand-painted with large pink roses in the front and a small one at the back. This Beautiful Porcelain Sugar Bowl is made by Nippon. And comes from Japan. It has wonderful Hand Painted Yellow and Green Floral, with gold trim. Sugar Bowl stands 4 1/4" tall and is 5 3/4" from handle to handle. Excellent Condition, with no chips or cracks. Maple Leaf Nippon Date Mark on the bottom dates this piece from 1891. Antique Hand Painted Porcelain Creamer& Sugar Set. Click picture to enlarge This is an antique Implerial PSL Austria creamer and sugar set. They have been hand painted and the sugar bowl is signed(H.L.17) This was most likely made somewhere between 1914 and 1918. The pieces have a hand painted delicate pink rose design around the sides. There is a gold line that winds around the pattern in an Art Deco fashion. The handles have rippled edges; like a flowing ribbon. They are heavily finished in gold. Which extends to the edges of each piece. The top half is white and the bottom has a pale bluish wash to it. They are both in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, paint or gold finish loss. The sugar bowl is 5" across handle to handle and 2 1/2" tall and the creamer is 4 1/2" wide x 2 3/4" tall. Sugar Bowl is approximately 4 1/4" L. 2 3/4" W and 2 1/2" T. Base is approximately 2 1/2" L and 2" W. There is a green stamp on the underside which is not legible. See photo. There are no chips. Antique Asian Oriental Hand-Painted Porcelain Creamer & Sugar Set Imari-style
This antique Asian/oriental creamer and sugar set is made of porcelain. Hand-painted in a style that looks like“Imari” with much of the decoration done in“rouge de fer” iron red colored glaze) and gold. From my research, I found that although Imari is traditionally considered a Japanese style, that was created in the town of Arita, and then exported to Europe from the port of Imari, Saga, there is Chinese Imari, too. Both Japanese and Chinese Imari usually have a prominent blue underglaze, and that is missing on these pieces, so, not being an Asian pottery expert, I cannot give an accurate description of the style, or age, of these pieces. I did, however, find a piece, on eBay, with a very similar style, that was called“Antique Chinese Oriental Imari. item# 311009198667) Both the creamer and the sugar bowl have hand-painted bird and flower ... moredesigns. With ornate gold detailing that includes a lot of spirals. Besides the gold and iron red colors, there are pinks, browns, black and yellow colors that appear to be overglazes. Inspecting the pieces with a magnifying glass, I found that the lidded sugar bowl has hairline cracks—one on the lid that runs across the diameter, and two on the neck of the bowl. The hairline on the lid goes through the porcelain, but, to my eye. It does not show signs of having been repaired; and those on the neck of the bowl are minor. In comparison, one being about 1 ½ inches long and in a“v” shape, and the other ½ inch long, but hardly noticeable. Happily, I found no damage on the creamer, except for some surface wear from use. The creamer measures about 3 ¾ inches tall by 4 ½ inches wide, and the lidded sugar bowl measures 5 5/8 inches tall by about 6 inches wide. The creamer and sugar have very similar designs, yet they appear to have two different signatures on their bottoms(see the photos) Even with the flaws on the sugar bowl, this antique Asian creamer and sugar bowl set, with its pretty flowers and little birds, is delightful. HAND PAINTED porcelain sugar bowl. The markings"THOMAS, BAVARIA, and then LA REINE the artist signed on the bottom and next to the handle on the bowl. This sugar bowl is from around the turn of the 20th century. 100 years old and not a single chip on it. Has normal wear. I fell in love with the beauty of the yellow roses and green leaves. They cluster on the front and back. And in a natural flow unto the lid. The gold handles on both sides of the bowl and one on top of the lid blend beautifully with the tan and brown background with gold trim on the top edge of bowl and the rim of the lid. This peace measures 3 ½” high. ... more6” wide, and 2 ¾” in diameter around the base. This has had a previous owner who took very good care of her collections. I can find no chips. Cracks or marks. Looks like normal wear. Any one interested in this pattern and would like me to keep looking for more, it would be my pleasure, I would love to find out more about this company. This piece measures about 6-1/2" at it's widest and about 4-1/2" wide in the perpendicular direction along the top. One crucial piece of knowledege you need to know is that the vast majority of this porcelain artwork done by American porcelain artists was painted on blank white porcelain imported in from other countries, You had French Limoges porcelain, Bavarian porcelain(and Bavaria was its own kingdom from 1806 to 1918) German porcelain, Austrian-Bohemian porcelain and some came from Nippon(which is Japan) and other Far East Asian countries. The reason for this was the United States was still in its infancy when it came to porcelain production and the imported porcelain blanks were much less expensive to buy than our own American porcelain blanks in most cases. Because of this a common mistake is to attribute antique American painted porcelain as to being painted in the country on the backstamp. There was a law institued in 1891 by the United States requiring all goods imported into the U.S.A. to have the country of origin on it somewhere.
