The main body of the wardrobe is about 20 1/2 inches deep but the serpentine face of the lower drawer extend an additional 3 1/2 inches. Everything about this piece has attention to detail.even the inside of the sizable storage drawer at the bottom has Birdseye Maple bottom panels.The three interior storage drawers share the same detail.The entire piece is simply covered in Birdseye Maple. Interior and exterior!The giant door mirror has been expertly beveled to match the detail trim of the door.it is original to the peace and has minimal silver loss.The back of the wardrobe has even been finished. It is quite presentable and can stand alone in the center of the room. The ... morecarved wooden detail has minimal loss and chipping. As seen in one of the many highly detailed photos, there is an old damage spot on the very top of the armoire. It appears as if there was a slight water leak above it at some point in its life. A somewhat newer hanging rod has been attached to the interior to allow for convenient storage of garments. The sides also have the"double- bombe" shape as well as front. Book-matched burled elmwood/ walnut veneer with scroll inlay design adorns all three front sections. Bonnet on armoire is of a serpentine design with carved scroll work. The 2 side doors open to reveal 2 adjustable interior blonde wood veneer shelves which can be removed. Center door opens to area where a wooden rod would have been suspended.rod missing but could easily be replaced. Armoire has 3 bronze rococo handles with key holes and 6 bronze hinges. Lock on left door has a separate key as its lock has been replaced at some point. The other 2 locks work with another key which ... moreis also available. Lots of storage possibilities. Armoire sections sit on raised splayed legs.total of 8 legs. The bottom apron below the doors also has a serpentine carved design. Center beveled mirror is in very good antique condition. Please look at all photos; note there is a slight separation in the wood/ veneer on lower bottom of center door which is evident but not unexpected in pieces this old; it could be dealt with by a furniture restorer or leave it as is let the natural aging be evident. Armoire"knocks down" into 2 side sections plus bonnet and several smaller pieces once top bonnet is removed so it can be more easily moved and maneuvered through doors and hallways. I have even had this armoire taken up winding stairs. Approximate overall size when assembled is 94 in. tall x 75 in. wide x 26.5 in. deep. Small-scale French armoire(6 feet tall. A little under 3 feet wide) in a warm walnut with gorgeous long, original iron hinge and scrolled lock hardware. The interior is lined with a bright vintage cotton- expertly tacked in by someone in the past. This fabric strikes people as either fun- or too psychedelic- if you would like it removed, we will do that before we ship or you pick up) The overall width and depth are for the cornice. 1850's Mahogany Pennsylvania Made Armoire That Measures 7'3"L X 7'5"T X 1'9"D
Up for your consideration is this Large Mirrored Early American Antique 1850'S Mahogany Armoire. This Unique piece was built in Pennsylvania and breaks down into five pieces that sit on knobs for easy transport. This piece was shipped to Atlanta which survived the Civil War. The Mahogany is rough in various areas but as you can see in the pictures with the use of triple a steel wool and a little work the rough areas are refined into the woods original finish. This piece was brought to Appalachiacola Florida in the early 1900's where it was stored away until 2010 at which time I obtained it at an estate sale. The two door mirror's were replaced and a little bit of work has been done to the wood to bring out the original Mahogany finish. The doors have been removed. Functional latch with 1 key. 87 1/2" high, 65" wide, 21" deep. Condition: excellent overall condition: good patina; no signs of recent damage or repair. Item located in west Miami. Is anyone who would normally look at our listings would know. We rarely buy anything French or for that matter anything outside of America. But this was a different story. When I seen it I admire the quality and the craftsmanship that went into making such a nice piece. Made of quartersawn solid white oak the beauty of the wood in itself is wonderful. We just completed a total restoration and the piece needs absolutely nothing. It is handcarved and has detail everywhere you look and everywhere you would want. I would say it is in impeccable condition especially for its age dating around 1872-1880. This handsome piece is constructed of Chestnut and features 3 slatted heart pine shelves on the interior. Crafted from fruitwood and mahogany, it features extensive and massive bronze mounts throughout by the French bronzier Emile Kahn, a leading bronzier working in France in the last quarter of the nineteenth century. Every kind of carving is artistic on this historic piece with columns. Shell and Gothic motifs. The old finish is very well preserved with golden patina and just enough mars at the edges for antique character. Waxed and polished, all that is needed to maintain its warm glow is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. The interior is 19" deep and empty.
