I believe it's English, based on its instructional tag: This Wardrobe when dismantled will pass the narrowest stairway or passage. Instructions: Unscrew cornice and plinth from inside of carcase. Hold the door. I can't be certain, but believe it likely dates to the early 1900s. I had too many photos to include one of the patent number(small tag nailed inside the drawer) which reads: PROVL.PAT.NO. 86004-20. The inside compartment has three hooks across the center back top. And one hook on each side. The drawer is dovetailed. The mirror has a simple bevel. My photos aren't the best- sorry- bad lighting. I think. It's a medium-dark oak. Beautiful! Condition: Overall. For it's age, I think it's in nice vintage condition with age-appropriate imperfections. I think it displays beautifully(and is superbly useful) By way of flaws: 1) the left side. Center, shows a split(where two oak panels meet) it bows out slightly. I don't think it's really distractive, but could probably be remedied by the handy; 2) there's a 2" x 1/2" chip on one side, near the back, relatively near the bottom- hard to see; 3) can't really see it, but the bottom skirt is angled a bit, with a small split on one side; 4) the mirror I think is totally functional and charming as is, but has spots of loss of silvering and minor imperfections; 5) in the drawer, you'll see there are wood support blocks(these came with this- I assume for the underside- that look supplementary supports) that probably could be glued into position for additional support(I haven't investigated; the closet seems fine as is) 6) the door handle has pulled a bit with a small break in the metal- still

The piece also features a beautiful parquetry inlay around the base of the molding, of alternating dark and light tones, but there are quite a few of these tiny pieces missing.

Condition: Used Location: Boca Raton, United States Offered for sale is a French Louis XV Style Carved Walnut Armoire that measures H 108" x W 55" x D 22" This beautiful armoire with 2 beveled ... moremirrored doors was made circa 1880's in France. It has an elaborately carved floral and scroll crown and sides. Below the doors is a carved drawer as shown in the photos. It stands on carved cabriole legs and scrolled feet. Three adjustable shelves come with the armoire. As with all antique armoires. Wood supports can be placed in any of the carved slots running the entire length of the piece inside. An option for repurposing this armoire is to strip the silver from the mirrors, leaving the original glass thus making the armoire a display cabinet. Unfortunately, someone has installed shelves within the armoire which are supported using contemporary "L" brackets. These could easily be removed, however, with little effort. I am unsure of the exact age or manufacture of the piece. It features a gorgeous crown molding around the top, for a majestic finished look. The piece also features an embossed carving of scrolling vines, capped with a shell motif at the top of the door. The mirror features a a one inch bevel around the perimeter.

American Federal Cupboard or Cabinet. Southern States, Probably Kentucky or Tennessee Early 19th Century c. 1820-40 Item# 130101QIP27 This is a striking piece in every regard. First and foremost. The sheer perfection found in the tight minimalistic landscape of this undistracted and restrained surface is unrivaled. Everything about the form is harmonious, the crown being distinctly angular and sharp, deep enough to cast a formidable shadow over the case while still remaining a small part of the form as a whole. The large case is cleanly divided into six parts by a craftsman clearly averse to using graduation in any portion of the piece. Using deeply chamfered panels set into rabbets in the through-tenon-mortise joined door frames, these opening easily over replaced brass hinges. Inside is a spacious shelved interior, again spaced at equal ... moreintervals with a large space for the bottommost shelf, avoiding the use of graduation. The effect is attractive, resulting in a stoic aesthetic so commonly associated with works of those states. On both left side doors. A tiny wooden catch is affixed to the inside of the door using a hand forged screw, allowing each of the doors to be locked shut; the opposite door has a small wooden knob external and a forged iron lock interior(absent on the lower door) the wooden knobs are likely purchased from a different shop or imported, as they appear to be of black walnut and the work of a skilled turner. They are, however, original to the piece and remain affixed with their original screws. The case is plain and devoid of embellishment. The sides single solid planks that stretch from the crest to the toe, the backboards vertically nailed in tight clean rows along both edges and the bottom. The crest is a separate piece screwed to the top of the case at equal intervals in deep wells. It is very difficult to make a well supported attribution to Tennessee; however, we feel fairly confident this piece originated in either Kentucky or Tennessee. This is a beautiful and stunning piece. A 1790-1800 French Wedding Armoire. Or Bridal Trousseau Armoire. This is a large piece, exceptional handcrafted carving. The sides and back are pine, the front, top, legs and doors are oak. Beautiful example of early French artistry in wood. Stunning patina in a reddish darkish brown which can only be attained with age. A father would have several pieces made for his daughter so that she could save not only her bridal clothes. But her gorgeous linens as well in these cabinets. These were all handmade in France. A daughter was to accumulate many sets of linens for her future wedding. Those with wealth accumulated dozens of sheets, tablecloths, linens for the furniture so one needed quite a bit of storage. The photos were primarily taken in full sunlight. Even though the piece is a dark stained oak it ... moretakes on a beautiful color with full light. It does appear that a new lock was installed. The brass hardware is original to the piece. Genuine French country antique. Wonderful rich patina with a clear wax finish. I purchased this cabinet in France many years ago and I have been using it for storage in an unfitted kitchen. I was told it was an old food cabinet. Reluctantly for sale due to kitchen remodel and shortage of space! The doors. Sides and front are all solid oak. There are splits on the left side of the cabinet. As seen in the pictures, due to contraction and expansion over the years with humidity changes. There are other hairline cracks as one would expect in a piece this size and age but it just adds to the rustic charm. Please look at the pictures carefully. The interior is lighter in color and has 3 adjustable newer pine shelves that sit in the wood grooves with metal braces. The bottom of the cabinet looks newer than the main body. The top of the cabinet. As ... moreviewed from above, has a couple of old worm holes and a 2 inch hole that can been seen only from the inside when you look up. The back of the cabinet frame is oak with old pine panels. Each door has a decorative metal vent. I do not know what type of metal it is but it has a dark patina. It measures 84" high. 50" top corner of cornice across. Almost 48" wide across flat front. 46" wide interior. 21" deep to top cornice. 20" deep outside flat. 18" deep inside. Hand carved of solid walnut in England. This hand crafted furniture disassembles for delivery. The original finish is well preserved with various touchups over the years. Waxed and polished. Only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to preserve its antique patina. There are minor mars at the edges plus shrinkage separations from age. This most unusual European walnut. And hardwood(pine secondary wood) miniature wardrobe with ebonized wood panels dates ca. 1860-1880 and measures only 23 ½” tall x 17” wide x 7 5/8” deep. It features a faded and worn original French Polish surface with some irregular coloration but a nice sheen. All of the wood with the exception of the inside shelves(added early 1900s) appears to be original and there is only the scantest trace of old(inactive) insect damage to the bottom. The tiny, turned bun feet are sturdy and without damage and the locks and latches are right as rain. You will note a very small corner loss in the veneer on the top back corner as per the pictures. This imposing Louis Philippe Armoire is crafted in solid oak. The Armoire comes completely flat and can be assembled in about 20 minutes. The armoire stands on ogee scroll feet and a cut out plinth. To the inside there are 3 shelves. One with a full width drawer and one having 3 drawers below it. The middle drawer has a lock but no key so I can put a button knob on this one if required. All this is enclosed with a pair of panel doors complete with decorative carving and molding. The left hand door is held shut with a simple sprung catch. While the right hand door closes on to it and is held shut with original working lock and key. Antique 19th century French Armoire from the Charente - Walnut - to restore - NR
This auction is for a 19th century French armoire for restoration. The armoire is made of what I believe to be walnut. I purchased this at an antique shop near Cognac in the Charente department of France about 10 years ago and had it shipped to the US as part of a load of inventory for an antique shop(since closed) that was located in Connecticut. It was a project piece that I intended to restore and then sell. Unfortunately. I never had the time to tackle this so I am putting this up for sale to someone who has the time and skill to restore this to its former glory(we used to sell these in restored condition anywhere between $6K& $12k) The photos tell do the best job of describing the condition- to summarize, there is no back(it was a piece of plywood when purchased and removed pending restoration) the crown and top(as well as the bottom) ... moreare missing and will need to be rebuilt, there is no lock on the doors and door on the right has has a slight warp to it(that someone has corrected by putting a piece of wood into the opening to make it close completely) the spanner beneath the doors was replaced at sometime with what appears to be matching wood but not carved to match the rest of the case, the left side is complete but has come out of mortise on the front column and will need to be reattached, finally, the right side bottom spanner is missing the bottom of the curved carved piece(see a photo of the left side bottom to get an idea of what is missing) If you have done this type of restoration project before then you know what is involved and how nice this will be when complete- it's a great project for someone with some skill and patience. Height from top to bottom is 84" Depth from front to back is 21.25" width is about 52" The doors are 48" wide by 71" high. The escutcheons measure 19" high by 1.75" wide. Due to the size. Here is a fabulous early 19th century French wardrobe with original hinges and lovely carving across the top above the doors including raised carved applique date of 1835. Imported to Charleston from France by it's current owner after he purchased it at a high end antiques store in Normandy. The finish particularly on the front doors is nice with lovely wood grains and the original long metal hinges holding the doors in place. It stands 78 inches tall and measures 60 inches wide and 28 inches deep front to back at the widest points on it's bonnet. Three Door English Arts & Crafts Armoire c. 1911
MAKE ME AN OFFER! This is a rare example of English Arts& Crafts utilizing the classic Linen Scroll design which was used liberally in classic English architecture and design. Here. It embellishes a triple-wide armoire that was made in England for an estate in Belgium. We bought this piece through an antique dealer in Vancouver, BC who told us the history, and who had purchased the item in Belgium. He told us the piece was made around 1911 or so. We had this piece in the master bedroom of our Spanish Colonial home and it worked very well, but now we have downsized and it's time to let it go. The armoire is solid oak. With hand-hammered and hand-forged hardware. I do not have the skeleton keys for the locks. The main compartment features a shelf along the top and brass clothes rod for hanging clothes and functions extremely well as ... morean extra closet. The left compartment features adjustable shelves and has two drawers at the bottom(see pictures) There are two issues I need to disclose. Neither of which detract from the beauty or presentation of this piece. The left-most door is slightly warped(we puchased it this way) probably from being in Vancouver which is very damp, and so a small portion of the top of the door does not close flush with the rest of the armoire by about 3/8 inch. Also, the top-left most panel of the same door has experienced some shrinkage, hardly noticeable. Other than that. The piece is in excellent condition for being over 100 years old. We suggest blanket-wrapped shipping, but please note that like all antique armoires, it disassembles to move through hard-to-navigate areas within one's home, so there should be no worries about moving a piece this big after purchasing. I am listing this item for a friend. It has some great Kalamazoo. Michigan History behind it. It was made by a local cabinet maker from the vintage hardwood doors from the long closed Nazareth College. As you can see by the photos, it is in beautiful condition. It is equipped with an interior light that turns on when the door is opened. It was most recently used as an entertainment center but was not altered in any way so it could still be used as an Armoire. It is very large measuring50 inches wide(55 at the crown) 86 1/2 inches tall and 24 inches deep. Because it is made of hardwood doors, it is very heavy and will not be shipped. Here is an absolutely gorgeous quartersawn oak carved wardrobe with finials. Much like the style of Eastlake, purchased through the estate auction of an old Charleston family member, so I'm not sure if it is American made or perhaps English. It is certainly late 19th century to early 20th century solid oak(primary and secondary) with lovely carvings and dentition across the top, a large clear beveled dressing mirror, dovetailed drawers, original old hardware and an incredible amount of storage space within a solid wood cabinet that's made to travel in separate smaller components(base, closet, bonnet) so it could be easily maneuvered through the traditionally smaller hallways and stairwells of those now antique homes. This wonderful large functional wardrobe stands 87 inches tall by 53 inches wide by 21 inches front to back. Offering ... morean amazing amount of storage in a gorgeous quartersawn oak cabinet. This terrific Victorian wardrobe has 3 large sliding shelves and 3 nice deep drawers on one side with open closet space on the opposing side, still equipped with cloak hooks affixed to the walls as well as a hanging rod across it's width, added later. LOUIS XV - STYLE FRENCH ARMOIRE - 1890-1910 Found by J Peterman
I wonder what wonderful tales it could tell us if only. Where its life began. We cannot say for certain, however, this armoire was said to have come from France before finding it's way to the U.S. and being drafted into service by the legendary retailer, Peterman, as a display cabinet. When we first saw it, it had rather indecorously been filled with piles of Peterman clothing in the midst of a shopping frenzy when they closed their stores years ago. We rescued it and brought it home to become a part of our eclectic collection of furnishings. It has taken a few re-locations in its stead since, but, alas, we're streamlining and must pass it one to someone else who will add new pages to it's story. We"placed" its twin a couple of months ago and the owner was so delighted that she sent us pictures of it in its new home! ... moreIts crown bears the wonderful carving that is the hallmark of the Louis XV design. As do the drawer front and front legs. It appears to be crafted of walnut and shines beautifully with a little polish. It has no key however the lock mechanism is intact and functional. While it does evidence the wear and tear of age, as do all of us that have experienced life to the fullest, it is still a lovely addition to any room and still quite capable of doing it's job of holding other treasures. It has mountings for a shelves(the latter not included as it wasn't when we bought it. There are some areas of wear on the mirrors(see photo) but these neither detract nor interfere with the mirrors' function, in fact, depending upon one's age, this can be an advantage. The top is completely closed and serves as a great place for display things. hats, florals, etc. Previous owner added supports to crown that are not visible unless you are looking down on the piece from above. Local Pick Up Only. Must be picked up by July 7 Thank you! Unbelievable Starting Bid We are moving! Offered for sale is a beautiful French Armoire.I believe 1800s but do not know antiques. I do believe that it is original. Measurements are 96" Tall 50" wide 19 inches deep. There is a drawer at the bottom and three shelves. It is sturdy. I see no structural defects. There is some fading and the normal wear you would expect from a piece this old. The mirror glass is the original My beloved Great Aunt Ruth passed at 102. Aunt Ruth lived each year to the fullest! It is my job to sort through her estate.this woman who loved to travel. Shop& start projects of all nature. I am not an expert but I try to represent every item I sell through research and photographs. I welcome any information you can offer!
