Please scroll down under this description for additional views. Two Victorian era 6" tiles from a pictorial fireplace surround. Both embossed A. E. TILE Co. LTD on the back. Bas relief facades, one tile shows a bearded man's head against an arched doorway and the other tile shows a foot on the top step of a stairway partially obscured by foliage. The mottle glaze has a bit of brown and a bit of pale celadon green against a white background- there is a bit of a rainbow luster to the surface. Both tiles have cement or grout on the edges and the glaze is crazed on both. The"foot on stairs" tile has glaze lose and chipping on the edge and a chunk out of the back. The"man's face" tile has chipping along the edge and a glaze chip on his forehead. These are new old stock that I found in our basement. The store I am renting used to be a fireplace and stove place and I think that these were for the surrounds. I don't know if they qualify as antique. But the boxes look pretty old. The backs of the tile say that they were made in Spain. The are actually really nice and I think unique. This auction is for a lot of twenty 3" x 3" x 3/8" thick dark blue glass tiles. I am not sure if they were meant to be used in stained glass decoration or masonry work? They are roughly made with numerous chips and nicks on the edge from how it was made. One has what appears to be a fairly large chips on the inside edge. They all have a randomly dimpled texture on one side and are smooth on the other. They have varying shades of blue with some swirls and bubbles in the glass. All twenty for one amount. Marked to the back"HR& J" for H& R Johnson established in 1901 and still in existence as Johnson Tiles. Also marked to the back"PATD No 12309" and"PATT No 185. Tiles 14.8cm square and 8mm deep. No.19I A wonderful pair of 2 English forest green glazed ceramic tiles with rosette and linear motifs. These green tiles were popular in England and America during the late 1800's. Both tiles are marked by the manufacturer and have an old untouched patina. They show signs of normal wear from age and use. They have very minor crazing and small chips as shown. Otherwise they are in very good antique condition. They were salvaged along with other period tiles from a South side Victorian home in Chicago and are guaranteed authentic as described. There are 21 original fireplace tiles all in various patterns of browns and creams. I am giving the opportunity to buy them as a single purchase as I think they will make a beautiful fireplace surround. Shower floor, splash back or table. Very hard to find matched male/female pair of Kensington Tile Co Victorian 6" X 6" tiles. Male tile slightly thicker than the female as shown in pix. He is 1/2" thick, she is just over 3/8" thick. Gorgeous golden/yellow color(pix don't do the color justice! brilliant glaze w/typical crazing to be expected for their age. Some very minor chips/scuffs as shown in pix(largest chip is right on the lower left corner of the female tile- two very minor/small nicks on her ear as shown and a slight nick on one of the locks of the male tile's hair. These measure 6" by 6" and are a very fine reproduction. Made with raised relief work and then the color is filled in giving it incredible depth and slight variation from tile to tile. I would describe the tile colors as gold(or tan) Navy, avacado green, terra cotta, and cream. Only 9 are shown, but there are definitely 10 tiles that you will receive. These would look great in sets of 5 on either side of your fireplace, spread out on a kitchen backsplash, or else in a set of 9 as a cooktop backsplash mural. These have been in my possession for a number of years, but never used. I don't remember what I paid for them, but ... moreit was much more than $49.00!
