Antique Architectural Three Tile Panel
Three Victorian architectural tiles. Which form a"flaming urn" panel, in shades of beige and brown. They are from a central Texas home, built in the 1880s. There is no manufacturer's mark. The two upper tiles are 6 x 6, and the bottom one is 6" x 5-5/8" Condition: there is an abrasion on the right edge of the top tile. As well as small chips on the underside corners of this same tile. On the left edge, there is a flaw, under the glaze. looks like a small bubble. not significant, but a flaw, all the same. There is fine crazing to the glaze on all of the tiles. Still very pretty. A very unusual original(antique) Art Nouveau press-moulded majolica tile measuring 6" x 6" The two-panelled design features two stylized graduated amber-caramel tulips surrounded by evenly spaced floating bubbles or perhaps it's snowing( The background is a toning light khaki-caramel colour. In fabulous overall condition. Some very tiny chips around the extreme edges only. All four corners were chamfered for fitting into furniture or a fireplace at the time of manufacture. Antique Copeland Arts & Crafts Pottery Tile Panel Signed Pre-Raphaelite 1728 #2
This is a stunning and very large hand painted panel tile depicting a young Pre-Raphaelite man with moustache. This piece is seriously well painted with bright colours. It is signed by the artist to the front LTJ and dated 1882. I do not know who the artist is but it is painted by a skilled hand. It is unmarked to the reverse. But as we have a similar tile listed, by the same hand, we assume it to be a Copeland example. It is in excellent condition. There are a few tiny glaze frits to the edge as seen in the images, a chip to the corner and a shallow slither chip to the other corner. It measures 41cm/ 16" tall and 20cm/ 8" wide. Antique Art Nouveau Arts & Crafts 2 tile panel #1067-1068 Peacock feather MINT!
A panel of two original(antique) Art Nouveau press-moulded majolica tiles. Each measuring 6" x 6" Probably part of a wall scheme of repeating motifs, of which this is one. The vibrant peacock-blue and burnt-orange stylized feather reminds me of an Egyptian papyrus fan. The central leaves are a light apple-green colour, whilst the stems and outline are a light mint green. The ivory background- which looks slightly more yellowy here and there due to the pooling of glaze and the natural variation from tile to tile- is ridged and has raised scrolling tendril-like motifs. Mint condition with no faults that I can see. Three of the corners have the very slightest of grazing from fitting into furniture at the time of manufacture. There is faint crackle-crazing due to age. Please see the detailed images(taken with a camera and not my usual ... morehigh-resolution direct scans because the tiles are currently mounted onto thin hardboard with PVA glue. This is how I mount my panels before I frame them, to prevent loose tiles from slipping out and falling. The PVA is a non-permanent fix and will easily remove from the tiles. I can do this before posting if the winning bidder would like me to. In the meantime, it isn't possible to photograph the tile backs! This tile panel is from my own collection. Easily postable. A run of three original(antique) Art Nouveau press-moulded majolica tiles. Each measuring 6" x 6" Probably part of a fireplace panel originally consisting of 5 tiles, but I've only ever had three. The only real sign that the original design is truncated is the small amount of sky-blue glaze right at the base of the second tile. Otherwise, the pattern of caramel-coloured leaves with their dimpled light apple-green background continues rather convincingly! The three bright sky-blue tulips are the stars of this panel, set off beautifully against the cream background.Great original condition with just some edge nibbles to tiles 1& 2, a larger top right corner chip to tile 3, 4 little surface chips each to tiles 2& 3. No cracks or other problems. There is faint crackle-crazing due to age. Antique Art Nouveau tile panel 12 tiles Swans true tube lined
Absolutely stunning and rare 12 tile art Nouveau Panel of two swans. The panel is made up of 6X6 tiles and is approximartely 12 inches high by 36 inches wide panel. 3/8 inch thick tiles. This item was found in Australia quite a few years back, and is almost certain a British tile manufacturer and would be late 1800's. The tiles are in excellent condition, minus one small chip that can be easily restored. No cracks, No breaks. Panels of this size and condition are exceedingly rare, and this one displays the height of Art Nouveau design. Please look carefully at the photos. Later typical Art Nouveau tiles are"dust molded" which is a mass production process that involves pressing a raw clay bisquit into a design that had been stamped into a dust mold. The earlier tiles used a technique called tube lining or squeeze bag. True tube ... morelined tiles also used a blank bisquit as the base. But the designs were applied to the flat surface of the bisquit by craftsmen, using a squeeze bag of clay slip to"hand draw" the design on the tile. The raised ridges formed by the dried squeeze bag clay slip created dams used for applying the glaze. True squeeze bag tiles are more desirable as they are not a mass produced product, and would show more variability from panel to panel. True tube lined tiles were also ususally produced in smaller quantities. Each tile will be bubble wrapped. Sandwiched in Foam, and the entire panel crated for shipment. I have been collecting art nouveau tiles for more than a decade, and am downsizing my collection. This panel is one of my favorites and in all my years of collecting I have only seen this design once, and bought it immediately. It pains me to part with something of such beauty and rarity.

Attractive VERY ELUSIVE and rare ARTS& CRAFTS 4 TILE PANEL. Each moulded 6" tile forming together CLIMBING FOLIAGE with CENTRAL BLUE FLOWER. encased in an OGEE SHAPE hence its name'OGEE' PATTERN. It was designed by L.F DAY a truly important and highly influential designer of his time and manufactured by PILKINGTON'S TILE& POTTERY CO. one of the great innovative potteries manufacturing wonderful BRITISH DECORATIVE ART during the 19th and 20th centuries. All in all a superb partnership! The flower is a gorgeous BLUE with dark yellow STAMEN, fabulous green foliage all shaded to give depth A delightful panel! One I have never found before in over 20 years. Not to be missed! This same design. Can be found in the PILKINGTON EXHIBITION CATALOGUE OF 1902. I have included a scan of the page as well as a scan of the design ... moretaken from another Pilkington catalogue. Condition is good especially for something so rare to find. There are the odd scratches but the panel displays well and it is certainly well worth having until another comes along in perfect condition although it could be a long wait! No chips. Or cracks. The surface glaze is fantastically bright and very shiney. Crazing commensurate with age. Makkum Tile Panel, Gentleman w/Sword, Holland
A beautiful and unusual set of 6 tiles that form a picture. Or panel, when laid down together. Each tile is 5" square and I've shown the panel arranged flush with no spaces between the tiles, and again with about a 1/8" spacing. The tiles are marked on back with a sort of crown and the"Makkum" and" Holland" as seen in last photo. It looks as though the tiles were at one time laid down with glue or mastic as there is a light residue on backs, but no mortar. The tiles are a glossy black and the design is hand painted. In very good condition, no cracks or chips, a couple of tiny nicks at corners. I don't know the age on these. They would be lovely as the center of a tile table, or framed as a hanging or wall inset.
