Antique Vintage Mosaic Tile Company Blue Ceramic Wall Heater 1920's
This electric wall heater was removed from a home that was built in the 1920's. I'm not sure if it was working when removed. Since the power was already cut to the house. It appears that th e small filaments are broken that run through the ceramic. So I'm thinking that it would need to be repaired to actually be used a s a hea ter again. However. I have seen folks take out the heat ing element and make a recessed magazine holder out of them. There is a metal grate that fits into the openings o f these units. And it is missing on this one. The cover is made of 2 large tiles that fit tog ether. And they are in great shape with no cracks and just a few tiny chips near one of the mounting holes. There is just some discoloration from where the wire grate sat. And there is also some color variation in the glaze. These'MTC' pieces ... moreof that time had a bit of variation in the color which makes for a hand-glazed look. The f inish is matte. The chrome around the control knob is rusty. But the knob itself is in great shape with no chips or cracks. Dimensions are: co mplete cover size is 18"L X 15 1/4" W-housin g front is 17"L X 14 1/4"W-housing depth is 3" Thanks for looking. LOOKS TO HAVE A HANGER TYPE TINY HOLE IN THE BACK JUST ABOVE THE IMPRESSED MOSAIC TILE CO COJOINED MARK. NO CHIPS CRACKS REPAIRS. IT WEIGHS NEARLY 4 POUNDS. THOSE WHITE AND BROWN SPOTS ON ITS SURFACE AND DARKER ONES ON THE LIONS BODY ARE INTENTIONAL TO GIVE IT AN ANCIENT LOOK. THESE WERE NOT DONE AFTER ITS MAKING. For sale: A Vintage MOSAIC TILE Company Zanesville OH Arts& Crafts Marlin Fish tile. The piece measures just over 4 1/4 by 4 1/4 inches. The back is signed with the makers information. This is a great design and the chips actually sort of look good and match the design. If you look at the rim and edges you will see that there are many chips on the sides. Set of 16 antique American Columbia Encaustic Tile Company tiles decorated with a lovely earth green glaze and flowers in relief. Circa 1890s. MEASUREMENTS: each tile measures 6x6 inches and is about 1/2 inch thick. LET’S TALK CONDITION: Overall very fine condition for the age with typical glaze crackling with only a few tiles with cracks on the back still very sturdy. There are some chips on a few tiles but that is on the back one tile has a small chip to the corner visible from the front and a couple of tiles have small flakes to the glaze on the front. Most all the old grout and adhesive is gone but some remnant is still attached. Signed on the back“Mosaic Made in U.S.A. The Mosaic Tile Company was in Zanesville. OH and made tile between 1894-1959. According to Mosaic Tile Company records found online. They began producing pastel matt glazed tile in 1922. Found at an estate sale hanging as decoration. These tiles have never been set. Each tile measures 4.5" square x 1/4" thick. The tiles are in great vintage condition. Although need a cleaning* mainly along the sides and back of the tiles. In attempting to clean one of the tiles.
