Antique Erotic Art Pottery Tile Minton King Arthur Series Guinevere Moyr Smith
This tile is not signed by the Minton Company however it has all the characteristics of a Minton tile. It does have the name of the artist- Moyr Smith. This is one tile in a series called the King Arthur series and the name Guinevere is along the lower section. It is in good condition however the photo will show a small chip on the margin lower right. This is a nice tile in the art nouveau- arts and crafts style. It is 6 by 6 inches by almost a half inch thick. There is a slight residue of grout leading me to think it was perhaps used around a fireplace or a border above the wainscoat.

ANTIQUE. VICTORIAN, RECLAIMED, MINTON, CERAMIC TILE Attractive Minton tile with a central bloom surrounded by a floral and scrolled design. That repeats in each quadrant, in shades of red on a cream background Back of tile. Which has five horizontal ribs, is clearly marked MINTONS over CHINA WORKS over STOKE ON TRENT over MADE IN ENGLAND. The trade mark globe is partially obscured with bonding/fixing. But it has the word MINTON in the central band and STOKE upon TRENT in an arc over the globe and WALBROOK LONDON in an arc under the globe. There is also a printed number 2663 this is preceded by a mark that is not readable. Marks probably date the tile to the early 1900’s. Tile is about 6 1/16 inches(154mm) by 6 1/16 inches(154mm) by 3/8 inch(10mm) thick Tile weighs about 15.5 oz(439 grams) The tile is not cracked. The front is evenly crazed ... moreand the top edges are in good condition. There are two narrow bands across the tile where the pattern has been locally& partially erased, but this happened during manufacture as it is all under-glaze– the crazing in the glazing can clearly be seen over the erased areas. There are also three very, very small black marks, but again these occurred during manufacture as they are under the glaze and are so small they hardly show in the photos. Back of tile is relatively clean. There are two edge chips, but one of these happened during manufacture, as it is under-glaze. Neither extends through to the front edge– see photos. 2" Antique MINTON HOLLINS& CO Fireplace Relief Tile 1860-1890 Victorian Moulded This is a lovely little tile from Minton. Hollins& Co. Circa 1860s-1890s. It is a brown/taupe relief tile from a fireplace. It features a pretty pinecone-like design. This tile bears an impressed circular insignia on reverse: MINTON, HOLLINS& Co. Inside of the circle is the number 2I2 with EB beneath. There is a P outside the circle on the right bottom corner and a X sign in the lower left corner. In 1845. Herbert Minton took Michael Daintry Hollins into partnership. And the tile-making side of the business became known as Minton Hollins& Co. Herbert Minton's successful experiments in making encaustic tiles during the 1840s( Encaustic tiles are ceramic tiles with a decoration made of different colours of clay inlaid into the surface. Unusual Antique Minton Hollins Tile Paperweight Fort Bombay India c1905
Unusual little antique pottery paperweight from the tile manufacturers Minton Hollins& Co. Royal cipher to the front and an interesting backstamp indicating that this was probably made as a gift to customers from the sole agents for MH&Co's tiles in the Bombay Presidency in India- Warden& Co Fort Bombay. Also on the back says by special appointment to His Majesty- so almost certainly Edwardian in date- would tie in with the Art Nouveau decoration! Seeing the pics it is obvious that this has seen a lot of use(if not abuse! in its life but still an interesting- and probably quite rare- item for collectors of Minton& Hollins tiles. This wonderfully decorative tile measures approximately 6" x 6" and features a stunning block printed Gothic design much in the manner of Augstus Pugin! Marked on the verso with the Minton stamp. It is in good antique condition with minimal age wear- there are a few minute pips to the glaze at the edges and maybe the odd corner rough patch, but this does not detract at all and is only mentioned for ebay accuracy(see photos) it really is a STUNNER! The design has an oriental theme with a dragon accented with florals and vines. In excellent condition considering age with no cracks or repairs. Normal glaze crazing and minor age wear to corners.
