Victorian Mintons China Works Pictorial Monochrome Tile c1880 This is a lovely Victorian Mintons China Works ceramic tile c1880 The tile is a black and white(monochrome) pictorial print of a woman hand feeding rabbits or hares in her yard/ garden. The tile is highly detailed with great contrast. This tile is one of a set of eight and is from one of Mintons earliest picture series, which was first produced in the 1850's and echoes the works of Sadler and Green. The verso is is fully marked: MINTONS CHINA WORKS STOKE ON TRENT Shown below. The verso also has the Minton globe mark. Shown below. Size: 6" 15.2cm) x 6" 15.2cm) 1cm depth approx Condition: No cracks to the tile. There are some chips to the front and verso of the tile. See close up photos below. This is an unusual Victorian tile made by Minton Hollins. Stoke on Trent. The central circle has a maritime scene of a dismasted sailing ship in a heavy sea. This is printed in black on a cream ground. The surround is printed in blue and white and has a basketweave effect surrounded by a rope. The tile is 6 inches square and in good condition. VERY RARE Victorian pictorial tile / plaque National School Hunslet Leeds, 1843
EXTREMELY SCARCE large original early Victorian pictorial tile depicting the National School. Hunslet 1843(Leeds, Yorkshire) The tile also has the name of Victorian architect Robert Dennis Chantrell(1793-1872) who designed many churches& public buildings in West Yorkshire in the Classic& Gothic styles. This large feature tile was probably fitted originally in a washstand splash-back or perhaps a tea-pot stand- it is glazed to the back without any evidence of glue etc. so has never been affixed to a wall. It is approximately double the size of a regular tile and measures 8.5 inch x 5.5 inch. It has one very old hairline from the right edge but this is stable and doesn't compromise a great item or affect it visually. Description Vintage Georges Barbier 1914 Decorative Ceramic Tile Trivet"N3. Costume de Yacht" Famous French Illustrator, lived from 1882 to 1932. This came from an upscale Nashville estate. Beautiful ceramic tile with scene of sharply dressed lady in striped skirt and red jacket. Blue scarf. Her yacht is in the background. She's taking a look around with her spyglass. There are grape clusters on one side and birds flying around. On the right hand corner, there is the name G. Barbier 1914. This tile is marked on back 06 W. Germany. It's in very good condition. Butterfly, Blossoms, Berries, Fancy Fleur-de-lis, and Scrolls on Light Yellow Background. A. Lordereau was an Exhibitor at the 1878 Paris Exposition Universelle(Universal Exposition or Paris World Fair) and Received Honorable Mention. The Glaze has Crazing and the Raised Surface Areas have Fine Scratches with Soiling as Seen around the Pictorial Patterns.
