Very pretty and unusual subject TRANSFER PRINTED in brown on cream 6" tile. Depicting a MEDLAR FRUIT? A fruit favoured in MEDIEVAL times) set within a star shape and surrounded by a very attractive swirling foliate border. Manufactured by SHERWIN& COTTON 1870-80's. Design No. 651 is stamped on the reverse, along with the well known embossed rope knot within the triangle. Condition is very good. One small glazed over manufacturing nick RH corner, another bottom L H corner, and an edge nicks. to top RH side but nothing to detract. No cracks, rubs or scratches. The surface glaze is extremely brilliant, very bright and shiney. The transfer print is very thickly applied, so that the lines are raised. Antique German Tile Fruit Basket and Bows
This gorgeous tile is very textural and you can feel the apples. Potatoes, plum, pear and grapes, as well as the weaving on the basket. It is in excellent condition, If I hold it to the side, I see a few tiny scratches, but nothing you wouldn't expect for a hundred year old tile. It measures just under 6" on each side and it is just short of 1/2" thick. It's a real beauty. There is a hook securely taped on the back. Shipping is according to zip code for priority mail.

It is made of white clay, the transfer printed is dark blue, and there is a glaze over top. Circa 1880.
