The sale is for 1 architectural faience tile by one of France’s leading 19th century tile makers. There has been a book written about Loebnitz tiles and they adorn palaces and significant building in France. These are from a fireplace surround. There are 10 listed. It measures approx. 5-3/4" wide x 11-7/8" long and 2-1/2" deep. They are signed"J Loebnitz. Paris(F) on the side also with a J and an X. They have a highly raised design and are 2 different shades of a dark green. They are in very good condition with slight imperfections expected from 120+ year-old tiles.

This is a vintage/antique tile. Made by the American Encaustic Tiling Co Ltd, Zanesville, Ohio(also showroom in New York) They were in business from 1875 to 1935. This tile is pictured on Plate 47 E in the catalog of American Encaustic Tiles shown on oldhouseauthority.com. It is embossed and is a pale buff color, showing a Grecian style woman holding a tambourine high over her head. I think it would be considered"Faience" there is no shiny glaze. The tile is framed, the size framed is about 8/2 x 20 1/2 inches. The tile itself measures 6 x 18 inches. Please see pictures for condition; overall I think it is in very good condition. The back has two chips on the edge(see pic) and there are some little nicks on the front near the feet. Is hand potted in coarse red earthenware(terracotta) and hand painted with floral foliate design in cobalt blue, yellow, green, russet and black over a cream white glazed ground. This lovely little tile has some black markings to the back but we cannot make them out and could be just accidental kiln firing marks. CONDITION It is in good condition but does have old crackle in the glaze and a small glaze flake nick to the edge. Antique Tile - Peacock - American Encaustic Tile Co. - Faience - Orig. Bought RI
This antique tile was made by American Encaustic Tile Co. AETCO) It shows(I think) a wonderfully-colored peacock with spread tail feathers. The tile measures 6 1/4" square. n the background. There is crackling- but I do not know if it happened naturally or was put there on purpose. I think the latter. The peacock is beautifully decorated with many colors and the edging is blue and dark green. On the back, we can see the AETCO Faience mark. Also, there is X T/PA- probably indicating where it was made. The very thin plate is where the tile was first purchased- Cull& Williams, Washington St. Providence, RI. The plate is loose- about 1/2 of it is lifted- easy to re-glue. A really fine tile!

Butterfly, Blossoms, Berries, Fancy Fleur-de-lis, and Scrolls on Light Yellow Background. A. Lordereau was an Exhibitor at the 1878 Paris Exposition Universelle(Universal Exposition or Paris World Fair) and Received Honorable Mention. The Glaze has Crazing and the Raised Surface Areas have Fine Scratches with Soiling as Seen around the Pictorial Patterns.
