A fabulous VICTORIAN POLYCHROME TRANSFER PRINTED FLORAL 6" tile. Depicting a BRANCH OF LILAC. All hand painted under glaze in fantastic delicate colours. Manufactured by T.G& F BOOTH in 1880's- 90's. The reverse is stamped with the the pattern no.1535 Condition is very good. Top LH corner and bottom RH corner have been cut when originally put into a piece of furniture such as a washstand. A few surface marks barely visible to naked eye. The border is patchy but this is in the print itself. No chips. Rubs, cracks or scratches. Displays beautifully. Crazing commensurate with age. A rare polychrome Malkin Edge tile from the'Sports and Pastimes' series. It measures 15cm square and has been handpainted underglaze in shades of pink. Green, blue and brown. It depicts two medieval figures playing a game of marbles. Good condition throughout with one small chip to top right-hand corner. There is a chip on the back of the tile(top edge) mentioned for total accuracy as it obviously does not show. Surface in good condition with no rubbing/wear and no staining. Unmarked to reverse.
