Brown and Green on a Cream Background. Circa 1890-1910. They are stamped'England' on the back. They measure approx. 6-1/16" x 6-1/16" x 3/8" thick and then the pyramids stick up. Vintage Antique Set of Four Floor Wall Tiles Concrete Cement Encaustic?
Here is a set of four vintage floor/ wall tiles. Each tile measures 6 5/8" x 6 5/8" square. Is about 5/8" or so high, and weighs about 3 lbs. Believe they are cement or concrete. Each tile does have one area of damage where a piece of the tile has chipped off(I have shown these areas in the pictures) There is concrete/cement residue left on the back of some as these were salvaged pieces. There is a similar mark on the back of all four, but I have been unable to identify this maker. I don't know if these would be consider encaustic tiles or not. Hello I am selling our three JOSIAH WEDGEWOOD& SONS- ETRURIA Blue Bird tiles which are 8" x 8" x 3/8" thick. They are generally in very good condition but one pheasant has a very very slightly stained/crazed area behind its tail and a very small chip in the corner These are very nice tiles which would look well incorporated into a kitchen wall or worktop or a larder. I have for sale. A large collection of various antique tiles. I'll be listing them. In the order that they come to hand, over the coming weeks. I generally do my listings on a Sunday- there will be some particularly interesting ones, in future weeks. Just a few in each lot. To stay within Post Office's"Small packet" limits, to keep postal costs down. This will also make it easier to wrap them safely for transit. I'll let the pictures do the description. Mostly, but will add any info that isn't obvious. I'm not one of those sellers who describes everything as"beautiful" or"wonderful" or indeed. art noveau" when it isn't! However, I have a good deal of enthusiasm for old tiles, so I'll mention why I like particular ones. Some of the tiles have pencil notes on. From the owner having ... moredone some research, as to factory of origin- I'll pass those on, but have no idea if they're right! Tiles are 6" by 6" And about 3/8" thick, unless I say different in the specific description, below- Pair of French wall-tiles- a repeating pattern both horizontally and vertically. I'm assuming wall. Because of the elegant pattern, but wear to the glaze, on one tile more than the other) might suggest they were in a floor. Not only the painting, but also the outlines, are hand-done, under-glaze or in-glaze. Tin-glaze, rather than English lead-glaze. Some chipping round the edges- it's no easy job, chiselling delicate tiles out of cement! I can't read the company details on the reverse, but definitely French. Postage at cost in UK. £2.80.
