ANTIQUE DELFT CASTLE TILE For sale is one beautiful Dutch Delft tile decorated with a house. Well and ships in the background. The tile is framed with a newer Dutch oak tile frame. As often occurs with these tiles, there are some chips, and dings mostly covered by the frame. Noticeable outside the frame is one chip on the side and a one on the top. There is no maker's mark. The tile measures approximately 5" X 5" and the frame dimensions are 6 1/2" X 6 1/2" I am also selling a similar tile from the same time period under a different listing. Measurements: Tile is approximately 5" X 5" and outer frame dimensions of frame are 6 1/2" X 6 1/2" Age: Based on my research. I believe the tile dates sometime between 1690-1790. Antique Victorian English Floral Tile Sherwin & Cotton - unusual glaze Lustre ?
Up for auction is a striking Victorian tile. Made by Sherwin& Cotton. The tile has a bold floral pattern across the whole tile surface in a reddish brown colour on a dark background which has a purple colouration but in sections looks almost black. This darker glaze is inconsistent across the tile appearing more purple in nature towards the tile edges. There is a lustrous quality to the glaze when it catches the light. This is an unusual majolica glaze tile showing a basket with the national flowers of England. Scotland, Ireland and Wales. The tile is unusual in that the basket and the flowers are intaglio. that is pressed into the surface rather than raised. J C Edwards Ruabon unusual tile Music - Walter Crane
An unusual moulded J C Edwards of Ruabon tile depicting a classical male semi-naked figure playing pipes or a flute. It is probably part of a series. This one depicting'Music' which is moulded in the top right-hand corner. This is reminiscent of Walter Crane designs but I have not come across it before and I have only come across Voysey as a known designer for J C Edwards. The tile measures 15.5cm square and is glazed in a lilac colour. It has minor'nibbles' to top and side edges and two chips to bottom right and left-hand corners. I have pictured it in a frame to show that the chips can be completely hidden and will sell with or without the frame. Various moulded marks to reverse as shown. Unusual Handmade Antique Clay Tile
I have had this tile for many years. It measures 4" x 4 2/16" and is 5/16" thick. There is slight age crackle and a very tiny flake off the bottom left corner that is difficult to see. The glaze almost looks like enamel and is glossy. It is in excellent condition other than what I mentioned. Buyer please pay within 2 days of auction end. This tile was made by Minton Hollins. Stoke on Trent as part of a series of tiles showing Chinese Scenes. There were 4 tiles in the series with design numbers 92 to 95. This tile is No. 95 `Chinaman on horseback`. It is 6 inches square and is in good condition.There is a very tiny nibble about 1 inch up from the bottom left corner and another on the corner. These are very small. The back has the Minton Hollins marks.

A rare original(antique) Art Nouveau press-moulded majolica tile measuring 6" x 3" This lustrous and vibrant emerald green tile has three large. Raised, spear-like buds in an unusual khaki colour, with glorious little sky-blue forget-me-not flowers peeping through behind them. Virtually mint condition. When turned to a strong light source, the very slightest of surface rubbing is visible along the extreme upper and lower edges, and even less so to the high central points of two of the buds. Fine background crackle-crazing due to age. The rear is marked: A.M. ENGLAND' 6' and has a rectangular arrangement of 6 raised dots. This tile is from my own collection. Easily postable. Unusual Arts & Crafts handpainted tile decorated galleon at sea
An unusual tile with typical Arts& Crafts design of a galleon at sea handpainted in blue on a grey crackle-glazed ground. It measures 15cm square and is covered in a thick crystalline type glaze which is matt in finish. Apart from a manufacturing flaw where there is a glaze frit that has adhered to the surface it is free from any damage. Overall crazing commensurate with age. There are various marks to the reverse. None of which I can identify. There is a'P' in the centre of the tile between'MADE IN and ENGLAND' but this is not the Pilkington factory mark. An unusual original(antique) Art Nouveau press-moulded majolica tile measuring 6" x 6" I have never seen this design before in over 15 years of collecting Art Nouveau tiles. The soft apple-green flowers. With reddish-brown centres, in white spade-shaped cartouches on light turquoise stems look just like pairs of jellyfish propelling themselves through water(or is it just me? The plain quarters are a glowing peacock-blue/emerald green which I am afraid my new scanner has made to appear rather dull. Great overall condition with just some light rubbing to the high pattern outline and a few surface scratches seen when turned to the light. Unusual Antique English Fire/stand Tile Kite Boy Reg Diamond Simpson 1881 Stoke
Unusual and decorative fire(or more probably for a washstand) tile featuring a little semi naked boy(I think) flying a kite. The tile has the name T A Simpson Stoke on Trent printed to the reverse and also a Registration diamond which dates it to 1881. The tile is in good overall antique condition- some fritting to the edges. A small chip to the back edge of the top, a small nip to the surface(follow boys head diagonally to the tram lines) some wear and scuffing and some shallow pitting to the surface particularly to the lower half. Unusual little antique pottery paperweight from the tile manufacturers Minton Hollins& Co. Royal cipher to the front and an interesting backstamp indicating that this was probably made as a gift to customers from the sole agents for MH&Co's tiles in the Bombay Presidency in India- Warden& Co Fort Bombay. Also on the back says by special appointment to His Majesty- so almost certainly Edwardian in date- would tie in with the Art Nouveau decoration! Seeing the pics it is obvious that this has seen a lot of use(if not abuse! in its life but still an interesting- and probably quite rare- item for collectors of Minton& Hollins tiles. This is an interesting hand painted Victorian tile with a picture of Kate Greenaway girls seated on a fence. The tile is signed at the bottom left corner with EBB 1880. The back of the tile has the Minton Hollins factory marks. It is difficult to say whether the tile was decorated in the factory or by a gifted amateur on a Minton Hollins blank. This tile was made by the Minton Factory. Stoke on Trent. It has an unusual pattern printed in black on a white ground. The pattern shows various exotic fruits and foliage.The tile is 6 inches square and in good condition. The bottom left corner has been slightly shaped. The back of the tile is shown in picture#2

Unusual tile MEDLAR FRUIT TRANSFER PRINT by SHERWIN 1870's
Very pretty and unusual subject TRANSFER PRINTED in brown on cream 6" tile. Depicting a MEDLAR FRUIT? A fruit favoured in MEDIEVAL times) set within a star shape and surrounded by a very attractive swirling foliate border. Manufactured by SHERWIN& COTTON 1870-80's. Design No. 651 is stamped on the reverse, along with the well known embossed rope knot within the triangle. Condition is very good. One small glazed over manufacturing nick RH corner, another bottom L H corner, and an edge nicks. to top RH side but nothing to detract. No cracks, rubs or scratches. The surface glaze is extremely brilliant, very bright and shiney. The transfer print is very thickly applied, so that the lines are raised. Would look fantastic in any collection of tiles especially for collectors of VICTORIAN FLORAL TRANSFER PRINTS or simply framed on its ... moreown as a DECORATIVE ARTS object.
