Hello. I am offering this very special Circa 1910 chip carved miniature salesman sample cabinet. The piece is highly detail with carvings and tuned spindles in a Jacobean or Gothic style. The two side doors are hinged and the middle one sides, it is possible there were two sliding door? The wood is chestnut and the piece measures 10 1/4" high 9 1/4" wide and 4" deep with moldings. Antique Carved Wood Shelves, Angels, Lions, Crown, Serpents Spanish, Late 1800s?
Antique Carved Dark Wood Wall Shelves Piece. Angels, Lions, Crown, Serpents I got this in Dallas. Texas in 1985. I'm not a dealer or antique expert, so I'll do my best to describe this amazing piece. The pictures will probably tell the story better than I can. At it's widest point. It's 5' 11" across. Without the crown. It's 3' tall. With crown it's 4' tall. An old sticker on the back mentions"EXPRESO VILLALONGA" this appears to be a South American transportation and freight company. Which may mean this piece originates somewhere in South America, but I cannot be certain. Further research leads me to speculate that this piece may be Spanish, late 1800s. I don't know the age of this piece and I don't know the type of wood— there may be more than one type of wood used. While the piece ... moredoes have two metal hanging pieces. I added two more because this piece is heavy and I always made sure it was hung from studs. There is some damage to this piece and I have made some repairs which you can see in the pictures— see the angel's wings. For example. I've also tried to show some of the chips and gouges in the pictures. The structure is solid, but there are some areas on the backing panels that appear damaged by woodworms(I've captured this in one of the pictures) There does not appear to be any active, current activity by wood eating insects! I am not a professional or expert regarding antiques. I've described as best as my knowledge allows. Please feel free to ask questions and request additional pictures before you bid. Here is a wonderful sewing box on feet. It has 5 panels carved to represent short stories from Hans Christian Andersen. It measures 27” tall. 22” wide, 16” deep and is 41 ½” tall open. The top is“The Ugly Duckling” The front is“The Little Mermaid” the back is“The Butterfly” I believe) and either side has“Jack& The Beanstalk” and“Jack The Dullard” I believe) The scenes on this piece are outstanding. I believe this piece to be turn of the 20 th century. It has a great oak exterior and two interior sliding shelves. One has burl covers on it. There is some damage to the area around 1 hinge and an old repair to the wood top in that area as can be seen in the photos. Currently that hinge is loose as the screws won’t hold. There are some splits to the oak as can be seen. The piece is very sturdy and very much solid. It is not loose or wobbly ... morein any way. I assume this to be one of a kind as I have never seen anything remotely close to the wonderful character carvings on this piece. To have them on every side of the stand makes it a show piece from any angle. I could only post 12 photos on Ebay but I will take many more and send them to you if you want.
