Original Antique Oak Post Office This huge post office is from late 1800's to 1875. It was made by Georgia Showcase Co. The owner purchased it from Atkins. Alabama. It is made from the quatersawn oak. Frame measurements are over 37 feet wide and 71/2 feet high. The depth of frame is about 5" wide. It contains original brass lockboxes or mailboxes. I counted 360 Brass mailbox doors. About 8 doors have missing glass or inserts. Check out the Teller windows which also includes a Notary Public. This is a rare and beautiful quarter sawn tiger oak mirror with original hat hooks. And in very good original condition considering the age. Original mirror, beveled glass, Overall dimensions 28" tall by 36-1/2" Wide; the mirrored area is 23-1/2" wide x 19" tall. Some of the silvering is gone from the back of the plate glass that is the actual mirror itself and you can see dark blotches in the back. Typical of an 1800's piece. There are also a few imperfections in the mirror glass, a sign that the glass itself is original. There are also a few marks from wear on the wood and glass, which you would also expect from a mirror of this age. The lower middle 2 hat hooks are available(and shown) but the mirror will need to have a minor repair to install both hooks(but all pieces are there) The wood veneer covering the back ... moreof the frame is old and irregular as you can see from the photos. A great piece to accessorize the true antique collection. Beauty. Rarity, and functionality all rolled into one item. This stand is adjustable in several ways. height. Direction, thickness of book, open/closed position. The oak support leaves are nicely grained with tiger stripes. The aged finish on the cast iron adds interest for some collectors and screams" paint me" to others. The post and some of the hardware is copper plated and would be best cleaned up. No cracks, missing pieces, or repairs.
