Antique Scandinavian spinning wheel signed,O.Trageton,in spinning codition
I am selling one of my treasures. A Scandinavian spinning wheel. Designed and crafted by O. Trageton, a Norwegian who lived from 1845 to 1915. He never immigrated to this country, but many of his wheels did. Because the signature was so clear, I assumed that it would be a simple matter to find out all about the maker, but it wasn’t. A prominent spinning wheel expert knew only that O.Trageton made spinning wheels, and nothing more. A lady in California referred me to the University Of North Dakota Research Library Archives, and a very helpful archivist found four pages of material on Trageton, all in Norwegian. He in turn referred me to a translator. That translation, which cost me $75.00, will be shipped with the wheel. The wheel is about 36” high and long, and the drive wheel is 24+ inches. I did nothing but clean the wood. I have never ... morehad to adjust the tilt. So the fact that the distal end of the front screw adjuster is missing, has not caused any problems for me. My wife is able to spin on this wheel, as shown in the video. Keep two things in mind for spinning on this wheel: it will not spin like a new modern wheel BUT this wheel has pin& socket contacts on the drive wheel and flyer/bobbin, which makes it as close to a modern wheel as you can get; every wheel new or antique needs to be used for a period of time before optimal yarn is spun. That time will depend on the spinners experience. 1&2. Front and rear views of entire wheel. 3.Bobbin/flyer with gilded maidens.4. View of wheel from back. Crank and drive rod showing.Special Note: the black tape was put on for my wife because she prefers less"slop" in this connection. The buyer can try it with and without the tape which holds the small wooden spacer in place. 5. Signature. 6. Pin/socket connection of drive wheel, with tip of drive rod. 7. Front view of foot pedal. 8. Bobbin with leader showing. 9. Front tension control rod. 10. Rear shot of flyer bobbin, note handle for tightening pin/socket connection. 11. Ornate cut of rear bench. 12. p

1800th Century Great Walking Spinning Wheel
This spinning wheel has been in my family since conception. It is told that in came over on the boat from Wales in the late 1700's and has been with generations of my family since they settled in West Virginia. My grandfather knew it was up in the barn loft since before the Civil War. It is the original condition. It has not been restored. The spools on the wheel appear to be fancier than most. I am sure there are some small parts missing. It comes as is. Please ask any questions before bidding. Only serious bidders. Will meet buyer midway within a 200 mile radius from my home or buyer pays freight costs. RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fvo%7B%3Dd70f%2Bf54%3E-140537ea027-0x101-

Antique Spinning Wheel found in French flea market
This wheel was found in a French flea Market. But I think the country of origin is probably Switzerland. I have not worked on a wheel like this before. And I was impressed by it’s straight forward linear design. The drive wheel crank and the pedal are in the front, along with the flyer orifice. There is an advantage to this design; the drive rod is directly below the wheel crank, so there is no transfer of power laterally to the rear, as in many other types of spinning wheels. It is a single drive wheel. Please note that the orifice is wood. The wheel came with a multi layer felt cradle to hold the orifice end of the flyer, but it had departed this world long, long ago. I added a wooden cradle and covered it with felt, so the orifice tip would ride higher, and be controlled by the tension control wool cord. I am dating this wheel Circa 1800-1860. ... moreIt could be younger or older. If any pros out there know better, I would love to hear from you The Niddy-Noddy came with the wheel, and each complete turning is about 6 inches. As you can see, it is very primitive, but it works just fine. When I work on a wheel. I always do my best to make it spin. This is not always an easy process, and can take several days of trial and error. I often try to improve the function of the wheel. In the case of this wheel, I added brass bushings to the top of the drive rod, the crank, front and back. The felt that had held the flyer had worn completely out, and the flyer tension could not be controlled or adjusted. I want to stress that while I spend a great deal of time working on the spinning function, I never know how well it will spin, even though my wife helps me with this process. There is a reason for this. To know how an antique wheel is going to spin, some hours of practice spinning will be necessary to prove the wheel. It would be very difficult to learn on any antique spinning wheel, as a beginner. My wife is able to spin with little difficulty when trying out new spinning wheels by different makers, but she does not have this

Please see pic. I bought this for a lot more simply because I liked the sleeping beauty and rumplestilskin fairy tales. It's not for spinning but for looks. The wheel does spin, but I can't tell you how to use it, it doesn't have a needle. I need to sell it as my daughter is growing up.
