I have no idea what these were used for. I found a pair of these in an old barn. You can see from the back that thy were bolted to something. Nice replacement finial flag pole topper. Sharp looking and nice paint finish. Its cast metal underneath. The federal looking eagle appears to be standing on a three star helmet holding a bundle of staves. Very nice! It stands 6 3/4 inches tall. Cir. 1908 artichoke cast iron finial from a street light. 6 inches tall. About 4.5 inches wide. 3 inch base. Weighs about 6 lbs. Threaded through the top whole(pictured) where it attached to a rod which kept it in place on the pole. Made by the Union Metal Manufacturing Co. out of Canton, Ohio.The last picture shows how it looked on the assembled light. CAST IRON STREET LAMP FINIAL AND COLLAR The finial stands 16" tall. It has 40F1 stamped on bottom and 40J on side. The bottom has three holes and I believe there is an old bolt rolling around inside. The collar(my term) stands 12" tall. The bottom is open. These may or may not have been attached together on the same street lamp. Sometimes. The finial is on the very top, and the collar could be lower on the pole. Both pieces are untouched as far as finish Believed to have come from a street lamp dating to early 1900's. The photo of the streetlamp is not the exact match. But shown to give an idea of how it may have looked. The pieces are very heavy as they are both cast iron. I am listing as pickup only.
