Up for sale: Beautiful newel post. Measures 55 inches high and 9 inches at widest point. It is 6 inches at the narrowest point. The finial is 6 inches high. A lot of work went into building this one. Salvaged from large house built at the turn of century. Quite sound. Does have some wear from a century of use. P art of it looks to have been panted many deca des ago. One of the nicer newels we have found. Quite majestic. And quite heavy. Shipping quote is for Federal Express. We can also ship for about $49 through Greyhound if you have a terminal nearby. From our experience it takes about a week to get to your terminal. They call you and give you 2 or 3 days to come and pick up. They charge a small fee for storage after that. Item No. 6598 Rare antique NEWEL POST CAP or ARCHITECTURAL FINIAL. Acanthus leaves surrounding an acorn shape, 1/2" diameter bolt is permanently in the base. We are uncertain as to the material, but it appears to be thickly-metal-plated, and may be wood under the plating. It is about 3-1/2" diameter, 3-1/2" tall, plus the 2-7/8" bolt. There are three or four cracks at the base; we do not consider them serious issues. And consider them normal for the age and use of this item. The most serious crack can be seen in photos 2 and 5. Antique Pair 2 of Acorn or Pinecone Brass Bronze Newel Post Cap Finials Germany
This pair is 3 1/2" high. not counting the screw) 2 1/2" across center, 6 3/4" around middle of acorn or pinecone. Screw is 1 1/4" all the way into the cap, about 1" extends beyond edge of cap. Marked Germany on each. They weigh 9.5oz each. Solid brass or bronze, a magnet does not stick, but it does to the screw part. There is some rust on the underside as shown. These would have many uses, great on a newel post, or a broken pediment on a secretary or chest or bed, on the top of bed posts. The possibilities are endless. This is a gorgeous Antique Turquoise/Blue Cut Glass and Brass Newel Post Finial. This Finial came from a southeastern Wisconsin Estate. It measures about 8 1/4 inches tall. Overall. It is in excellent condition(it has just a couple of small bubbles in it) No chips, cracks or repairs to the glass. The brass is very nice with a very nice patina. The finial weighs about 1 3/4 pounds. The finial has a slight list to it. It looks like when it was assembled or glued together, they did not set it in straight. I really think this could be reset in the brass base. Possibly by soaking the piece in gasoline or some other agent to dissolve the glue and then reset. It probably was never used and therefore the almost like new condition. Please see the last 2 pictures that show the slight list or misalignment. Huge diamond facet cut crystal glass antique boule d'escalier newel post finial
Gorgeous antique newel post finial. Solid and extreamly heavy! The base is brass. And I have not seen many finials with such ornate detail on the brass base, so I would consider this quite rare. There is some slight damage to the brass where it looks like it was removed fom the newel post(I'm guessing) there are extreamly minor surface scratches on the crystal- but in remarkable condition over all. This piece is threaded on the inside of the base as well as having screw holes on each side of the base for mounting. Over all hight is between 6.5 and 6.75 inches overall.

One has a repair in the corner looks like it broke off and was reattached otherwise they are undamaged. Original machine threaded solid brass collar/base. Ground glass[not polished] on bottom. Made to be attached to the main newel post at the bottom of the stair hand railing. Impressive 6-1/2" high total& about 5" across at center. 15-3/4" around[circumference] at center. Intricate& beautifully executed design of controlled bubbles. Each inside a diamond shape leading into ribs at bottom. Brass collar is 2-1/2" in diameter. I found this years ago near where I live in Cumberland County, South Jersey; no knowledge of its origins.
