3 Large 15 3/4" Shapely Cast Iron Finial This unusual and large antique cast iron finial was probably used to top off a very large cast iron street light or flag pole. The ball has a 5 1/2" dia. The pointed spear on top of the ball is 8" high and the base has has an inside dia. of 4" x 1 1/4" deep along with two square head set screws to secure it in place. c1879 CAST IRON finial HARTFORD CT CAPITAL building FLOWERs great 4 GARDEN 23"h
cast iron Finial from the Connecticut State Capitol building. A very rare piece of history- removed from the Connecticut state capitol in the late 1970's early 1980's during a major renovation of the 1879 gothic victorian grand building constructed in Bushnell Park(formerly Trinity college property) Prior to the construction of this building- Connecticut had two state capitals: one in New Haven. One in Hartford- after centuries of the state government alternating it's location yearly- a legislative act was passed locating the seat of state government in Hartford(of course the citizens of Hartford sweetened the pot with a $500,000 gift towards the construction of a new building! A site was chosen and paid for by the state- 6 years of construction overruns. And finally in 1879 a brand new $3.2 million dollar building was opened- ... morethe building was one of the top ten architectural wonders of it's period. A century of wear and tear caught up with the building in the 1970's and luckily the leaders of the time thought better than to tear it down- instead they spent close to $20 million to refurbish the building. This cresting- original to the building was made by Taylor& Fenn in East Windsor. CT- and recast in the early 1980's(by the same company! for the replacement iron was put back on the roof! provenance can be provided in a book commissioned by the Old State House association! I was using these finials in landscape garden beds- they have a great look to them. The listing shows all three pieces- your bid is for ONE(1) Winning bidder has choice on which one. Cast iron Finial from the Connecticut State Capitol building. A very rare piece of history- removed from the Connecticut state capitol in the late 1970's early 1980's during a major renovation of the 1879 gothic victorian grand building constructed in Bushnell Park(formerly Trinity college property) Prior to the construction of this building- Connecticut had two state capitals: one in New Haven. One in Hartford- after centuries of the state government alternating it's location yearly- a legislative act was passed locating the seat of state government in Hartford(of course the citizens of Hartford sweetened the pot with a $500,000 gift towards the construction of a new building! A site was chosen and paid for by the state- 6 years of construction overruns. And finally in 1879 a brand new $3.2 million dollar building was opened- ... morethe building was one of the top ten architectural wonders of it's period. A century of wear and tear caught up with the building in the 1970's and luckily the leaders of the time thought better than to tear it down- instead they spent close to $20 million to refurbish the building. This cresting- original to the building was made by Taylor& Fenn in East Windsor. CT- and recast in the early 1980's(by the same company! for the replacement iron was put back on the roof! provenance can be provided in a book commissioned by the Old State House association! I was using these finials in landscape garden beds- they have a great look to them. SELLING THIS PIECE AS IS- ONE BROKEN FLOWER! The finial measures 36" tall x 12" wide x 2 7/8" thick. VERY LARGE RARE SALVAGED ANTIQUE SOLID BRASS FINIAL 4" - ALMOST 1.50 POUNDS !
This is very unusual and rare antique solid brass and very very heavy finial weighing almost 1.50 pounds. It measures almost 4 inches tall and 2 inches wide. The patina is rich and beautiful! We found this in one of MANY boxes of lighting and door knobs etc. in my fathers basement workshop. We live in the center city Philadelphia art museum area where our 3 story federal style homes were built in the 1870s. People were always throwing the original fixtures out in the 1950s and 1960s to MODERNIZE but my father always collected them. NOW they are putting back what the last generation tore out and threw away. I dont really know anything else about this finial. Thanks for looking at my fathers finial. This is a vintage 1940's urn style walnut finial. It measures 6 3/4" high x 3 1/2" in diameter at the bottom and is 5 1/2" in diameter at it's widest point. There is some wear to the finish and at the bottom where it was originally attached to a piece of furniture. It may be easier or better to apply using glue at this point. It is a rather pretty piece with a ball top to a bulbous center with carved leaf design coming off the bottom to the midsection, it has a peg dowel at the base, it has a flat section on the back at the center and at the base, I think the wood is walnut but cannot be certain. Nice piece with a primitive pineapple look.the peg has a diameter of about 3/8" the base is about 2" in diameter excluding the flat area, the flat area on the back is 2 1/2" tall and about 1 3/4" wide, the ball on the top is about 1 1/4" in diameter. Antique Red Mahogany Carved Wood Finial with Flat Back- Furniture Part- No Reserve. It measures 7 3/4 inches tall by 4 3/4 inches wide. The wood has a red mahogany stain but I'm not sure what kind of wood it is. It's in good condition. The back has a large chip near the bottom but the wood is still strong there.

Vintage Metal Lamp Finial Gorgeous design– spear or arrow head like shape with 3 sections around that protrude out. These have a feather like design to them. Rope like pattern near bottom.
