The finial has a 4 3/8" width on the outside(not including set screws) of each of the four pairs of flat sections and it is 8" high. Each of the 4 pairs of flat sections that are across from each other on the inside measure just under 3 7/8" apart and each of the eight flat sections inside are 1 5/8" long from inside corner to inside corner. I would think that these street light pole finial caps are meant to fit over a octagon street light pole that is 3 3/4" on the outside of each of the four pairs of flat sections. Last pole standing on the last tuna cannery in San Diego was topped by this awesome orb 8" in diameter with a threaded copper stem. Which could hold an eagle, wings spread coming in for a perch, they are out there! Looks mighty fine the way it came off the flagpole especially with the great verdigris patina! Beautiful. 8" antique flame or torch architectural, fireplace or fence finial with a hollow 2 1/2" square base. I'm fairly certain that it is made of brass, which would lead one to believe it has to do with a fireplace. As you see it has a beautiful patina and where it is worn on the edges you can see the brass color coming through. This would make a beautiful, unique decorative piece. The weight is 3 1/2 lbs. To me it has an Art Deco style, though it may be much older as it came from a country estate and had been stored away in an old farmhouse for many years. Vintage Heavy Solid Metal 6 5/8" Flag Pole Topper/Finial Spear/Arrow Head
This finial appears to be older; however. I'm not an expert and cannot say for certain how old it may be. I believe that it's a flag pole finial, but I'm also not sure of this; it could be used as a fence post finial I suppose. I'm also not sure what metal it's made of. It has a gold-tone finish that appears to have wear. Please see the pictures for the details of this piece. I can tell you that it measures about 6 5/8 inches long with a diameter of 3/4" at the bottom. There is also a hole near the bottom for securing the finial to the pole. The spear portion is flat versus 3 dimensional. This piece is in decent used and vintage condition with some wear to the finish and perhaps a little bit of wear to the metal. It's fairly heavy for its size.
