It has the original ... moreball finial at the top. There are round bulls eyes on three sides at the top. The shaft is fluted with round embellishments in the center. The corners have reel and bead molding. It is notched for the step and is freestanding. It measures 55.25 inches tall. And 5.75. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good scrubbing but will clean up nicely. There are minor chips here and there and a lot of coats of paint. Big French Green Opaline Glass Newel Post Finial
A lovely old French Opaline Glass Newel Post Finial. The Finial is made from a pale green opaline glass and the fittings are brass. When the light passes through the glass it is translucent and has an attractive paneled design because of the ribs. The Finial is BIG at 7 1/2" high x 3 1/4" in diameter. It has a threaded hole on the bottom which is approximately 5/16" in diameter. It is in very good overall condition with no chips or cracks in the glass. The only thing to note is a small gap on the bottom of the glass where it meets the brass, it is very secure so it is probably in the making. The brass has 2 dents where someone used a tool to remove it from it's newel post, see photos. The finial looks great as a decorative accessory and would be perfect in a Victorian decor. Presented for your consideration is this exceptional nineteenth century glass newel post finial. The clear glass is overlaid with white in the style of some of the fine French glasshouses or perhaps Boston& Sandwich-any help appreciated. The ovoid glass finial is mounted on a brass fitting. It measures 8 1/8" high overall and about 3 1/2" across at the widest point. The brass base measures 2" across. This piece is in very good estate condition with no damage. Wear or restoration found. Huge diamond facet cut crystal glass antique boule d'escalier newel post finial
Gorgeous antique newel post finial. Solid and extreamly heavy! The base is brass. And I have not seen many finials with such ornate detail on the brass base, so I would consider this quite rare. There is some slight damage to the brass where it looks like it was removed fom the newel post(I'm guessing) there are extreamly minor surface scratches on the crystal- but in remarkable condition over all. This piece is threaded on the inside of the base as well as having screw holes on each side of the base for mounting. Over all hight is between 6.5 and 6.75 inches overall.

Magnificent antique Victorian hand blown glass controlled bubble newel post finial. Truly one of a kind! Wonderful depth of color in a medium turquoise blue. Original machine threaded solid brass collar/base. Ground glass[not polished] on bottom. Made to be attached to the main newel post at the bottom of the stair hand railing. Impressive 6-1/2" high total& about 5" across at center. 15-3/4" around[circumference] at center. Intricate& beautifully executed design of controlled bubbles. Each inside a diamond shape leading into ribs at bottom. Brass collar is 2-1/2" in diameter. I found this years ago near where I live in Cumberland County, South Jersey; no knowledge of its origins. Wonderful condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. Unique reminder of some of the glorious Victorian designs of the late 1800's& ... moreearly 20th century. No Reserve.
