I am not ... moresure of the age but they appear to be quite old. I believe that they are cast iron. They are thick and heavy. About 3 pounds each. The finials are painted black and stand approximately 5" tall. The bases measure 3" x 3 1/4" at the widest point with the interior dimensions being somewhat smaller. There are screw holes at either end of the shorter sides to secure the finials to the top of a post. It looks as if there are screw remnants in these holes and they would probably need to be drilled out if you plan on using them as intended. 3 of the bases have breaks(see pics) There is some wear and flaking to the black paint( you can see other paint colors in some areas) and also some rust here and there. Overall great set with lots of character. Very nice for outdoor use or indoor display. Please be sure to super-size photos to better view details and accurately judge condition. I am not sure if this is a finial or not but that is all I can deduct it must be- it is a bird/ stork/ heron with a screw bottom and made of cast iron I think it stands 3" tall and at its widest point is 2 3/4" the paint has some minor wear to it but over all it is very nice and great details.

HUGE cast iron Finial from the Connecticut State Capitol building. A very rare piece of history- removed from the Connecticut state capitol in the late 1970's early 1980's during a major renovation of the 1879 gothic victorian grand building constructed in Bushnell Park(formerly Trinity college property) Prior to the construction of this building- Connecticut had two state capitals: one in New Haven. One in Hartford- after centuries of the state government alternating it's location yearly- a legislative act was passed locating the seat of state government in Hartford(of course the citizens of Hartford sweetened the pot with a $500,000 gift towards the construction of a new building! A site was chosen and paid for by the state- 6 years of construction overruns. And finally in 1879 a brand new $3.2 million dollar building was opened- ... morethe building was one of the top ten architectural wonders of it's period. A century of wear and tear caught up with the building in the 1970's and luckily the leaders of the time thought better than to tear it down- instead they spent close to $20 million to refurbish the building. This cresting- original to the building was made by Taylor& Fenn in East Windsor. CT- and recast in the early 1980's(by the same company! for the replacement iron was put back on the roof! provenance can be provided in a book commissioned by the Old State House association! These finials were rebuilt as the fragile nature of the iron made them easy to break or crack. A professional welder rebulit three pieces. Cast iron Finial from the Connecticut State Capitol building. A very rare piece of history- removed from the Connecticut state capitol in the late 1970's early 1980's during a major renovation of the 1879 gothic victorian grand building constructed in Bushnell Park(formerly Trinity college property) Prior to the construction of this building- Connecticut had two state capitals: one in New Haven. One in Hartford- after centuries of the state government alternating it's location yearly- a legislative act was passed locating the seat of state government in Hartford(of course the citizens of Hartford sweetened the pot with a $500,000 gift towards the construction of a new building! A site was chosen and paid for by the state- 6 years of construction overruns. And finally in 1879 a brand new $3.2 million dollar building was opened- ... morethe building was one of the top ten architectural wonders of it's period. A century of wear and tear caught up with the building in the 1970's and luckily the leaders of the time thought better than to tear it down- instead they spent close to $20 million to refurbish the building. This cresting- original to the building was made by Taylor& Fenn in East Windsor. CT- and recast in the early 1980's(by the same company! for the replacement iron was put back on the roof! provenance can be provided in a book commissioned by the Old State House association! Up for auction is a large-sized old cast iron fence finial shaped like a Fleur de Lis. This heavy old piece measures 7.5 inches high. Has a maximum width of 4.75 inches and the base measures 1.5 inches across. Inner square opening is 1-1/ 5" of an inch x 1-1/ 5" of an inch. Condition is great; there is random light rust. But no ob vious damage. It is pewter-tone. I don't know how old it is. I've owned it for approximately 12 yea rs. Having purchased it from an antique shop. GORGEOUS Antique Street Light Ornate Finial Nouveau Green Paint Cast Iron
This is an antique cast iron lid or top. Probably meant for a large outside lantern or a vintage street light. It measures 6.75” in diameter and is 7” from the top of the finial to the bottom lip of the cover. The rod is 20” long and has a threaded end as I show. With a hex head bolt on the other end. There is also a hex head bolt on the underside of the finial and I am guessing once it is removed, the threaded rod inserts into this area. The green rod has raised lines marked off at 1” intervals along the length. This piece would be fabulous on its own simply as a tabletop decorative element, repurposed as a large paperweight, or used as a one of a kind cache pot lid. It has the original old green paint with some rust showing through and overall wear, and is designed with gorgeous art deco/ art nouveau lines and all sorts of raised scrollwork ... moredesigns on the top. Offered is a very nice example of a vintage brass Golden American eagle flag finial! This one has clearly been well taken care of- it is in mint condition. Still very shiny! There is tremendous detail throughout this piece from the feathers and talons. As you can see from the photographs, the finish is unbelievably shiny and we were unable to locate any areas where the finish was chipped or faded. There was no corrosion observed on this piece.
