It has the original ... moreball finial at the top. There are round bulls eyes on three sides at the top. The shaft is fluted with round embellishments in the center. The corners have reel and bead molding. It is notched for the step and is freestanding. It measures 55.25 inches tall. And 5.75. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good scrubbing but will clean up nicely. There are minor chips here and there and a lot of coats of paint. Up for sale: Beautiful newel post. Measures 55 inches high and 9 inches at widest point. It is 6 inches at the narrowest point. The finial is 6 inches high. A lot of work went into building this one. Salvaged from large house built at the turn of century. Quite sound. Does have some wear from a century of use. P art of it looks to have been panted many deca des ago. One of the nicer newels we have found. Quite majestic. And quite heavy. Shipping quote is for Federal Express. We can also ship for about $49 through Greyhound if you have a terminal nearby. From our experience it takes about a week to get to your terminal. They call you and give you 2 or 3 days to come and pick up. They charge a small fee for storage after that. Hi there. This is a Vintage Architectural Salvage Cast Aluminum Finial Top that measures 17" tall x 15" wide corner to corner. This piece has no damages and is very solid. It is constructed of a very thick aluminum and has black paint that shows a natural patina. It appears it may have been hinged on one side as there are 2 molded brackets with cotter keys in them and a small hole on the opposite side. 1896 Architectural Salvage ZINC Victorian Roof Top Finial turret Cap Corbal
Very interesting piece of Victorian architectural salvage. Circa 1896. I have a photograph that shows this piece as it once was, on the top corner of a building on a Main Street in Michigan. The piece was on top of the building in the corner. Originally there was two of these on the building. The brick building was once in Armada Michigan, on their main street. Years ago, about 40, the building caught on fire, and a friend of mine got this piece in the wreckage. The piece was not damaged by the fire. No signs of smoke or odor. My friend has had the piece in storage all this time. The piece would make a great wall hanging. It is a one of a kind piece, in all my years of buying salvage, this is my only roof piece. They were purchased in Iowa in the early 70's and have been used as decor pieces since(by themselves on a bookshelf or as bookends) They have their original paint and are in wonderful condition given their age. Cannonball(style) looks like an ancient Maritime- shipyard rope bollard or heavy duty column gate fence finial. Iron or concrete Newel topper. Something you'd also see on quay, ship or dock. It is semi-hollow with a neck and base having 4 prongs suggesting embedding in concrete. Don't know. Height 7" Width 4.5" Weight 4 Lbs. Weathered a long time with absolutely gorgeous patina and the elements of time only enhance its genuine character. It is clean and has no flakiness or grit.
