UP FOR AUCTION IS A VERY RARE AND UNIQUE PIECE OF RELIGIOUS HISTORY. A BRASS WRAPPED WOODEN FINIAL CROSS OFF A CHURCH THAT IS BEING REMODELED IN A SMALL TOWN IN IOWA. THIS CAME OFF THE BELL TOWER WHICH WAS BUILT IN 1904, 8 YEARS AFTER THE CHURCH WAS BUILT. IT'S A WOODN CROSS WRAPPED IN, I BELIEVE, BRASS SHEETING. IT'S BEEN LEADED TOGETHER AT THE SEAMS AND HAS SMALL BASS NAILS TACKING IT AT THE BASE. IT IS 3 1/2 FEET FROM THE TOP TO THE BOTTOM OF THE BRAS WITH ANOTHER 6 INCHES OF WOOD. THERE IS ABOUT 8 INCHES OF SEAM THAT HAS COME LOOSE AT THE BOTTOM AND ANOTHER ABOUT AN INCH LONG ON THE CROSS PIECE. THE WOOD AT THE BOTTOM IS ROTTED WHERE IT WENT INTO THE ROOF BUT THE CROSS SEEMS TO BE IN VERY GOOD CONDITION ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING IT'S AGE AND EXSPOSURE TO THE ELEMENTS. This massive old cast iron finial is in very nice condition for its age. It's about 18" long. And at its widest the base is about 4 1/2" The inside diameter of the hole is 2" The iron is uneven at the bottom of the finial, as shown in the pictures. This is for 2 vintage cast brass ball finials. They come in an old cardboard box so they may have been replacements or just parts for projects at the time. They are 3 inches in outside diameter and about 3 ¾ inches high. They were cast in brass and the turned and finished to a high polish. They have a threaded insert that is 1/4 inch threaded. Antique Architectural Brass Bronze Bird Flag Lamp Finial Quail
Up for sale is an antique flag or lamp finial recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia. PA area. It is found in good to very good used condition. It is either bronze or brass and appears to be a quail in flight. There are two small mount holes, one in the right wing, the other in the tail. It is not signed. This finial measures approximately 4" x 3" x 4" in size. It has nice patina on the back while the belly shows more of the original finish. This is a very uncommon form, very nice and quite unusual. This is a set of 3 Decorative Finials. They are white/ cream and are very distressed. I bought them at an antique fair a couple of years ago. I do not know what they are made of. They look like wood but are too light to be wood. They would be great in a cottage setting or on a mantle. The largest one is approximately 20 inches tall and the two smaller ones are approximately 13 inches tall. One of the smaller ones is not totally flat on the bottom. That is how I bought it.
