This piece is from Korea and is about 20 or so years old. The exterior design was handcrafted by a Korean artisan who cut each piece of mother of pearl and abalone shell to create the likeness of a peacock surrounded by a blooming bouquet of flowers and butterflies. Please note that the color of the mother of pearl changes depending on the light source- when under natural light. It has a silvery iridescent glow and under interior lighting(incandescent bulb) it has an amber glow. The entire piece is made out of wood painted with a black lacquer finish. The interior is wood also(unpainted) I believe pine, but I'm not exactly sure(it's definitely NOT particle board, though) and it features 2 separate sections(left& right) each with different smaller compartments inside, the details of which are described below. There are 2 sliding doors to access the right and left side and it does have a lock, but I no longer have the key. The size of the entire armoire is 7ft(L) x 6.25ft(H) x 2.25ft(D) approx. It disassembles into 6 major pieces(if I'm not mistaken) top section. 2 sliding doors, bottom section, left section and right section. The top section holds the entire piece together. Nor do I know if it works.but looks very classy with all the Victorian Fancy Hardware. When opened. It reveals 3 drawers ~ 1 larger bottom one and 2 smaller side ones. It also has an open space to the right of the smaller drawers. The HANDLES on the 3 drawers are ORNATE with UNUSUAL DROP BAIL PULLS! ONE pull is MISSING. An incredible accomplishment. The foundry work executed in this piece is above reproach- each gilt bronze mount is hand chased to the highest quality, mercury gilded and of outstanding detail. An angular and commanding work, the Armoire is surmounted by a triangular crest that is removable from the body with two dowels on either side- this is flanked by a pair of carved mahogany(replaced) finials. Beneath the projecting crown molding, an incredible gilt bronze mount of an angel riding through ocean waves in a cornucopia pulled along by swans while leaving behind a trail of shells is simply stunning. Flanking this on either side are opposing gilt bronze solider masks. The top is removable. Lifting off of large steel screws inside of the armoire to allow the door to be lifted from it's hinges for easier transportation. On either side of the door, pedestaled on large tapered columns rest large and highly impressive patinated and gilt bronze Classical female heads with bowed ribbon holding her hair back. These are the largest mounts of flawless execution we've seen on a piece from this period, each a stunning work of art in it's own merit. A hand filed steel screw secures each head to the case. Beneath the column, intense gilded Lion Paw's in the Regency manner complete the form. The arched door swings open with use of the original key. Revealing a golden oak interior of four shelves and a single locking drawer. This drawer is hand dovetailed with solid oak secondary woods, when removed revealing an illegible signature in period script along the dust board. You will see a few age marks here and there, and a few flecks of veneer off along the bottom of the door. In the last picture you will see the door is open to the piece and the left hand side is seperated, this is because a tightening bolt is missing. An antique Arts& Crafts style solid oak Hall Wardrobe of American origin. We are pleased to present this antique Hall Wardrobe for your consideration. It is made of solid Oak wood. And is of American origin with an Arts& Crafts or Mission style look. Unusual for an American piece, it has a mechanism for disassembly to simplify the task of moving it from one place to another. A single door is found on the front, and hooks(not original to the piece) are found on the back, near the top, for hanging garments. Limited depth on the inside is not sufficient for a hanger to fit front-to-back. So this piece is better suited for use as a Hall Wardrobe, rather than a full armoire. Other possibilities, with the addition of shelves, would be use as a Bookcase, Spice Cabinet, or Kitchen Pantry. Stunning Antique French mirror wardrobe/armoire from the Belle Epoque Era
This has been in our spare room for several years and we absolutely love it- it is truly beautiful. Sadly we need to part with it to make way for a new member of the household. The top piece comes off above the mirrored door. And both drawers and shelves come off/out to make moving/transport easier. It is very sturdy, not a light piece. The paintwork is distressed and it was bought like this 11 years ago, and only the knobs and handles have been changed as they were in poor shape or not existent and 1 shelf added. It measures 252 cm high at middle point 124 cm wide. 46 cm deep plus the top piece sticks out another 25 cm as you can see from photo 2, but is removable. Beautiful Mahogany Wardrobe circa 1910 Width = 65" including upper cornice = 75" Total Height 83 1/2" Depth = 21 1/2" including upper cornice = 24 1/2" Triple fronted with a central compactum behind a mirrored door. There are 4 pull out shelf drawers and two cabin drawers below with pull handles. Brass fittings adorn every part. Hooks. Drawer pulls, rails and handles. The ornate front handles twist to pull back the catch and open doors. The hanging rails pull forward on their mechanism to allow full view of hanging garments and stowed back into the cupboard. Ingenious and well made. Pretty inlaid details and quarter laid mahogany grain. This has been finely done. The colouring is very rich without being too dark and it is not an overbearing piece. It was originally designed to adorn a wonderful old manor or stately farmhouse and may have had to come through several rooms to be placed. It also means that the wardrobe is easy to transport and manageable to carry. The wardrobe is in good antique condition. There are minor knocks/scratches to the woodwork. As you would expect for an original item of this age. I have noticed the following. There is a fine crack in the wood panel behind the mirror. It is secure for use. But needs mention. There is a small piece of trim missing on the very bottom of the 1" width between mid-section and right section. Also a small corner on the top of same section. The brass on the rail is loose at left side. There are two small spots of white paint on the far left side panel. All of the above mentioned are minor. Overall an amazing piece. antique solid wood Bavarian wardrobe
This is a solid wood antique wardrobe from Bavaria. Called a"Bauernschrank" furniture the farmers used to have. Unfortunately due to lack of space it had to kept in a shed for the last 10 years or more, and therefore is in great need of TLC. The wardrobe probably dates from around 1870s, and the wood is maybe spruce. It used to my childhood wardrobe, however it needs to be sold, as we cannot keep in the house due to its dimensions and I would like it to go into good hands- preferably somebody who knows about restoring antique furniture. Its dimensions are D 54cm. W 121cm and H 179 cm.

A testament to the craftsmen who made it. Has four shelves which can be removed if required. If you wish to add a hanger rail for longer garments. Would look stunning in a victorian or cottage home. Or in a chic shop as part of a display- very versatile indeed with the removable shelves. This item measures 39 inches wide by 19 inches deep by 69 inches high. 1850's Antique armoire wardrobe chifferobe square peg square nail construction
wickedcrazymom Store Antique mid 1800's Wardrobe~Chifferobe~Armoire. It is a beautifully constructed and very sturdy piece. This came from an old farmhouse in Alabama. I refinished the piece about 30 years ago. Since it is pine. I decided to try to stay in the same color family that would have been common when the piece was built. I used as an entertainment center and. Years ago, I modified the piece to allow for the back of a pre-flat screen TV to stick out the back of the piece. I know, I should have waited for flat screens to come out. Anyway, I built a shelving unit which can be removed~it simply sits inside the wardrobe. At the top of the inside of the unit, I attached some pine shelving via some angled metal brackets, which can also be easily removed. The boards that would have originally been on the top were missing when I found ... morethe piece. I used some old reclaimed wood to replace them. This is a great piece- look at the detail in some of the pictures. The builder used wooden pegs and square nails to attach the wooden pieces. The trees that were used to build this piece must have been large in diameter, the door panels are 14" wide, and the back of the piece has boards that are 11-14" in width. This piece has great presence in a room, and makes either a nice entertainment center, or could be modified to be used once again as a wardrobe. It is very big and heavy. So local pickup only. A very large French Empire wardrobe or armoire circa 1850-1870. Past down by decent in the same French Canadian family and then through marriage to Norwegian American relatives in the 1920's. Made from beautifully grained mahogany veneer over pine secondary wood and always kept indoors. There is absolutely no fading of the rich wood colors. It is approximately 87 inches high. 24 inches deep, and 61 inches wide, and is in excellent overall condition. Only minor veneer chips as expected from age and use. I will give it a dusting and a coat of paste wax and it will be ready to enjoy for another 100 years. It is easily disassembled for transport thanks to the original wood keys which attach the sides to the base and the tapered wedges which lock the top to the sides. This stunning piece was made somewhere in continental Europe. We think France. It is about 130 years old dating back to around 1880. It is in very good condition for its age. This is a beautiful Louis XIV Walnut French armoire. It stands tall and proud and is an impressive piece with rich texture to the wood finish. The motif looks like an eye at the top and an eye on the bottom- quite unusual! The armoire is 24" deep. 54" 4'5" wide, 91" 7'7" tall. We are unsure of the weight but estimate at around 175lbs.
