Very Ornate with Scrolling Leaf ... moreDesigns and Turning Swirls. Both with 5 candle holding arms. Very attractive pair of early Wall Sconces or Candelabras. No markings found. One sconce still has the gold gilt leaf on the wall mount and on the scalloped candle arms holder. The other one is still showing mostly silver paint which has been on for a long time and has the Gold Gilt Leaf showing through the silver paint. No damage or repairs on either one. I believe they could be solid bronze but can't guarantee it. There are two top candle drip pieces that screw off and were stripped years ago showing the old solid bronze metal(Pic. 5- 8) It also shows through in different areas on both sconces. All 10 top 2 piece drip plates unscrew off for easy cleaning. These were bought out of an old Hotel which was being torn down. The two Candelabras were mounted on the sides of an old Marble Top Fire Place Mantel. They are complete and ready for mounting. One has the two original wall mounting brackets and the other one has only the one(Pic. 11& 12) These will be beautiful if refinished. They are also beautiful in the condition they are presently in. Entirely up to the buyer. This is a very useful set and would look lovely in a restored Victorian Home. Please see all pictures and ask any questions. Be sure to use close up. I am not an expert on Guilted Bronze Items but these appear to me as Bronze but I can't guarantee it. So, be sure to ask me any questions before bidding. At first I thought they were cast iron but now I am not sure. With the two top pieces stripped and definitely being either brass or bronze and seeing a brassy/bronze metal look under the layers of old patina and paint. They could be bronze. It will date to the late 1800s, it came to me through a house clearance here in the South of France, as you can see in my photo's, this chandelier is for candles, as it was originally, in approx the 1920s/1930s it was wired for electricity, but this wiring was so old and distressed. It literally d i solved in my hands. So it has been removed and put back to its original state, I still have some of the old bulb holders and faux candles from the 1920s. Made of wood, please see last photo, I am happy to include these for you in this sale; I am sure it could be easily and inexpensively changed back to be lit by electricity if required. The condition is good commensurate with it's age. The maximum drop is approx 29" or 74cms. This can easily be lengthened if need be by adding chain, the maximum diameter is 19.75" or 50cms. The fixture features six electrified candle arms and central light with frosted glass flame shade, and is in the style of the designs of Pierre Gouthiere(1740-1806) the bronzier famous for his commission from the court of King Louis XVI. The Mottheau firm was a leading designer and producer of bronze for prestigious cabinet makers in Paris. We are pleased to offer this EXCEPTIONAL AND RARE DESIGN. Antique(c1940s) French wall sconce lamps. This grand pair mimic climbing rose bushes which are attached to center poles/stakes. The vines/branches and leaves are gilded iron tole with ivory/white porcelain roses in full bloom. Each sconce features 7 porcelain roses. The sconces are quite grand in size and measure 29" tall. They have ornate wall plates of gilded bronze or brass with a flower petal design surrounded with a beaded pattern. Long arms extend the sconces out from the wall for an even grander effect. The sconces operate with one regular sized, 60 watt bulb(not the small candelabra type bulbs) Each sconce retains their original harp and finial. The finials are also porcelain roses. The pair of a gilded brass or bronze with exquisite and detailed patterns in the French, Louis XVI manner. They have a large, round center back plate with deep relief, neoclassical pattern. There is a ribbon detail at the top and a large, corded tassel detail at the bottom. Each has two lighted arms with flower pattern. Each arm houses 5 leaded, cut bead and spear crystals. Each arms utilizes one 40 watt bulb. In the center of the lighted arms is a smaller appendage that houses one bead and spear crystal. Each sconce contains 11 bead and spear crystals. This gorgeous petite gilt chandelier features 4 lights with a gilt leaf finish. Verdigris wheat stalks and 8 white rose’s. It has been rewired and is in perfect working condition. It measures 18” long. By 17” wide. It was rewired at some time in the past and has no ceiling plate as it has 14 feet of new cord and chain that were added to accommodate the room it was displayed in. So it can be placed anywhere in a room on a ceiling hook and plugged into a wall socket. The chain features a thumb flip switch on the chain for turning off and on. The cord could be shortened and a ceiling cap added and it could easily be hard wired into a ceiling outlet ... moreif buyer prefers. The chandelier has 4 tall and two short wheat stalks. It appears that it should have had 2 more small wheat stalks to balance the decoration. However there is no visual indication that there were 4 to begin with. DESCRIPTION: A nice antique pair of two Bronze wall sconce lamps(see photos) This sconces are heavy and are made of a gilded Bronze with the original leaded stained art glass lamp shades(see photos) The sconces are in good condition with some wear to the gilding and wear from age and handling. The lamp shades are in good condition. But one ... morehas some loose welds on the leaded panels(see photos) Each sconce with shade attached measures about 10 and 1/2 inches high, 7 and 1/2 inches from the back edge of the sconce to the front edge of the glass shade and 5+ inches wide at the top of the shade. Antique French Style Gilt Bronze Or Brass Wall Sconce Candelabra Lamps
Up for sale is this fabulous pair of antique wall sconces. While they are done in a French style. They are of American manufacture. They are signed in multiple places on the back, I believe it is Lion Electric Manufacturing Co. with a 1924 patent date. These have not been tested for function, and have old cloth wiring, so you would likely want to rewire. The faux candles probably should be replaced as well. They do show a fair amount of finish wear, so you will have to decide if you want to keep them in original, yet imperfect finish, or touch up/refinish. They measure about 10 3/8" across, 12 1/2" tall to top of the candle, 6 3/8" deep.
