Markel Slip Shade Wall Sconce. Art Deco era and mainly these were made in the 30s. The glass is in excelle nt condition and could not find any flea bites. Obviously chips or cracks. This glass is very special and made with uranium in it, so when under b lack light it glows. Rare to find this glass still and especially in this condition. The frame is of a cast metal and heavier metal at that. It has been cleaned and r estored to a medium gold. And oil rubbed to enhance the details of the frame. The brass turn switch has been replaced with a new one and the socket and wiring also. The bulb it would take is a standard size bulb that w ith a regular base. The wattage of 60 or less is recomm ended. Especially for the presentation of the color of the shade. The stronger wattage the less color of the glass. Wow what an amazing piece of art deco. This is believed to be an early 1930's Markel chandelier. While the pictures do not do it justice this piece is very unique in its design and colored accents. This piece is in incredible shape and has been in storage for over 40 years. It measures approximatley 15" on the diagonal from point to light on the main 3 light piece. It is adjustable in height via the chain.

The large chandelier shade(a whopping 17-1/2-inches wide) has beautifully rendered clusters of wheat! Yes. Wheat! I love it! ... moreThe same motif is matched on the sconces! Zounds! Another wonderful aspect of the chandelier is how totally original it is(see second image) Except for the new cloth wiring and sockets. Everything you see(including the glass finial, chain, and canopy) was there when the fixture left the factory! A HISTORICAL ANOMALY As you can see in the original Markel catalog image(see second image) The sconces listed here(see last three images) do not precisely match those in the catalog. They also have a Globe sticker(not Markel) Yes, this is very curious, indeed! The shades are clearly the same but the brass back-plate is different. My assumption is that Globe either sold their design to the much larger Markel Company(or Markel simply stole the design) which then redesigned the back-plate. Or, who knows what happened? Nonetheless, the sconces are unquestionably a match to the chandelier although the shade on the chandelier is shiny while the sconce shades are frosted. ABOUT THE 1940s: Just after WW II. I have two or a pair of antique wall or ceiling light fixtures made by Markel Electric Product Inc. with marking patent date 3-29-27. They are made of cast iron. Double(two) bulb with finial hanging in center. Some wear, but original paint looks to be a light beige color on the base with light green leaves and pink/peach accent flowers. Needs some cleaning and touch up.I have not cleaned them. Original wiring, sockets and hardware seems to all be here, with the exception that one fixture is missing the nut that goes on the bolt to hold finial, which can easily be replaced for a cents on the dollar. Antique Art Deco 5 slip shade Markel Chandelier
The chandelier and all 5- ribbed) slip shades are original. This beautiful piece of antiquity was manufactured by the Markel Electric Company sometime in the 1920-1930’s. The semi-flush mount chandelier has a classic Art Deco ziggurat. Skyscraper and foliates embellishments, as well as, striking light honey colored shell detailed slipper shades. I was advised by experts not to recondition the chandelier. Doing so would only devalue it. The piece has a beautiful aged patina. There are so small paint chips on the chandelier. This is a old ceiling light made by Markel Electric as marked on the back with the date 08/29/27. I think it might of had a chain pull in the middle but wasn't with the light. Its a yellow color with pretty blue flowers. Of course it would need new wiring. It measures 11 1/4 across and the widest point is 5 1/2. Any questions please ask and thank you for looking.

antique 1930's Markel 6 light Slip Shade chandelier
Up for your consideration is a 1935 6 light slip shade chandelier this has 5 outside shades and 1 center shade. There are alot of 5 shade lights out there. But not many 6 light. I have redone this light just like the pros do it. i started with bead blasting the entire cage down to bare metal. Then it was sealed and primed, coated with a matching pewter paint and hand applied gold accents. then was cleared with a matt finish coat. the new 3 way switch turns on all the lights. Just the 5 or just the center. it has been rewired with cloth wire and works and looks great. the shades are as good as i can find any where. There are only a few small chips and flea bite on them, none visible when assembled, i have kept the original sockets to keep the look the light had in the day. They have been inspected and are in perfect working condition. only ... moreitem i must mention is a crack in 1 small part of the decorative arm. This arm does not in any way affect the structure, the main arm is fine( see pic) the chandelier measures 18 inches across and is 16 3/4 high it hangs about 29 inches from the ceiling.

Markel 30s Slip Shade Glass Antique Chandelier Flush Art Deco Ceiling Fixture A
Nice large five light Markel glass slip shade flush mount ceiling chandelier from the 1930s. Restored and has a beautiful copper finish with a satin sealer. The fixture, all parts and the sockets have been cleaned restored and rewired. Everything works well and looks beautiful. The glass shades slip firm and snug in the slots of the mixed metal frame which is on the heavy side along with the ceiling canopy. The glass is in very good condition without cracks, and minor chipping around the fitters, with a flea bite on the side of one of the shades not noticable but for description purposes. For the age they are great. This is such a great fixture for low ceilings and so much light can be produced from this chandelier with the five medium base sockets. This three-light chandelier begins with a canopy ornamented with palmettes and stylized foliate details and comes down in a chain to an oversized finial composed of abstract plant forms and curling volutes; a motif repeated throughout the body of the fixture and its dangling bottom finial. The chandelier's amber slipper shades feature raised floral details and a scalloped border. Vintage antique nifty art deco Markel 5 light slip shade chandlier in original great condition. The 5 shades that are on the chandlier are good with no cracks. Just minor flea bites on the parts that fit into the fixture. There are a couple of very minor chips on the parts that fit onto the fixture also but are covered up when put on.As you can see by the picture one is pink tint and has some missing color on the shade. Please scroll over pictures to see complete details as they show everything better than I can explain. There are 2 extra shades which each have a crack in them and one is a pink tint. Large Antique Art Nouveau Polychrome Markel 5 Arm Light Chandelier To Restore
I hope someone out there can bring this back to life. This came out of an old house that was built in 1909. It measures about 20" in diameter. It is about 19" from where the finial on the bottom goes to the top where the chain begins. It looks to have the original ceiling cap. It is marked MARKEL on the inside AND ALSO marked MARKEL on the porcelain light sockets. Also. one of the"hooks" that the socket holder dangles on is broken. I still have that little piece. It may need replaced. The wiring will definitely need replaced. It looks like it is aluminum underneath all the paint. Maybe you can see this in the pictures. Please look at pictures.
