Mirrored wall sconces, Reproduction, AJ Coppersmith
This is for a pair of mirrored wall sconces which were handcrafted by JP Coppersmith in Massachusetts. They have been in our bathroom for about 15 years and have held amazingly well. They have a slight bit of rust around the crimped edges of the piecrust-like holder(see photo) and along the top edges. However, it all adds to the patina and overall antique look. They work perfectly and all hardware to hang them is included. I am not exactly too sure what type of metal this is.it is either pewter or tin? I am in the process of finding out. Antique Brass Mirrored Wall Sconces for Candles - early 1900's
Handsome pair of antique candle sconces with rectangular beveled mirrors and 2 candle holders for each sconce. Top of each depicts oval shield with a lion on each side and scrolling throughout is ornate. There are extra disks for the candle holders for catching wax and the reflecting candle light is really pretty when the candles are lit. These sconces hung in my aunt's home for years and as a little girl. Admiring the candle light, I was told they were antiques from Europe. Since I'm now 70 yrs old I'm guessing these were from the early 1900's. As happens with old mirrors, there are a few dark spots and an area along the right side and corner where the mirror has begun to loose its silvering. I've tried to show these in the photos. Each sconce is about 17"long and about 7 1/2" wide. The candle holders arc out ... moreabout 5 1/2" Since they will require some serious packing and they each weigh about 4 lbs. shipping will be a bit steep. If you need more information. An American original from the intermediate period, 1766- 1800. Scones suggestive of Pennsylvania workmanship. Originally used real candles and converted to electric. They can be wired into a electrical wall box that is controlled by a wall switch or an extension cord with an in-line switch& plug could be used. They could also be converted back to a candle. They are 10 1/4" tall x 5 1/2" wide x 3 1/2" deep. One 6 watt bulb is included. The scones weigh almost 2 pounds each. Insurance for shipping is an extra if desired.
