Lovely Set of 7 RARE White Ironstone Butter Pats Johnson Brothers England c1883
This auction is for a Lovely and Hard to Find Grouping of 7 Antique White Ironstone Butter Pats made by Johnson Brothers of England. They are neatly designed in a square shape with a ribbed pattern. The set is in very good shape. Especially for its age, which dates to the late 1800s. There are no chips or cracks in any of the pieces. They have under glaze crazing, which is expected in ironstone of this era, and two have minor discoloration marks. One has what appears to be a sand particle trapped under the glaze. They each measure about 2 3/4 inches across. They all have the Johnson Brothers England Royal Coat of Arms black backstamp. Which was used by the company from 1883 to 1913. The bucolic vignette shows the whimsical building at water's edge. Framed within the branches of an apple tree bearing flowers and fruit. These butter pats measures just under 2 3/4" square. This is an auction for 2 absolutely beautiful LIMOGE china/porcelain butter patties that are super! These little darlings are white in color with the prettiest gold roses painted on the fronts with lots of detail work on each. The edges are scalloped. And they measure about 3& 1/4" in diameter, and I find no chips nor cracks. As to their age, I am unsure, but they appear to be vintage at least and perhaps antique. They came from the same estate sale of a little older lady who had fine things before she passed. There are only two and I am assuming the letters GDA might stand for the pattern, although once again, I am not sure. All my items come from estate, tag or garage sales as well as thrift stores, so therefore, nothing is brand new, unless I indicate as such.
