The piece is back-stamped"Rustic Trademark WH Grindley& Co England" with a globe and steamboat. The stamp was used from 1891 until 1914 when it in changed to incorporate the Royal Coat of Arms. The pat measures 3 1/8" in diameter and weighs 1.5 oz. The piece has a very small chip on the rim and very fine crazing notable under inspection. There are no marks from use. Despite the small chip. It is in good condition and will make a fantastic addition Blue Flow or Butter Pat collection or for use at the table or for tea. Butter Pats were an essential piece of high society tableware during the mid-late Victorian Era. The pat usually held a tablespoon of whipped butter in a rosette shape or stamped with the house seal. Pats began to decline in popularity after the turn of the century. Today they are still used at some hotels and restaurants. They are also commonly used as tea bag rests. W.H. Three Old Green Transfer Butter Pats
I ran across these butter pats at an estate sale. These three are the same pattern. But they vary in condition from excellent to good. Two have gold gilding around the edge. None have any chips, but the one is crazed and has an age crack on the bottom. All three measure 3.25" in diameter. Please see my other auctions for the other butter pats pictured. Lovely Antique Set 8+1 Ironstone BUTTER PATS, Christmas Green Transferware
Description 8+1 BUTTER PATS Lovely set of eight matching ironstone porcelain butter pats. Each measuring 3-1/4" wide. Featuring a softly scalloped border with embossed pattern, design is a dainty trailing floral and leaf in green with a fine gold border. Unmarked, several are incised"H" uncertain of the pattern name, but guessing by Johnson Brothers or similar. I'm including an additional pat that is the same color, but does not quite match. Condition on all is great- no chips. Cracks, hairlines or damage to the eight other than usage marks, a bit of difference in the green shade(some are a tad lighter) and clear crazing to the glaze- the additional pat has just a faint amount of tanning in the bowl- does not detract. SIX Vintage Butter Pats or Individual Salts Weimar Germany White/Green/Daisies

The white dishes have two-tone green trim design with daisies; bordered by two thin bands of shiny gold trim. Each dish is signed on the back Weimar GERMANY. I did not see any damage on two of the dishes— the remaining four dishes have either a small hairline crack visible(on one piece in the center) and/or a tiny chip on the back edge of the plate rim. Lot of 5 Antique Victorian and Edwardian butter pats- Lot 2 I am selling off some of antique butter pats that were purchased at antique shows and stores in Massachusetts 50 years ago. I would date three of these from 1870s– 1920s. The blue Longfellow Inn and green pats are not as old but for sure are 40+ years old. All are a little under or over 3” round. Descriptions(s1-2 = top row. L to R) 3 = center) s 4-5 = bottom row, L to R) 1. green transferware pat with rose pattern. The bottom is marked: Arabia Made in Finland 2 with a tiny crown. There are two rough scuff marks on the scalloped edges and there is a rough area in the glaze which was there when created. 2. unmarked thicker white pat with a black transfer design. Seems like the kind of piece used in hotels. No chips– very nice. 3. Mr. pat– white with blue trim and a gold MR. on the ... moretop. Some light crazing– there are some blue lines on the bottom but no other mark. No chips or cracks. 4. blue and gold scalloped floral pat– when I was little this was my favorite but it does have a tiny chip on the top edge and one underneath that looks like it was repaired. There is a gilded edge. It is marked 36 in blue. There is a gold mark of some kind and an embossed P in the center. No crazing. 5. blue transfer ware pat depicting the Longellow& Wayside Inn. S. Sudbury Mass. It is marked: Old English Staffordshire Ware Made in Staffordshire England by Alfred Meakin imported for Rawding Distributing of Winchester. Mass. In the circle it says: John Roth England. No chips, cracks or crazing. Please make sure to check the photos for condition as described above. Sweet set of butter pats in green transferware. Differing patterns, but blending well together. All say New Wharf Pottery on the bottom, but differing marks. One says Staffordshire as well.
