This auction is for a Lovely and Hard to Find Grouping of 7 Antique White Ironstone Butter Pats made by Johnson Brothers of England. They are neatly designed in a square shape with a ribbed pattern. The set is in very good shape. Especially for its age, which dates to the late 1800s. There are no chips or cracks in any of the pieces. They have under glaze crazing, which is expected in ironstone of this era, and two have minor discoloration marks. One has what appears to be a sand particle trapped under the glaze. They each measure about 2 3/4 inches across. They all have the Johnson Brothers England Royal Coat of Arms black backstamp. Which was used by the company from 1883 to 1913. They are white with a dark blue edge which has tiny pink roses and white daisies. These pats measure just over 3 inches across and raise to about 3/8 of an inch at the sides. Both pats are marked Maddock England and several other marks which are imprinted in the porcelain(see pictures 4 and 7) These pats are older and were probably used. They show gold wear on the outer edge. One shows some aging in color on the back. But there are no chips, cracks, crazing or flea bites. Each pat has a tiny pin prick size brown dot on the surface and some light use marks(mostly seen when held at an angle) ... moreI did not use any cleaners on these pats, I prefer to leave that to someone with more expertise. It has a diameter of 3" and is in nice condition. The rim has an embossed design, the floral pattern is done with light yellow and green.The pat on the upper right is C.R.Field Haviland Limoges, it has pink daisy's around the rim. Five of them are in really nice condition with only a little bit of crazing. Then there are two of them that are not quite as nice. The one has a couple of discolored spots which you see this more from the back then the front. Then the other one does have a Lot of crazing and is has discolored. You may be able to bleach this out but I did not try. This one also has a little chip on the back too. I was going to just toss it out but then thought someone may need it to complete their set. This is a beautiful set of six flow blue butter pat plates. They measure about 3-3/8" in diameter and are all in very good to excellent. Gently used condition, no chips, cracks or repairs. The deep cobalt blue pats have a pretty floral center and decorative border. I do not know the name of the pattern.
