5 Antique Old Butter Pat Dishes Plates White Double Blue Ring Blue Bird Lot #1
Unknown Maker The closest bird I could find out of the hundreds I looked at over the internet was Knowles. Taylor, Knowles. It is not the same but pretty close match. So should blend in with one of their blue bird sets or several other makers sets. They would make nice display peices also. The dish itself has 12 edges and is not round but has 2 round blue painted rings. There were several dish shapes that were similar but I could not narrow this dish down to one of them. I am not sure of the age but I belive these to be old. Blue birds were very popular between the 1880's and late 1920's. I have no idea if these date from then. But the previous owner said she had had them from at least the 70's when she was in the height of her collecting/hoarding. Some more than others with what I think is"BSM" in a square. I could not find anything on this mark. Lot of 5 Antique Victorian and Edwardian butter pats- Lot 2 I am selling off some of antique butter pats that were purchased at antique shows and stores in Massachusetts 50 years ago. I would date three of these from 1870s– 1920s. The blue Longfellow Inn and green pats are not as old but for sure are 40+ years old. All are a little under or over 3” round. Descriptions(s1-2 = top row. L to R) 3 = center) s 4-5 = bottom row, L to R) 1. green transferware pat with rose pattern. The bottom is marked: Arabia Made in Finland 2 with a tiny crown. There are two rough scuff marks on the scalloped edges and there is a rough area in the glaze which was there when created. 2. unmarked thicker white pat with a black transfer design. Seems like the kind of piece used in hotels. No chips– very nice. 3. Mr. pat– white with blue trim and a gold MR. on the ... moretop. Some light crazing– there are some blue lines on the bottom but no other mark. No chips or cracks. 4. blue and gold scalloped floral pat– when I was little this was my favorite but it does have a tiny chip on the top edge and one underneath that looks like it was repaired. There is a gilded edge. It is marked 36 in blue. There is a gold mark of some kind and an embossed P in the center. No crazing. 5. blue transfer ware pat depicting the Longellow& Wayside Inn. S. But are from a set I have that includes a gravy boat with the identifying number and backstamp. I didn't find any chips or cracks in any of the pats. But they all have some degree of crazing. Only one has discoloration associated with the crazing, but it is light and not of much consequence. Minimal, if any, wear to the gold trim. Each measures just a little more than 3" in diameter.
