Adams 3 in 1 Sports Lantern
This Adams Sports lantern came from an estate sale. Could be used as light. Heat or cook stove. My research has turned up very little information. I believe it was manufactured by Goss Gas under the Adams name. It appears in good condition with a few chips. Scratches, some staining and light rust. It is missing the valve for attaching the propane bottle. The backside of globe is clouded from heat otherwise it is clean, clear and free of chips or cracks. NY Reverse Die: 1077 Single Card Merchant(SCM) Town Rating: T-1+/ Rarity Rating R-4 R-4 means that it is estimated that 200 to 500 specimens of this type have survived. HISTORY OF STORE CARDS During the early stages of the Civil War. The Union was not faring well and they needed to finance the cost of the war by borrowing money. Uncertainty of the outcome of the war combined with the fact that the currency was not backed by silver or gold led to a lack of confidence in US currency and a subsequent hoarding of gold, silver, and even copper coins. This shortage of coinage made ... moretrade very difficult. In the fall of 1862. The first of these token that were designed to be used for currency appeared in Cincinnati. Similar tokens soon appeared in other states. It is estimated that there were between 7,000 and 8,000 varieties of these coins totaling over 25 million tokens. They filled the needs of trades-people and made trade possible in the absence of adequate amounts of small denomination coinage. The private tokens were typically traded with a value of"one cent" and often included patriotic symbols and messages on one side and merchant advertising on the other side. The tokens were given to customers in change to facilitate trade in the absence of coins. They were. However not issued by the government as currency and therefore there was no guarantee that the merchant would honor them when submitted to pay for items in the future. In 1864. Congress passed legislation that forbade any private individuals from issuing any form of money. They also issued large additional amounts of coins to insure that trade could be conducted wiht ease. Stick Spatter Bullseye Plate by Wm Adams 1891+
Up for Auction is this nice Wm Adams& Co 19th Century stick spatter plate with the Bullseye pattern. Research indicates the potter's stamp including the word'England' occurred 1891+. Four colours were used- black. Red, green, blue. The outer border is a series of sponged black miniature bullseyes. The inside of the plate has hand-painted flowers. There is a paint rub on one of the green leaves from before the plate was fired, the edge is a bit stained and rough, the plate has light glaze crazing. Plates are 12 sided rims with 5 cartouches of same Temple and Palm Tree scene. Central pattern depicts a woman with parasol and man on a platform overlooking a river. A large Palm(coconut) is off center with a Temple. On the right is an architectural fountain amongst trees. A smaller island Temple is in the background. Plate#1 is in very good condition. With only minimal utensil marks and some gold loss flaking due to pesky plate hangers. Does not deter from the beauty. The plate has an impressed 1 over 10. Plate#2 is also in very good condition. Antique Adams Staffordshire Plate "Andulusia" Pattern Staple Repair Transferware
Up for sale is an antique Adams"Andalusia" red transferware plate recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia. PA area. It is found in good used condition. It has three wonderful staple repairs in the back, best seen in photos#4-5. Early repairs were done in this manner and are quite collectible as a result. This plate measures approximately 9 1/4" in diameter. The only other condition issue to discuss is some minor roughness along the edge and two minor chips.
