Small covered butter dish, ... moreand a canister with lid that could be used for cookies, candy, teabags or the like. Four items in this set(8 if you count the lids as separate items) two are stamped on the base and the other two are not but they are clearly all the same pattern and maker. We cannot read the stamp very well but it does say Hand Made Poland. The pattern is blue floral on a white ground- the shades of blue are from very deep to a lighter shade that is really pretty. All items in this set are in excellent used condition- bases on all items show light scuffing as you would expect from age and use. Dimensions: the creamer is about 6 inches tall at the top of the lid and just under 6 inches across from handle to end of the spout; the sugar bowl is about 5-1/2 inches tall and almost 7 inches across at the handles; the butter dish is about 2-1/2 inches tall and 7 inches long and 4-1/2 inches wide; and the canister is 4-1/2 inches tall and 7-12 by 4-1/2 inches in a soft rectangular shape. There is a nice glaze on this set- no chips, cracks or crazing that we have round. Very clean inside and out. It's really a beautiful grouping that could be used individually or as a set. These date from the very early 1900's. I am not sure what exactly they were used for however each measures 5 1/2" in length and 4" across. I think they were meant to be side dishes on a dinner service as there are six of them. Olives? Relish? The sides curve upwards slightly as if to hold in sauce or liquid. Each plate has a pattern of tiny blue and pink forget me not flowers. The rims are scalloped and trimmed in gold. There are no chips or cracks on any of the six. There are also no bottom marks. This is a beautiful set of 6 hand painted porcelain open salts/salt cellars. They have scalloped edges and unusual raised dots around the inside edge. They are hand painted with a violets and gold motif. They measure 2 3/4" x 1 3/4" They are unmarked so I am unsure of their origin. They could be from Japan or possibly France. The owner's mother had purchased them at an Antique Show back in 1970 so I would guess that they predate 1940. They are in very good condition. No chips or cracks. There is some slight rubbing of the gold on some edges and some brown marks on the unglazed bottoms. LIMOGES WILLIAM GUERIN 8 Porcelain Hand Painted Bowls Flowers 1920s 1930s
This exquisite set of 8 hand painted LIMOGES small bowls was made at the William Guerin& Co. Limoges porcelain works in Limoges. France. They feature various delicate center designs of floral bouquets- please see all the photographs. They were owned by Hollywood movie star MADGE EVANS and her husband. Pulitzer Prize winning playwright SIDNEY KINSLEY. The bowls measure approximately 5 1/2" in diameter and 1 1/4" high. They are all in superb undamaged condition. Except for just one bowl which has a tiny flea bite just under the rim which I have tried to show in one of the photographs. The LIMOGES mark on the bottom of each bowl was used between 1891 and 1932. And so. this set over 80 years old! The WILLIAM GUERIN& CO mark on the bottom of each bowl is applied over the glaze. According to the WickedLocal.com site, William Guerin ... moreproduced lot of"white ware, or pieces that had no decoration. They were exported mainly to the U.S. where amateur china painters and professional decorating companies bought them to add their own hand-painted designs. Some pieces, like those in my auction, have a William Guerin mark that was added over the glaze when the decorating had been done inside the porcelain works by in-house artists. c. 1880-1900 hand painted porcelain easel-shaped butter pat depicting a fashionable young lad sporting a large hat. Condition is very good with the following points to mention. There are no cracks or hairlines. But there is a tiny flat flake at approximately 7:00 o'clock. The flake is so shallow and smooth that it actually looks more like the loss of a tiny spot of paint and doesn't feel rough to the touch. At one time. There was gold outlining the rim and on the background surrounding the portrait, but this is mostly gone. The remaining gold almost has a sponged-on effect that is not at all unpleasant to my eye. There is virtually no paint loss to the portrait itself, and only minimal surface scratches, but these are so tiny and few that possibly this dish was used as a trinket tray rather than a butter pat which would have come ... moreinto contact with butter knives.
